Q:Does this work with G4 bulbs?
by|Jul 30, 2017

Answer This Question

A:  In order to find the best bulbs for these products, Lutron would recommend checking out their bulb compatibility tool which can be found here, Lutron.com/ledfinder.

by|May 4, 2023

    A:  Yes.

    by|May 6, 2023

A:  Yes, the device is a true switch. However, if you use the dimmer version, you could have dimming problems with it and the small electrical load of G4 lamps, especially LEDs.

      by|Aug 7, 2019

A:  Lutron has a specific dimmer to bulb compatibility chart on their site. Straying is fraught with flicker and other issues.

      by|Jul 31, 2017

A:  As long as it is before the transformer (if in use) and doesn't exceed the wattage no problem. This is not a dimmer though, just a 15a 120V switch.

Q:I live in a house built before the 1980s, so our wiring is either 60C rated or not rated. Does that mean I have to rewire to use these switches?

        Answer This Question

A:  Technically and by code, yes. But if you are only using LED lighting, the risk is small and your wireless switch or dimmer will work fine. However, a little rewiring is probably a good idea if you're connecting a heavy electrical load like a big fan or heating device.

        by|Aug 7, 2019

A:  Yes, this is the rating of all switches Caseta or others. even if you use 90 deg C wire the circuits are only rated at 75 deg. C per NEC. You can use 90 deg or 75 deg.

        by|May 5, 2023

A:  Wire like THHN is rated for 90 deg C. All switches and connectors, lugs etc... have only been rated at 75 deg. There fore on a circuit the weekest link of the chian are the connectors. Because of this the NEC requires all rating values are 75 deg even if you use 90 deg wire. To answer our question, Yes you can use your wiring. The Rating actually is for the wire size. 90 deg wire can have a higher amp rating but because of the 75 deg requirment you'll have to derate the amp rating to a 75 deg wire rating.

Q:Where is the list of compatible LED for this switch? The Lutron website doesn't acknowledge this as a dimmer and says it's not a valid model #, so therefore I can not find out which LEDs are compatible.

          Answer This Question

A:  it should work with all led, cfl, etc as long as you don't exceed the amperage. if you amperage is low there is a LUT-MLC Load Adapter supplied that can be installed to make it work.

          by|May 4, 2023

A:  Compatibility is only an issue with the dimmer switches.

          by|May 6, 2023

A:  A list of compatible CFL and LED bulbs is only applicable to the Lutron dimmer switches.

            by|May 5, 2023

A:  It's not a dimmer just a switch should be compatible with all bulb types.

              by|May 5, 2023

A:  The compatibility problems for LED lights come from dimming the lights. Since this product is just an on/off switch it has the ability to handle up to 6 amps of any lighting load.

Q:Does Lutron make a Caseta single pole switch that can be used to run a 15 AMP / 115 Volts pool pump? If not, does Lutron make a dumb timer switch that can we used to control when the pump turns on/off?

                  Answer This Question

A:  The switch is only rated for 6 amps, so if your pump actually pulls 15A ... then no. Also remember a pump will pull even more than it's rated running amperage when it's first powered on which is hard on even a normal 15A mechanical switch.

                  by|Jan 8, 2019

A:  Not currently. You could use this switch to operate a relay / contactor, with the contactor rated for the load of your pool pump.

                    by|May 4, 2023

A:  Currently, Caseta does not have a 15 amp switch. Lutron does have other options to control this application but in order to give you a proper recommendation, I would recommend reaching out to Lutron's 24/7 tech support at 1-844-588-7661 where a representative would be happy to assist you.

                    by|May 4, 2023

A:  no. what you would need to do for higher amperage loads is have this switch turn on and off a contactor. The contact would handle the high amperage load switching, this switch would only have to handle load to close the contactor coil.

Also this product can function in a three way setup but must be paired with either a standard mechanical switch at the other location or a wireless pico remote.

A:  It will work with leds. And for the 3 way, in the directions they will show you how to get rid of the existing 3 way to make this a regular single pole, and then you add remotes to it to make it a 3 way, 4 way or so on. You need to purchase an adapter to put the remotes into regular wall plates so they look like normal switches. Usually the adapter is about 10 dollars. I believe called a “caseta wall plate adapter”
