A: Thank you for your inquiry on the NIBCO 1-1/2 in. x 1-1/4 in. PVC DWV Hub x Slip-Joint Trap Adapter. No, you should not try to glue or solvent weld two different materials together. You should find an adaptor or possibly use a Fernco coupling that clamps on the outside of the piping. We recommend consulting a plumber to find out what meets your local code. If you have additional questions, you can reach a NIBCO Technical Services Advisor, M-F 8am - 5pm EST, by phone at (888) 446-4226.

Q:Do you need to apply PVC primer/cement to the male end, or does the compression from the nut do the trick?

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for your inquiry on the NIBCO 1-1/2 in. x 1-1/4 in. PVC DWV Hub x SJ Trap Adapter. There is no “male” end on this fitting since it is a solvent cement hub or socket by a slip joint opening with a nut. Assuming you mean the slip joint end when you are saying male end, then no, it is meant to be removable for maintenance as “slip joint” means the mating tubing slips into the waterway of the fitting. No solvent cement should every be applied to a “slip” joint side of a fitting. A: Thank you for your inquiry on the NIBCO 1-1/2 in. PVC DWV Hub x SJ Trap Adapter. The 4801-7 1 1/2 is 1 1/2 in. hub by 1 1/2 in. Slip joint and will not fit 2 in. PVC. You could use a 4801-7 2 in. Hub x SJ and glue a 4801-2-F 2 x 1 1/2 in. into the hub end of the 4801-7 2 in. With these two fittings you can make a 1 1/2 in. hub x 2 in. slip joint trap adapter. Refer to Internet SKU# 100344161 and 100345144 to order. If you have additional questions, you can reach a NIBCO Technical Services Advisor, M-F 8am - 5pm EST, by phone at (888) 446-4226.

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for your inquiry on the NIBCO 1-1/2 in. x 1-1/4 in. PVC DWV Hub x SJ Trap Adapter. The trap adaptor below is Hub x Slip Joint. The Hub end would be solvent glue to the pipe and the slip joint end goes over the pipe and seals using compression from tightening the nut. There is not a rubber O-ring in this assembly. If you have additional questions, you can reach a NIBCO Technical Services Advisor, M-F 8am - 6pm EST, by phone at (888) 446-4226.

A: Thank you for your inquiry on the 1-1/2 in. PVC DWV Hub x SJ Trap Adapter Tee. Teflon tape may be used, but the fittings should be dry fit together first to see if it’s even needed. If the threads don’t leak without the Teflon tape, there is no need to add it. If you need further assistance, you can reach a NIBCO Technical Services Advisor, M-F 8am - 6pm EST, by phone at (888) 446-4226. Thank you!
