Q:how do i heat and melt the solder with this kit

        Answer This Question

A:  First use sandpaper or Emory cloth to clean the joints you will be soldering then apply the Flux to birth surfaces. Join the 2 pieces and using a propane or MAPP gas torch heat the joint, not the solder, evenly. Once the metal is hot touch the solder to the joint and let the metal melt the solder. The solder will actually pulled inside the joint by the heat and it will bond the 2 pieces of metal together. Once the solder is applied remove the heat from the metal and let it cool for several seconds without moving it. It takes a little practice but it's not too hard to get the hang of it. Good luck.

                  by|Jun 6, 2021

A:  No, that’s not the kind of pipe you solder. You need pipe dope, as they are threaded connections. Disassemble the pipes, re-dope them, and tighten with a pipe wrench.

                      Answer This Question

A:  It does not work on stainless steel. Oatey does not manufacture products for this application.

                      by|Mar 25, 2021

A:  The kit has two parts: Flux Paste and Solder Wire. Solder Wire can be used on stainless steel, but flux paste is not. You need stainless steel solder flux, which HD does not carry.

                        Answer This Question

A:  Flux is used to keep CLEAN materials CLEAN while soldering / brazing. Haven't tried it, but I don't see why it be a problem. Acid flux helps to clean surfaces while soldering- with all of the associated cleanup and fumes! Use caution with acid flux. This flux is water based and has a very low fume level.

A:  No. We don't offer any products for stainless steel. This is normally a brazing process.
