A:  Hello Janelle, The backer on the rug is intended to help keep it in place while on hardwood flooring. When it comes to keeping a runner in place on carpet I've had great success using rug gripper anti-slip tape as well as Velcro to keep it attached neatly to the stair rise. Be careful if using double sided carpet tapes as they have very strong adhesives which could potentially damage existing carpet. I hope this information is helpful. Cheers, Chris

A:  The edges are not finished, but when you buy this in store, they have matching tape that you fold over the edges. (About $5 for a pack of two, if I remember correctly) The adhesive is very strong and it looks like thread that is woven around like you would see on a real rug. I know that description isn't the most appealing, but I have purchased this twice for my laundry room and entrance halls, and never had a problem with ends. (they will outlast the carpet) I was just checking the price again to buy more lengths to put in front of the couches to protect my carpeting.

A:  The response from Home Depot is not correct and neither is the phone number supplied- that number is for kitchen installation. You cantt hire Home Depot to install this carpet. They only can be hired to do wall to wall on stairs and with specific carpets choices. This is DIY. I bought this carpet. You use a staple gun.
