Q:If you wanted more opacity or durability, can you add another coat as per instructions on the first coat or do they need to be modified?

    Answer This Question

A:  Thanks for reaching out, Alex. A second coat of Varathane Premium Fast Dry Wood Stain can be applied 1 hour after the first coat. Apply the first coat of stain liberally with a good quality brush or clean lint free rag. Allow to penetrate for 2–3 minutes, then remove excess by wiping with a rag in the direction of the grain. Removal of all excess material is essential to ensure proper dry time and proper adhesion of topcoat. Fast Dry Stain is dry to touch in approximately 1 hour and can be recoated in 1 hour. Allow 24 hours for full cure. Always apply a test sample on a small, inconspicuous area before proceeding with the entire job. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

Q:I used the quick dry "SunBleached" to change the color a bit on a vintage piece of furniture years ago and did not seal. Wanted to decoupage now, but Mod Podge doesn't stick to the stain so thought about changing it to the Teal color. Will that work?

                Answer This Question

A:  Thanks for reaching out, Linda. Varathane Premium Fast Dry Wood Stain can be applied to previously stained bare (unsealed) wood. Prep the wood by sanding in the direction of the grain. Begin with #120 grit sandpaper and progress though #150, #180 and #220 grits. Since the wood was previously stained, be sure to test your stain to verify the desired color. To test, apply the stain in an inconspicuous area. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6
