This soldering kit worked very well. I used it to install a backflow preventer for my irrigation system. I cleaned the pipes with sandpaper and a fitting brush before soldering. The flux worked well and the solder flowed easily. All of my joints were leak free on the first try. There was plenty of solder and flux so this soldering kit is a very good value.

This Oatey is advertised as a water soluble paste flux with safe flow silver lead free solder. I rarely have the need for any plumbing jobs. I do however do a lot of electrical soldering and don't always rely solely on wire nuts to hold a connection. This product provides easy coating of flux paste with a small brush. It stays in place for quick heating and soldering. It can then be capped with a wire nut for protection. This is a handy add-on to ant soldering kit. Also included is an abrasive sheet to prepare any surface for a smooth job. It has become a part of my soldering kit wherever I go.

Initial viewing:
The solder kit contains 1.7 oz. of water soluble paste flux, ¼ lb. of lead free solder, a flux brush and sanding screen. It is small compact and just the right size for a DIY weekend job, like, a new outdoor faucet, replacing the faucet in the laundry room, and maybe enough to replace the hardware in a bathroom.
Inspection:
The directions on the back of the container are short, concise and thorough. Explaining the use of the kit and work procedure to follow. Miraculously the packaging can be opened with your bare hands. Making it easy to get to work
Initial Testing:
I used the kit to solder some ½ in. copper piping coupling joints together. I also used the kit to attach a valve to ½ inch tubing. As you can see in the attached shots, the sanding screen did a nice job of preparing the parts for soldering. The flux was very pliable and easy to apply. The solder performed in a textbook manner, once the heat was applied, and was drawn cleanly into the joints, see pictures.
Note: I remove the valve stem assembly from the body of the valve to avoid the risk of any damage due to heat.
Over all, the kit gives you everything you need for small plumbing soldering jobs, and the resulting joints will be nice, clean, good quality ones.
Super kit as a whole, this flux with a clean pipe situation worked well like all others But says water soluble so it is good for getting out of the way inside of the pipes. The Solder, I did not notice any difference, I use MAP gas when I sweat pipes together and it did wipe up clean as a shiny silver coin. Out of eight fittings times 2 no leaks on the hot water heater installation on Dads place, new solder with the lead free Dad said it was a must. This worked very well. Worth it, 5 STARS.
This is a nice and handy all in one kit if you don't have a lot of soldering work to do. It's perfect for small jobs like repairs, replacing a section of pipe, etc. It's a good idea to keep one of these handy around the house in case your copper pipes run into a problem and you have to make a quick or emergency repair. When I do a small plumbing repair for someone in my family or a friend I pick up one of these kits, use what I need and leave the rest with them. It comes with a sanding screen, brush for flux, flux and lead free solder.
This solder kit comes with the basics you need to solder copper water pipes. Key to success with this product is proper preparation of the copper pipe. Be sure to thoroughly clean & wire brush the adjoining pieces. Apply a coat of the water based flux to both pieces, assemble and heat with a torch. When the flux starts to bubble, apply the silver solder and allow it to wick into the joint while applying heat. Clean with a damp rag. Avoid movement of the parts while they cool. One kit will do many solder joints.
