Answer This Question

A:  Yes, it certainly can clean tile. The Paint Eater however is not designed to used in a wet environment-damp will be fine but use extreme caution. Keep in mind the plastic guard will keep you about a half inch away from the edge also.

A:  No. We use these disc to smooth down the concrete finish on some of our products, which are all made of concrete. Use a brass wire hand held brush.

A:  Don’t know about tile works well for paint

    by|Jul 19, 2020

A:  Probably not a great idea. It would be pretty difficult to not damage the tile. I'd stay away from that one. Give us a call with more questions at 800-328-8251, thanks for your inquiry!

A:  The answer below that says 'yes' is dead wrong. I bought one of these and experimented on some bathroom tiles. It seriously scratched and in places went through the glazing. Do NOT use this on tile.

        by|Jan 1, 2021

A:  No it would eat right through the finish on the tile.

A:  Our Painter Disk has a different thread, I don't recommend using it with an angle grinder. You can use Painter Eater to remove efflorescence from concrete.

A:  No, the disc has a built in raised nut which fastens onto the Wagner Paint Eater, so will not fit on any other tools. The Paint Eater is a powerful tool with a high rpm.

A:  I am not sure what efforescence on concrete is but I have used the paint eater on a angle grinder sense the Wagner does"t get close to the side of the material. The disc doesn"t as long with the side grinder and make sure you have all the safety equipment because the lower the disc gets the fibers come off.

A:  I do not believe it would fit on an angle grinder. The screw head is specifically designed for the Wagner Paint Eater

A:  You need to make sure the unit turned OFF and unplugged. On the bottom of the unit, press the disc lock and unscrew the disc by turning it counterclockwise to remove the old disc. Pressing the disc lock on the bottom of the unit and thread new disc onto the unit by turning it clockwise. Tightening by hand will do the job.

A:  Please contact your local retailer directly for stocking information. You are reaching the Wagner factory here.

                    by|May 5, 2023

A:  Dont waste your money on this. Harbor Freight sells the same disc for a grinder that lasts 3 times as long as the Wagner brand and it only cost $6. You will have to use the nut and washer off of a grinder. If you do not have a grinder you can buy one for around $10. The Wagner discs wear out very quickly while the ones HF sells last much longer at half the cost.

A:  Call the store. You might be able to have them put it at the front counter for your pickup.

A:  Not sure of what the isle number is but its in the paint section probably near where the paint scrappers are hanging on the wall. If it is not then go to where all the grinding discs and cutting disc, sandpaper and etc is. Or just ask one of the employees in the paint section.

A:  It depends on what kind of surface you are removing the paint from. The life expectancy of the disc on wood and Masonite is approximately 750 square feet. On concrete the life expectancy is approximately 100 square feet. Please feel free to call us at 1-800-328-8251 if you have further questions.

Q:Why are there no purple discs available for sale anymore? It is readily apparent having been removing over 70+ years worth of paint on my garage that the purple discs have a superior grit over the black ones and therefore have lasted noticeably longer. Would I be receiving the purple discs if I were to place an order online?

A:  3M stopped making the purple disc. They now sell a black disc that only lasts a few minutes. I am guessing they did this to make more money. Don't let them rip you off. I found a solution because I am sanding my entire house and I was not about to spend $13 for a disc that only lasted 15 minutes. Harbor Freight sells the same disc for an angle grinder (Item #94017). If you take the nut and washer off the angle grinder you can use it on the Wagner Paint Eater tool. The Harbor Freight discs are less then $6 and they last as long or longer then the purple disc.

A:  Nothing has changed with the discs except the color. Same material, same grit. They are interchangeable so we cannot guarantee the color of the ones you might order. For an in depth discussion you can contact us at 800-328-8251.

A:  I used the Wagner Paint Eater to remove layers of solid color stain from my cedar siding on my house. It does an excellent job removing paint without damaging what's under it. Cedar siding is soft, so I was concerned about an aggressive tool for removing the stain. I researched the Paint Eater online and saw that it was tested on soft and hard materials and worked well on both. That being said, can you damage your vinyl soffit or brick with this tool? YES. If you try hard, this tool will be very aggressive. If you use it correctly, it will do a fine job removing that overspray paint. Start out with a low level of pressure and increase as needed.

A:  It will remove the paint regardless of the length of time it has been on. The problem is the porosity of the brick, it may not get everything out of the little crevices. On the vinyl gutters it will probably scratch the surface of the vinyl.

                                    by|May 3, 2023

A:  The Paint Eater is designed specifically with peeling or delaminating paint in mind, and may not be ideal for fresh or well-adhered material. You may find it will feather it instead of removing it, though if fresh enough it may not have bonded completely and could strip away without issue. Breaking adhesion, however, will likely best be done by using one of our heat tools.
