Q:Is the bird a prop or actually part of the bird bath?

A:  A prop, it comes in two pieces, bowl (no bird), and base. Excellent birdbath, had mine 5 years, no complaints at all.

      A:  2 pieces. Position base stand, then simply attach the bowl by aligning the notches, then turning clockwise. I've has mine 5 years now with no complaints at all. It's lightweight, durable, beautiful, and simple. I remove the bowl in the late Fall so there is no freeze-thaw Winter damage to it. Really like this birdbath!
