    What is the teeth height?

    Answer This Question

Hi Paul, thank you for your question. The Mending Plate is designed for non-structural applications only; not for truss applications. The prongs (teeth) are about 3/8" long to help secure the plate to the wood. Place a wood block over the mending plate and hammer the wood block to embed the prongs. If you have more questions, please reach out to our Customer Service team at (800)999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you! - Stacy

Can these be used with pressure treated wood?

        Answer This Question

Hello DIYDave, this is Stacy with Simpson Strong-Tie. The MP mending plate comes in a galvanized coating which is a low level of corrosion protection. If these will be used in an interior dry environment then yes it could possibly work depending on what type of pressure treated lumber you have. If it will be used for an exterior environment then i would not recommend it. If you wish to discuss this further please call us at (800) 999-5099. We look forward to speaking with you.

Hi handyhelper, thank you for your message. We want to make sure we address your question regarding the MP Mending Plates. The MP Mending plates are meant for joists in timber framing where you want to make a positive connection between materials, they have not been load tested so I can not give you a specific capacity of the part. Please also keep in mind that the MP Mending Plates are G90 Galvanized which is a low level of corrosion protection and not meant for exterior use. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you. -Stacy

For a temporary hold I would recommend have a new cedar post installed

                    By|Jan 1, 2022

While it’s possible to use these to hold 2 4x4’s together, I wouldn’t recommend based on limited axial support. To support such a load, would recommend bracing with four 2x4’s on each side to support front to back and side to side loads. This method is use to brace power/telephone poles.
