I could not get this to grip on pipe, and when I squeezed the handles to try to get it tight enough to hold, the head cracked through the rivet holes. The ratchet mechanism was very awkward for me to work with. Bottom line, Skil should not lend their name to poorly built Chinese garbage.

Not what I expectd.
This is a tool that was given to me for Christmas of 2015. I have used the tool several times and found it to be clumsy at best. It does not lock and function the way I thought it would. In addition, I pulled it out of the car travel tool bag and the spring lock part was broken. So, I am contacting Iron Bridge Tools at 954-596-1090 to see if they will fix or replace the tool.

finicky
I spend more time trying to get this to work than getting the job done. This is just another smart idea that doesn't work in practice.

Poor quality, avoid
Ratcheting function breaks within a week. Sounds good, but not of durable quality. Maybe only good for light work. Doesn't worth the price. There are better pliers that serve the same purposes in the market.

Ratch function broke in days
Spouse got this for me after the in store display. Save your money. The ratch function stopped working within days. It was of limited use anyway because it requires a large amount of clearance for it to work properly. They are just over priced slip joint pliers at the moment. I would have returned these it I didn't throw away the packaging. If it worked, it would be a good value, key word being IF.

Gimmicky Wrench Improves on Nothing
I don't use Skil brand often but I have no complaints and am actually quite fond of every worm-drive circ saw i've used. Having said that this tool is no good. I am a fan of buying interesting new tools because I don't like to think that the construction and fabrication world is mastered. I knew I was taking a risk with this tool.
The locking mech is falty
Jams during use
easy to twist
I keep it in my install kit because I crave the scenario where it is the perfect tool for the job. Six month and all ive done is take it out to show people how much it sucks.
Buy a Milwaukee flip out razor knife instead. This actually will make your life better and is a solid advancement in razor knife technology. Obviously a knife doesn't solve your wrench problems but if you're in to newer products that knife kills it.

Great price and a great tool !!!
These pliers will grip any surface whether it be round, hexagon, octogon or square. They should be
in every toolbox. Quick and easily adjustable for any job.

Don't bother
These are poorly designed and cheaply made. The machining and finish are not very professional and these are clumsy to use. I have a ratcheting pliers made by Rigid that are much, much better than these.
I will be bringing them back to Home Depot.

won't hold anything smaller than my thumb
it won't hold anything smaller than my thumb at the center of the jaws, and the tip I can only go as small as a pencil, anything smaller it those two areas and it won't grab. For anything bigger it works well, but then again for bolts and nuts that are that big you may need a bigger tool with better leverage and solid build. This thing is going back.

Handy tool for the car or truck
Sometimes you need that wrench to hold a bolt so you can tighten things down - this is the tool. Easy to use, it's adjustability on the fly makes it versatile. Not a jack of all trades, master of none - this tool is simple and delivers as promised.

handy but limits on use
there are some situations where this tool is superior to regular pliers; however, there are many when it works basically the same. if there is no clear and full access to the nut you can not engage the ratchet function.

Sounds like a good idea
This tool does not work as advertised. I really tried to make it work. I wanted it to work because it would replace a whole drawer of tools if it did work! But it was to no avail. I returned it the next day.

Great for the tractor
This product is great for my tractor. It cuts down on the amount of tools I need for small repairs when in the woods working on my property.

Grabs like pliers, grips like a crescent wrench, and turns like a ratchet.
The only down-side I could find involves the locking mechanism... As with all ratchets, you can switch this item between loosening and tightening; but the mechanism can sometimes get stuck between.the two settings, and you need to fiddle with it to make it work again. Maybe that's the problem other reviewers are running into...? That said, once it is in one of the two settings, it works more easily than pliers, crescent wrench OR ratchet.
And I found that the switch always works properly if you fully close the pliers before flipping it.
I use this all the time now. The mechanism may look a little fragile, but I haven't found that to be true.
Also bought a few extra as gifts, and actually heard my mechanic brother say "I don't have one of these!" That NEVER happens!

If learned and used correctly, there are benefits. I did get it to rachet effectively. it does take some getting used to and finesse

Low Price - Low Value
Picked one up at an after Christmas sale. Had the Skil Name on it - but seems to be made by Ironbridge Tools in China. Rather clunky and hard to use.

not like the commercial.
Why is it that things look so cool on tv but when you get them home they do not work as such? That's the problem I had with this product. It did not work as advertised. I had to us it like a regular pair of pliers. I could not get it to ratchet. And it would get stuck in the open position. Then I would have to play with it to get it unstuck. For something that looks so easy, it was difficult to use.

Piece of junk??
Perhaps I got a defective unit, but it doesn't ratchet as advertised and one of the moveable pieces in the jaw, broke on the first attempt to tighten a nut. Will return it and think about exchanging it for another unit? However the closet Home Depot is an hour away.
