Could be better, move on
I was excited to get this tub. It was deeper than the previous tib and I was looking forward to a good soak. I have been able to do that but there are a few thungs I dont like. First, this is my secind tub. During the install, the timer dropped a tile and chipped the tub. 🙁 I considered a different tub at the time but all the plumbing and prep was done to this tub’s specifications. After install the edge was caulked, looked good. But now I am noticing a gap at the edge and the wall. The weight of the water and a person appears to flex the tub and opened a space in the caulk. I am not happy with this development and if it wasnt such a nightmare to change ot the tub, I would. I will caulk it with wayer in the tub and hope the gap stays closed. The pictures are when no water is in the tub. The gap is bigger when there is.

    Good tub
My tub came with only two slight imperfections. Other than that, it survived a whole renovation of things getting dropped on it, and it survived like a champ. I'm 5'8" and this tub is low enough that I can step in easily and deep enough that I can fit under the water. I stuffed insulation around it, so it stays pretty warm for a half hour bath. My plumber had trouble with the drain, though. The recommended one did not fit nor did the adjustable one I bought. He had to custom fit one in.

      Beautiful!
Very heavy to install, but worth it! The non slip bottom eventually doesn't feel like sandpaper when taking a bath, which I was concerned about. Love our tub!

        Time to Relax and Soak
This tub is a perfect size to relax and soak. I wish I had purchased the special drain which drains from the top because that would add 2 inches of soak. But, all in all, I would purchase this tub again!

        Terrible Finish.
I bought this tub because i wanted a quality bathtub to go in our remodel. The americast tub i looked at in my dealers showroom looked great. Unfortunately the tub i received has a terrible factory finish. The white coating is way too light in several spots and the metal beneath is showing through the finish...it looks like the tub is dirty. With the finish this thin it not only looks bad but i'm wondering how long it will hold up. Unfortunately my contractor and i never noticed the poor finish in the tub until near the end of the install. For the money i spent on this tub and bathroom remodel its sickening. Seems like there is a major quality control issue for a new tub to have left the facrory like this.

No sliding tub doors to fit this tub
Buyer beware. American Standard does little to make potential customer is aware that the threshold on this tub is only 2 inches deep. What that means is that if you are looking to install sliding doors on this tub, you will find it impossible. Even the so called 2 inch flat area isn’t in fact level(see photos—and yes, tub is level). I’d rip out this tub if I could.

        Muralgirl,
Thank you for your review. We do apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. Our Euro semi frameless bypass/sliding tub door has the minimum required threshold of 1-1/2". Our Framed bypass/sliding door has the minimum required threshold of 1-1/2" as well. The model numbers would depend on the tub measurements. As far as the tub not being level, there is a 1/4" tolerance on the deck of the tub and that is why we say that the tubs have to be set in a mortar bed.

Very nice tub..one caution or installation note.
This is a very nice tub - well made, beautiful finish. I like the external insulation- it is very durable. Glad I purchased it. One caution if you are using it for remodeling- the spec sheet does not really account for the added insulation.

American standard has huge quality control issues with these tubs. If you get lucky and end up with one that doesn't have any flaws, they seem like a great concept. I ordered this exact tub from Home Depot (returned), a supplier from an online retailer (returned), and I looked at 5 tubs at a local supplier and they all had similar issues including pits in the finish, creases in the front upper left apron corner which doesn't allow for a nice straight tile line down the front face of the apron, and inconsistent sanding of the non-slip surface. These issues have also delayed me weeks in ordering, waiting, returning, and reordering tubs...After losing complete faith in this tub and every one we looked at having issues, We bit the bullet and put in a beautiful Kohler cast iron tub (k-506) made in Kohler, Wisconsin, USA. The quality is not even compostable. It was heavy, takes several people, and some MacGyvering to get it in, but it sure was worth it and we have much more confidence that we have a good, durable tub, and won't have long term issues. This is the first thing that goes in and removal for a defective tub is impossible without tearing out brand new flooring and surround tile (or what ever you are using). I would avoid this tub until American standard gets it's act together.

              Love it!
I am really glad we purchased this tub. I wanted a deep tub that was heavy duty, metal and insulated. We replaced a walk-in shower with the tub so our little boy could have bath time. I also like to soak on occasion. This tub is perfect for a good soak! I searched online for a long time before deciding and I’m glad I chose this one! Have it delivered to your home!

Bought this tub in 2013, The finish has completely worn away and it has rusted at the overflow drain. It looked nice for about a year. The water line and dirt cannot be cleaned or removed with anything I have tried. I cleaned it according to manufacture directions and sadly the finish did not hold up at all. Having to rip it out and completely redo the tub and tile area. I would not recommend this tub.

I bought this tub for a bathroom renovation post-Katrina. Soon after installation I found that the patterned slip-resistant surface attracted dirt which was able to be removed with firm scrubbing. Now it is nearly impossible to remove, even with Comet. It is always looking filthy.

NOLA70124, thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue with removing dirt from the slip resistant surface. Comet is not a recommended product to clean the tub with as it can create fine grooves in the finish and cause dirt to collect more easily. Under normal use soap and water can be used. For more stubborn stains on the slip resistant surface use powdered Spic'NSpan or BonAmi. Wet the Surface sprinkle the powder and clean with a soft nylon bristle brush and rinse. If you need any further assistance please contact us directly through the American Standard website "Contact Us" located at the bottom of our home page so we can assist you. Very pleased since I ordered this without being able to see it beforehand. Feels very solid and durable (no concern about standing on the edge of it). I'm not sure what the material actually is but it seems like a cast iron (or at least has that "feel" about it.) Arrived in excellent condition and was installed without any chips or other marks. Nice deep tub for soaking. Retained the heat from the water when taking a hot bath. Also retained the water until I undid the plug. There is some kind of thin non-slip surface in the bottom tub interior but you don't really see it - if you run your hand over it you can tell but otherwise it blends in well with the other material. All in all a quality product.

I debated between a Bootzcast tub and this tub for a long time and feel I made the right choice. This tub has a classic, clean look and is a nice depth- luxurious compared to a standard 8 inch soaking depth, but also not so tall as to make it difficult to climb in and out of. I used this tub to update a bathroom with a look to suit the age of my house (1920) and think it looks great- only an experienced eye would be able to tell it's a steel tub and not cast iron. I would highly recommend this product. I had help from a contractor installing it- it took 2 people to get it up the stairs and into place but installation went very smoothly without surprises. Remember to line the tub with cardboard to protect it from screws and thuds during tiling, etc.

This is an excellent bath tub. Much better than the cheaper fiberglass or acrylic tubs and will maintain its finish much longer. We had to return our first installation attempt. The first tub had an unfinished backside surface that was damaged at the drain location. We ordered another tub and Home Depot refunded the original purchase without difficulty. The replacement tub had a much better, or semi finished backside surface and installed without any issues. We would definitely use his tub again and highly recommend it to new customers.

We had the American Standard Cambridge tub installed in our guest bathroom about March the 21st. We like the appearance and sturdiness of the tub. The non-slip bottom is nice too. Because the tub is slightly wider than our original tub (a standard 5' x 30" tub), our plumber had to move the faucet valve over an inch to keep it centered with the tub drain. The drain line had to be moved over also, which wasn't a big problem for us since this bathroom is upstairs. If you have your drain line in a concrete slab, that is something to consider before buying this tub. The finish had worn off our old tub, so we are happy to have this attractive deep soaker tub now. We are hoping the finish on the tub will last for many years so we don't have to go through the process of replacing it ever again.

This is a nice deep tub for soaking in. The rim is wide enough to comfortably support plenty of shampoo bottles, etc. Just be aware that if you're replacing a 30 in. tub with this 32 in. one, the plumbing won't line up right. Our contractors managed to hook ours up anyway, but it wasn't easy.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this tub! It was installed by our contractor, so we don't know how "heavy" it is, but certainly lighter than the cast iron and just as solid a feel when you are in it! The water also stays warm. It is even larger than I imagined and VERY deep... we couldn't be happier and I would recommend this to anyone. We bought the "biscuit" color and toilet to match as that color matched our older vanity and sink that I did not want to replace. I give this 5 stars and the price is wonderful !

                        Don't buy this tub
The tub chipped already! I just had my hall bathroom redone and bought this tub because I wanted a deeper tub. The tub (in a $10k+ remodeled tiny bathroom) has chipped in first one spot, then two, now three!! A shower curtain ring fell on the tub and boom ... an instant chip. Curtain rings are not heavy and I was shocked to see it. Since then, another piece three inches away from the first showed up. Now a third. The whole thing is chipping. This is two months in ... can't imagine what the tub would look like in six months nonetheless six years. I had my other tub for 26 years and never a scratch. I called and wrote to American Standard ... still waiting.

Nice tub, just take the installation instructions with a grain of salt
Tub has a very nice finish to it, well packed, and seems to be of good quality at first blush. The Americast material seems to be a good compromise between a too-heavy cast iron tub and a too-delicate porcelain-on-steel or acrylic tub. The only real issue I had was with the position of the 2x4 stringer used to support the back of the tub. I ended up having to reposition it 3 times (lowering it slightly each time) before I got the tub perfectly level -- and my floor is level in both directions and the stringer was straight and level, so it wasn't due to any of those factors. I ended up dropping the stringer almost 3/4" below what the instructions said, which seemed substantial. That also meant I had to pull the tub in and out 3 additional times -- thankfully I hadn't yet constructed my right alcove wall so it was relatively painless -- just inconvenient. It may have been OK at the original height indicated, but I'm a perfectionist and it would be silly to take a chance and find out after the fact that the water pooled slightly instead of draining completely. I also think the cutout they called for (9x12, I believe) was a bit of overkill for the width, considering some people will have to notch floor joists for new construction or moving around a remodeled bath (which is my situation). I cut the width down to 6" to minimize the size of the notch and it will still be ample for the drain. The only other nit I noticed was a little extra material (from the casting) on each end of the tub that would interfere if I had both walls already constructed to exactly 60 inches. Simple and quick to scrape off with a knife, but it might make it harder to slide in if your space is tight. Overall, I think the tub will work very well for us.

We remodeled our 1965 bathroom and replaced our blue cast iron tub with this one!! It's perfect if you love getting baths!! It has a 14 inch soaking depth! It had generous ledges for your bath items. Every plumber I talked to has this tub! It's as close to cast iron (without the weight) as you can get!! I love it!

I agree that it is great that it's not cast iron so My plumber didn't have an issue carrying it up the stairs. Beware that the bath is a little wider than I had thought and my plumber had to move where everything went for the faucet. It is a nice bath though, good places for soap etc. Feels surprisingly large when you're in it. Glad I bought this one. We have only used it 3 times though so far but all the signs are promising!!

                            Impressive
I've always favored a cast iron tub for the durability and looks compare to the newer fiberglass tubs. So when my contractor recommended I get this tub, I was skeptical. After the installation, I was pleasantly impressed. First of all, the tub felt solid and it also looked great. I would not be able to tell it wasn't cast iron, except for the fact that it was not cold like cast iron. Secondly, the depth of the tub makes it look and feel a lot larger. The large ledge on one end of the tub provides ample room for shampoo, soap, or even a few candles. I am sure my wife will appreciate that. My only concern is the cleaning instructions. It said not to use abrasive materials or detergents. I have a maid clean my vacation property and I won't be able to ensure that she follows these cleaning instruction carefully.

I was looking for a tub with classic lines for a retro look. My plumber recommended americast as being sturdy. I sounds sturdy, not hollow. No mortar bed required and it is very level from corner to corner which will make tiling easier.

I purchase this tub from a local supply house but wanted to leave a review because no one has mentioned my favorite feature! Unlike standard steel tubs, acrylic and even cast iron, this tub is INSULATED!! My kids fill it up with hot water and is is STILL hot 30+ minutes later. If your going to waste the water to bathe than at least you can enjoy as long as possible...Also, when the shower is going you dont get the noisy, tinny sound that a cheap steel tub has ...I never thought I would like a bath tub so much!!

The remodel has just been completed and I have only used the tub twice, but so far it is very promising! It is wonderfully comfortable, just the right depth and looks very nice.

                            Great Tub !!
We purchased this tub by the reviews posted online and they were spot on. It is a great soaking tub even for my husband who is 6' tall. It looks great in our small bathroom 9' long x 5" wide. We did a white subway tile surround and on the ceiling also; it makes our small bathroom very large. Overall very pleased with it -- The reason why ease of installation was average is floor wall were not uniformed and had to build out to accomodate.
