Q:As many of the low ratings mention the container bursting and the caulk too thick to apply or the product aged in the container beyond usefulness, where is the expiration date by which Home Depot should remove the product and NOT sell it?

Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. OSI QUAD MAX has a shelf life of 24 months from the date of manufacture (unopened). Lot code information can be found on the container to determine the date of manufacture and is interpreted as follows: YYDDD; YY = last two digits of the year of manufacture; DDD = day of manufacture based on 365 days in a year. You can always call our helpline for assistance.

Q:Does this require a special caulk gun ?

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. OSI QUAD MAX Sealant is one of our best sealants. It is a high solid content product therefore it will have a higher viscosity than most sealants and typically requires a better-quality caulking gun with a high hand thrust ratio. The product does have a 24-month shelf life so it is possible you purchased a product close to expiration. If this is the situation it would be very difficult to extrude. Date codes are printed on the tube. Also, it is important that the tube opening be cut big enough and the foil seal is broken before reattaching the nozzle. The nozzle opening should be at least ¼ inch or larger. Hope this helps you.

Q:I used this in clear to seal a joint. I ran out of clear and it was not available so I had to buy gray. Even tho it's the same product, the gray is a totally different consistency & left some gaps & pinholes. Can I put clear over top of the gray now?

        Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. Assuming you are referring to the same product, the clear and colored sealants are slightly different. OSI QUAD MAX Clear is compatible with OSI QUAD MAX Grey and/or White. If you are not using the same product, please reach out to our helpline at 1-800-624-7767 and ask to talk with an Application Engineer.

A:  Thank you for the question. OSI would not recommend using OSI QUAD MAX Sealant for the intended use in a shower environment. You should consider a product designed especially for bath and shower applications.

Q:Can this be used as a sealant for a sill plate that has a foam gasket on the concrete? I plan on using a Dow sill seal foam gasket and putting the sealant between the foam gasket and the concrete pad. Thank you.

              Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. First, the DOW Sill Seal Foam Gasket is made of polyethylene therefore OSI QUAD MAX would be compatible, meaning it will not harm the foam gasket, but it will also not bond to polyethylene. Also, keep in mind, because the sealant will not bond to polyethylene it may not stop potential water intrusion but instead only minimize it. Using OSI QUAD MAX as an air seal to stop air movement is suitable and acceptable, if that is the intended use.

              by|Apr 14, 2022

A:  Do you intend to use it as a sort of glue? I’m not certain how well it will stick to the foam. It may work fine. But, for added weather protection, I would put a line on the outer edge of the sill, connecting it to the concrete pad. Follow the directions and do not smooth out this very sticky sealant and wait the full 2 weeks for curing.

A:  Thank you for the question. OSI QUAD MAX Window, Door & Siding Sealant is a perimeter sealant designed to be used in exterior applications around windows and doors, between the siding or trim, and the window frame but can be used for interior as well. However, it may not be well suited for the intended use described.

                    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. Using OSI QUAD MAX to fill drill holes or nails holes is not recommended by the manufacturer. This is not to say you can’t, but your end results may not be to your liking. Typically, this requires a special putty designed for fiber cement board. There are several fiber cement siding repair kits available on the market, but OSI does not offer one.

A:  Thank you for the question. A:  I would seek out a window repair person for that job before doing it myself. But, since you asked, first, clean the area really well and only do this when the temperature is above 60F. Then find the closest color match and only cut a small hole to apply the caulk. The directions say not to touch the caulk for 2 weeks and not to press it in to make a clean looking. Important! Do not touch it because it is the most sticky caulk in existence. This is why it lasts so long.

A:  Thank you for the question Wade. The OSI QUAD MAX Window, Door & Siding Sealant is not designed for use in traffic bearing applications such as on driveways and sidewalks. This is not to say you cannot try understanding this is a maintenance situation.
