Q:Wheel paint does it need to be sanded before adding clear coat
by|Oct 24, 2018
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: Great question! Sanding of Rust-Oleum Automotive High-Performance Wheel Spray Paint is not required prior to applying a clear coat if the coating is newer. If the paint has fully cured, which can take 7-10 days, then a light sanding is recommended to create a surface profile.

Q:What is the maximum exposure temperature for this paint? Can it be applied to tailpipe tips?

Answer This Question
A: Hi Bobby.
The Rust-Oleum High Performance Wheel Steel Spray Paint would not hold up to the potential high temperatures of your tail pipe tips. A better choice would be the Rust-Oleum Automotive 12 oz. High Heat Enamel Flat Black Spray Paint.

A: Hi Bobby, Thank you for reaching out! Our Rust-Oleum Automotive High Performance Wheel Spray may be used on surfaces that will not exceed 200°F. As was already suggested, our Automotive High Head is a better option for this application: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Automotive-12-oz-High-Heat-Enamel-Flat-Aluminum-Spray-6-Pack-248904/204655407 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2
