Q:It says light amber finish. What does that do to knotty pine and knotty alder with no stain?
by|Sep 2, 2022
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: Hi Bendy, Many woods, even knotty pine, and knotty alder, have a yellow hue to them. Therefore, an oil base polyurethane is a good choice to bring out these wood’s natural color. The amber tone of the oil polyurethane will amplify the wood grain, imparting greater depth and bring out darker and lighter tones. Oil base polyurethanes add depth and richness to darker woods like walnut and cherry but darkens light-colored woods.
For woods that are considered light woods (like Maple) without much gain or variation in tone, the water base crystal clear finish is a perfect choice as to not change the color of the wood.

Q:Can I use airless sprayer

Answer This Question
A: Hi Bendy, The ZAR® Exterior Water Based HP Poly is best applied by synthetic brush, but it can be sprayed using an airless, conventional, or HVLP unit with a Fine Finish Tip. It can be used if there is plenty of sunlight on the cabinets. For interior wood that does not get a lot of sun, we recommend use of our ZAR® Interior OMU Polyurethane https://www.zar.com/products/zar-interior/zar-interior-oil-modified-urethane-poly-omu

Q:Do you make a similar product that dries clear? In a matte/flat finish.

Answer This Question
A: Fernand - The slight ambering will not be really seen when used on natural wood surfaces. It will be seen on white surfaces. This slight ambering color is due to the incredible UV resistance built into the product.

Q:How long does it usually last in direct sunlight?
by|Jun 14, 2022
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: Marat - Thank you for your question. The product is designed for use in direct sunlight, the amount of exposure will determine the longevity of the product. It releases the UV inhibitors so a maintenance coat should be applied every 1-2 years or longer in shaded areas. It's hard to give an actual time as it all depends on exposure to the weather. A: TNoble - Thank you for considering ZAR® for your project. We do not suggest using this product on wood flooring. It's unclear if your project is interior or exterior. Our highest performing ZAR® interior polyurethane for floors is ZAR POLY OMU {https://www.homedepot.com/p/ZAR-1-gal-Clear-Satin-Oil-Modified-Interior-Polyurethane-OMU-36213/315198406} If you want a true traditional oil-based polyurethane and live in a unrestricted state (VOC regulations) I would suggest ZAR POLY - Self-Leveling {https://www.homedepot.com/p/ZAR-1-gal-Clear-Satin-Oil-Based-Interior-Polyurethane-Self-Leveling-32913/315164265} Please not that both of these polyurethanes are designed for flooring but can also be used on doors, trim work, and furniture.
