A: I'd say to make sure the wall surface is clean, and there is a backing paper one must peel off first. The one I bought stuck to the wall just fine. After sticking patch to the wall, it should be spackled over soon thereafter.

A: Sorry for the bad experience you had with our drywall patch. I'm going to be completely honest and state our drywall patches have lousy adhesive. I've been here just short of 34 years and have been complaining about it for 34 years. Problem is we sell hundreds-of-thousands of patches every month and get very few complaints. As a result of the "very few complaints" the adhesive is still lousy (and I'm the company nutcase). I'll tell what I do do with drywall patches no matter who's brand it is (just to possibly save you some grief in the future). After I remove the release paper from the patch I spray "Super 77 Multi-Purpose Spray Adhesive" on the patch (only the patch, not the wall). Let the the patch sit for a few minutes to get tacky and apply it to the wall covering the hole. I also wait at least a couple of hours before applying joint compound to cover the patch so the adhesive has a chance to dry. Again sorry for your experience.

Q:How do I sand down the aluminum to make it smooth enough to paint over?

A: Lynn, this patch is the best way I've found to coverup damaged walls. You stick the patch over the damaged area and then cover it with Spackle. If I used the 6"x6" patch, I would then cover it with a thin coat of spackle about 18" to 24" around. Once the Spackle dries, use a wet sponge or rag to smooth and feather it into the surrounding wall. Do not remove too much Spackle - the patch should not show. HTH

A: You will only see a slight mark it won't be dramatic enough to notice. Just use a fine grit sandpaper or block. It's not noticeable at all with textured walls.

Q:If you cut to size and lose the adhesive edges, how will it stick to wall? I assume spackling without the tape will cause the patch to slide around

A: You would have to find an alternate way to attach the cut side. Although you CAN cut this product, it's really designed to be used whole, like a Band Aid.

Q:Can I use this alone to cover a vent hole behind a over range microwave oven? Or do I need to use spackle with it? The vent hole is on an inner wall. Just want to cover so I can replace microwave with one that doesn't vent outside. Want to know if it is solid or does it have holes in it?

A: I don’t know about a video on this item, but the instructions was easy to follow. The key to having success with this produnt having a couple different size drywall trowels and mudding layers very thin with lightly sanding between each layer.

A: I would recommend the 6” size patch. You need support for your patch all the way around your 4” hole for this patch to hold up. I don’t think the cost is that much more expensive for the 6” patch. If you are going to take the time and effort to patch your wall why not do it right?

A: You would need a bigger size an what you have. If you can get 5x5 it would cover with no cutting. Although you can get the 6x6 and cut it down.
