Great tire and perfect fit for my S1742 tractor. I was somewhat concerned about a compatibility issue due to my tractor being older and a brand no longer in production. Originally looked for just the tire replacement without the rim and picked these up instead. I bought these tires April of 2020 and was glad to paid extra to have new steel and not need to fit a new tire to an old rim. As other reviewers have mentioned - there can be "fit" issues on the axel due to the paint on inner part of the wheel. The first wheel went on with little strain. The second wheel I fought with for over an hour before deciding I need to do something else to ensure I didn't damage the axel. I took a dremel tool and used a fine sander attachment to remove the paint from inner part of wheel. This took all of about 5 minutes and made a huge difference - the wheel slid onto the axel with no problems. Thanks to other reviewers for having mentioned this trick!

I checked on line the night before to make sure the closest Home Depot had a rear 8x20 wheel/tire for my riding mower (also purchased at Home Depot). They had one. When I looked over the one tire in stock I thought the diameter of the hub looked a little too small but the label on the tire stated that it would fit my specific mower. My eye was right, the hub didn't come close to fitting over the ¾ inch axle. I took it back and went across the highway to that other store, which was really just a waste of time. I then went to the next closest Home Depot. Before I left the house to return the non-fitting wheel I had marked a tapered dowel using the original equipment wheel (flat tire) and used the dowel to make sure the wheel at the second Home Depot (again, one in stock) would fit so I wouldn't repeat the earlier process. Eureka! Perfect. Not my lucky day. Another problem. The slot in the hub of the second purchased wheel was too narrow for the sheer key. I used a bench grinder to grind the sheer key to fit and I was finally ready to mow my dying grass. Keep in mind that this mower including axle and sheer key were all original equipment.The Arnold wheels were the problem. Arnold or what ever company manufactures their wheels has a quality control problem. I can understand how both of these problems could occur in manufacturing but I can also envision a Quality Control/Quality Assurance program to minimize these problems and keep them from leaving the plant and ending up at Home Depot and in my shop. I know that Home Depot couldn't possibly test fit and function of every item they sell but I would hope that Home Depot holds the vendors feet to the fire when quality problems of items sold by Home Depot are brought to their attention. Long before I was born, William Shakespeare wrote All's Well That Ends Well so I guess by that standard my adventure was All Well but still a bit more time and effort expended than I would have desired just to replace a flat tire on a mower. I have no problem with the tire; still full of air after helping mow about two acres. Question: Would I recommend this product? Answer: I would recommend Home Depot. I'd recommend the wheel/tire with the above story and a caveat.

Others have run into the problem of the wheel seemingly not fitting the axle. I used a 1/4 in. Aluminum Oxide Grinding Point Cylinder for Grinding and Shaping Metal (Home Depot purchase) to make the hole in the wheel diameter 3/4 in. by slightly filing the paint down. After this procedure, the wheel fit quite well. Leveled the axle with a jack and used a 16 oz. rubber mallet to fully install the wheel on the axle. Hope this helps others who have run into the problem of the wheel not seeming to fit the axle! This is a good tire for my Poulan Lawn Tractor.

Size of axle was off. I had to grind the hole little bit to fit.

The wheel hub has thick layer of paint inside wheel hub. Filing and wire brushing to get off paint inside hub, looks this is going to be much murr difficult than it needs to be

Fit my Scott’s by John Deere L42 perfectly. Cheaper and easier than replacing just the tire.

Clean the paint off the inside of the axle way before mounting. I used a curved wood chisel and 150&220 grit sandpaper.
