Answer This Question

A:  Hello Mark, That depends on where you live in Florida. The THD-PLS48 Water Softener System needs to be protected from freezing weather. If you live where the temperature drops to freezing you would need to build an enclosure for the system. Also keep in mind that it has an electronic head that needs to be protected from the elements. A:  Hello Dianne, Programming can be set to regeneration by amount of water used, time used, or whichever comes first. The default setting that comes with the unit is number of gallons used or 10 days, whichever come first. (# of gallons is calculated from the user programmed hardness). Q:How do I know what the best size softener I should buy?

                    Answer This Question

A:  I used the "Hach 145300 Total Hardness Test Kit" which I bought on Amazon. pretty easy test kit that will give you your water hardness in grains. To determine the appropriate water softener size for your home, multiply the number of people in your home by the gallons of water they use each day (80 gallons per person is the average). Multiply that number by the grains of hardness in your water to figure out how many grains need to be removed each day. Then, shop for a water softener equipped to handle the load. Get a unit with enough capacity to last at least 7 days. So if you get 4 people x 80 gallons x 16 grains = 5,120 grains a day. 5,120 grains x 7 days = 35,840 grains a week. so if you are deciding between a 24,000 grain unit or 48,000 grain unit - go for the bigger one to get you through at least a week.

A:  Which product to purchase all depends on the size of your home and the chemistry of your water. Since you are on a well system, we suggest that you have your water tested prior to purchasing a water filter to ensure you purchase the correct system to address the issues in your water. We offer a 12-Point Rapid Test Kit, Home Depot number 300522896. If you need help with selecting the right system please contact our Retail Support Team at 844-663-3078. A:  Hi Mark, Yes the “restrictor” is necessary to regulate the back flow of the tank. If the restrictor is taken out, the system will not rinse fully and will give you salty tasting water. Thank you, The Pelican Water Customer Satisfaction Team
