Q:can varathane clear semi gloss floor coating be thinned for last coat?

            Answer This Question

A:  Hi Ralph, we do not recommend thinning our Varathane Oil-Based Floor Finish Polyurethane. Applying with a lamb's wool applicator pad can allow the finish to be applied more easily in an even, thin layer. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

Q:Can I apply oil based varathane over a floor that has water based on it?

                Answer This Question

A:  Glad to lend a hand, Donna. Rust-Oleum Varathane Oil-based Floor Finish Polyurethane can certainly be applied to a floor with a water-based coating as long as the original coat is fully cured first. We would recommend to lightly sand first to ensure the best adhesion. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

                  Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help! Both versions of Rust-Oleum Varathane Floor Finish Polyurethane can be used on painted wood floors, provided that the paint is a floor-grade coating as well. Please keep in mind, oil-based finishes will have a warm, amber tone to it and the water-based will be crystal clear. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

A:  Great question, Red. You can lightly wet sand between coats before re-coating with Rust-Oleum Varathane Oil-based Floor Finish Polyurethane. Make sure to recoat only when the previous coats have dried clear and feel hard and are no longer tacky to the touch. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5
