A:  Elwin, there will be a trivial length added to the coupled 4" x 10' pipe to another 4" x 10' pipe - that is 10' + 10' = 20' + probably less than an inch. Not going to get you to 40' !!! Add a couple more couplers and a couple more 10' pipes to get to your desired 40' (maybe you misstated your question ?).

A:  A coupling will accomplish the results you are looking for, yes. A 4” coupling can be glued on to a 4” pipe (DWV in this case) to make one continuous pipe, in effect. However try as I might I cannot make two 10 foot pipes connect together to make a 40 foot section. If they are butted end to end they make a 20 foot section, and the coupling itself isn’t long enough to make up the additional 40 feet.
