Answer This Question

A:  Great question, Jennifer! We recommend allowing the Rust-Oleum Home Floor Coating System to dry for at least 72 hours before replacing furniture. When replacing, make sure to avoid dragging the furniture across the surface. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Q:I want to reglaze the tile floor in my bathroom with a clear coat. I don’t want to paint it. Can I apply this product without a base paint coat? Is there another product that will allow a clear glaze without a paint base coat?

    Answer This Question

A:  We appreciate your interest. Rust-Oleum Home Clear Topcoat must be used over the Rust-Oleum Home Base Coat. We do not recommend using the clear on its own, and at this time we do not offer a clear coating for direct use over tile. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

      Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help. Yes, Rust-Oleum HOME Floor Coating can be used to help refinish interior concrete floors that will not be exposed to vehicle traffic. However, this product should not be used to fill in any cracks or damaged and those should be fixed using Rust-Oleum Concrete Patch & Repair before applying the kit. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-24-oz-Concrete-Patch-and-Repair-Kit-301012/206495775 -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

Q:I have a worn knotty pine wood floor that was polyurethaned 25 years ago, worn to the wood in many areas. Do you recommend sanding off the entire polyurethane finish before applying this product?

            Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for reaching out. While we would recommend sanding the surface before applying Rust-Oleum HOME Floor Coating, it is not necessary to remove the entire previous coating. We recommend sanding with 60-80 grit sandpaper to build a surface profile that helps the paint adhere. -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

                Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help, Natalie! The Rust-Oleum Home Floor Topcoat is intended for use over the Rust-Oleum Home Base Coat only. We do not recommend it for use over other paints. Instead, Rust-Oleum Varathane Water-Based Polyurethane for Floors can be used over painted wood floors, provided that the paint on the surface is a floor-grade coating. If the paint on the surface is in poor condition or not floor-grade, then it would need to be removed prior to applying any floor finish to ensure lasting results. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Varathane-1-Gal-Clear-Matte-Water-Based-Interior-Polyurethane-2-Pack-286820/205926960 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

                  Answer This Question

A:  Great question, Meredith! Typically, only one coat of the Rust-Oleum Home Base Coating is needed. If applying over a porous surface, like bare wood, or if using the Pure White Base Coat, then two coats are recommended. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3
