Q:not sure if I flipped a wire somewhere, but when I have the lights on and I turn the fan, the lights turn off. It still shows the lights have power and they will occasionally flash. Any ideas?

    Answer This Question

A:  You need to wires coming from the fan to the switch and a hot lead coming in from the house wiring. Connect the hot lead from the switch to the hot lead from the house wiring. The light lead from the switch to the light lead from the fan and the fan lead from the switch to the fan lead from the fan. There is also a ground coming from the switch and it will go to the green or bare wire in the house wiring. I don't remember is the switch also has a neutral wire. If it does, it will go to the neutral (white) wires in the house wiring. As long as the wires are connected to the correct leads, it should work with each button working separately. Some switches similar to this that need a neutral will tell you to connect the switch's neutral to ground if there's not a neutral available in the switch box. While this will work, I won't recommend it. It may or may not be allowed in your area.

A:  Hello Ellie, thank you for your question. Yes, the MACL-LFQH is rated for controlling dimmable LED lighting up to 75W or incandescent/halogen lighting up to 250W, as well as speed control for a ceiling fan. So long as you remain within the wattage requirements, the lighting load does not have to be connected to the fan itself. See the below spec sheet for more information: https://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/3691057.pdf We hope this helps! If you require further assistance, feel free to contact our 24/7 support team at 1-844-LUTRON1 or by email at support@lutron.com.

Q:Can this be used with exhaust fan and lights in the bathroom?

A:  Tried it here and it did NOT work on a bathroom exhaust fan

              by|Jan 12, 2023

A:  Probably, but I wouldn't recommend it for that. Usually an exhaust fan runs at only 1 speed. Also, I'd recommend a timer switch for the exhaust fan so that you can turn it on to extract the steam from a shower, but shut off a while later without you having to turn it off.

A:  We used it with a bedroom fan. Works Great!! The manufacturer states "1.5A ceiling paddle fan". I would say it would work if the fan max current is below 1.5A.

                  by|Oct 10, 2022

A:  The MACL-LFQ is designed to control a standard 3-speed ceiling fan which only uses pull-chains to adjust its speeds. An exhaust fan in a bathroom is typically considered fully variable and would be incompatible with this control. A:  Sounds like you need a remote kit if you don't have the conductors needed for these switches. You're correct that a 3 wire is needed to independently control fan and light.

A:  The description states: "Dimmer works with up to 75-Watt of dimmable LED’s or CFLs or up to 250-Watt of incandescent or halogen, fan control works with up to 1.5 Amp ceiling paddle fan" ------- So, you are limited to amperage ratings listed, regardless of the wire size being used to power the items.

A:  We designed our Maestro control to be able to provide the most reliable signal to the fan and lights and that's why each load needs it's own wire. A:  Older version was a 2-wire line carrier type with a companion receiver in the canopy. The newer models are a 3-wire control with no receiver.

A:  The MACL-LFQ is rated for 75W of compatible LEDs. This fan/light control is not designed for use with smart LEDs. Lutron recommends reviewing the LED Compatibility Tool at the following link for compatible LEDs with this control: https://www.lutron.com/en-US/Pages/LEDCompatibilityTool/Compatibility.aspx.

A:  The MACL-LFQ is a stand-alone light dimmer and fan control. This device does not have RF capabilities to pair with another sensor nor can it be used in line with a Maestro Wall Sensor. We're here to help! A:  Hi, Kevin. Currently, there's no industry standard or regulation for manufacturing LEDs, which is why performance varies with dimming controls. That's why we extensively test a variety of LEDs from many different manufacturers, and offer a mobile-friendly web tool to help you select bulbs that provide the best dimming performance with your Lutron dimmers. To access the tool, please visit lutron.com/ledfinder. We recommend putting the exact model number of the LED recessed lamps in question into the tool, or choosing the Maestro Fan Control and LED+ Dimmer model number MACL-LFQ to find a list of compatible lamps with the control. If you have additional questions, please reach out to our Support Team at support@lutron.com or give us a call at 1-844-LUTRON1.

A:  The dimmer in the light switch portion will work with LED lights. The question is, are the LED lights your speaking of dimmable? If the answer to that is also yes, then yes, the switch will work.

A:  it senses load, so if the load isn't there. The LED's on the switch won't illuminate. Or you will get a flashing on the switch. I pulled all my LED lights out of my fan, and the switch flashed and shut off entirely. Probably this is the occurrence you see?

A:  The MACL-LFQ will need to be connected to both a lighting load and fan load in order to function properly. It is common to see voltage passing across the outputs when no load is attached.

A:  The MACL-LFQ is designed to control a standard 3-speed ceiling fan which only utilizes pull-chains to adjust its speeds. A fan that includes its own remote or wall control typically uses a proprietary control technology and would likely be incompatible with a third-party fan speed control. As always, Lutron would suggest reaching out to your fan manufacturer to verify if this control would be compatible with their fan.

A:  When using this switch, you leave your fan on high using the built-in switch and use this one to control the fan speed. It doesn't interact with the switch in the fan. My 3-speed fans accept the 4 speeds without any problems; however, if you do have a problem, just don't use that speed setting. Most likely, if there's a problem, it will be with the lowest setting.
