      Q:what is the outer diameter?

      Answer This Question

A:  PVC fittings like this are sort of a commodity item and the outside diameter is going to vary a bit between manufacturers and manufacturing runs. The inside diameter is tightly controlled and standardized but the OD could be as small as 2-3/16 or as large as 2-3/8. But the hubs on nominal 2" fittings will always have (within a range of tolerance) an inside diameter of 2" and 2" pipe will similarly have an outside diameter of 2" or a smidge less so that it will always fit snugly in a 2" hub fitting.

A:  our store has a "self-cut" station. I cut my own there

          by|May 27, 2020

A:  Not a timely answer, I know, but remember that when you are cutting out of 10 ft lengths, you have to account for the width of the saw cut. You are probably not going to get exact 72" and 48" lengths if you ask them to cut for you. Indeed, I would not expect HD or any other lumber yard to give me exact lengths of anything. I'd be OK with asking them to cut something to rough length so it would fit in my car, but I would plan on cutting everything to final length at home. I've noticed that several HD stores now carry "project sized" pieces of pipe, plywood, etc. for people who need a piece smaller than the typical factory length, and maybe don't have a vehicle that can haul a 4x8 sheet of plywood or a 10' length of pipe, or who don't have any place to store the leftover "scrap".

            Q:how do i get a 4inch coupling on a 4 inch drainpipe?

            Answer This Question

A:  I think this coupling is not to be used with PVC sewer/drain pipe, which is about 4.215" outside diameter. It instead is probably for schedule 40 PVC pipe, which is about 4.5" outside diameter. But the description does not seem to clearly say that, so I am not sure.
