Q:Mine keeps getting grass clogged in the tines and I spend more time trying to remove it with a knife and plyers than tilling. I am tilling short grass but it does have runners. What is the solution. Is there a reverse on the tiller? That would help.

Q:Will it till hard pan California dirt?

A: Dear Mich,
The Sun Joe TJ604E 16-Inch 13.5 AMP electric garden tiller/cultivator is a powerful tool, but its ability to till hard pan California dirt depends on the specific conditions of the soil. Some customers have reported success with the tiller, while others have found it difficult to use on extremely compact soil. It's worth noting that breaking up hard soil may require multiple passes with the tiller and some additional work with a shovel or other tools. Overall, the Sun Joe TJ604E is a well-regarded tiller that should be able to handle many types of soil, but it's important to consider the specific conditions of your garden before making a purchase.
Hope this helps, if you have any other questions please let us know.
Thanks

A: Great for any gardening where the ground is hard and rock. First pass in the ground the machine bucks and a strong person should be using it. The second pass to to amend new soils and compost is easier.
The rocks in Pennsylvania are tough to deal with but the machine makes them come to the top to remove.

A: Always unplug the tiller first then look carefully at the tines. One of them may be bent or jammed with something stopping the tiller from turning! The tiller tines will not turn by hand so you have to visualize how it turns while running. Never run the tiller with any part of your body exposed to the tines!!!!!!!
I unplugged my tiller when it stopped turning. I found it had snapped off a fairly large root and couldn't turn until I got the root out! I then plugged it in and it ran just fine!!

Q:Should the wheels be on the lower, middle or higher adjustment for tilling? I can't find anywhere that tells that. Thanks

Answer This Question
A: Dear Beckis,
The TJ604E features three-position height adjustment for the wheels - high, middle, and low. The optimal position for the wheels during tilling will depend on the type of soil you are working with. For harder soils, it is recommended to set the wheels to the middle or high position to allow for deeper tilling. For softer soils, the lower position may be more appropriate as it will allow the tines to penetrate the soil more easily. It's always a good idea to start with the middle position and adjust accordingly based on your soil conditions. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions please let us know.

A: You can adjust the depth to till shallower. Just pull on the spring adjuster on the bottom to set the depth.
by|Apr 14, 2023
A: No depth adjustment.
Note: Tines are thin and as you go deeper you'll hit more rocks - and the tines break. Parts inventory always seems to have shortages, so buy a spare set ASAP.

A: Yes. There are three different depths which can be select by manual moving the spring loaded axle to the notch of the desired depth.

Q:Will this dig through palm tree roots that have extended away from the palm tree itself? e.g. not the stump area but around and away from the stump. The roots run 4-5 inches below the surface. The soil is the only thing exposed at the moment.

A: For its size, thus us a powerful little digger. You won't know until you try but if they're not too big around you may be in luck. Smaller bush & tree roots were no problem. Expect the tiller to bounce up a bit while continuously digging it deeper and deeper.
