Frustrated, Tired & Disappointed
We had a bay window bench built, as well as a entry way hall tree with storage under both. So, I had to get custom doors custom made for the storage part. After 3 weeks & several hundred dollars, it was time to paint everything white! Of course, we sanded, cleaned & primed everything except the doors to start. I originally bought INSL-X which was very pricey, had no other complaints about it. Now FF two weeks later... The custom doors finally arrived (3 days ago) & I send my husband went to HD to get paint, STRESSING that I want the absolute smoothest finish possible to get closer to a MFG look. I said I was fine with BEHR because it’s typically a good product & they have a cabinet paint similar to the one mentioned above. He came home with this paint & promised that the folks at HD said this IS the one we need to get the results I was wanting. We already had doors perfectly primed, sanded & clean. 3 coats of this paint & 3 days later... They look terribly rough & splotchy. NOT at all the smooth cohesive look I was going for! (And yes, I’ve sanded b/t coats, etc.) So, the next day, we sanded them back down to try it all over again, but to no avail... SAME RESULTS!!! Now my brand new custom doors (which weren’t cheap) look like crap & in order to “fix” this, I would have to spend more $ on paint plus another 2 days minimum redoing them. Who has time for that when you’ve already spent an extra day & night on it. The amount of money & time spent to have a crappy or unfinished project literally makes me want to cry!!! I trusted BEHR products until now, but this has been beyond upsetting... However, I do think if you are buying this paint for trim only, it will get the job done fine. (I included pic of the brand new doors so you can see how easy this part of the project should have been!)

Hello KK, thank you for your feedback. We are terribly sorry to hear you didn't get the smooth even finish you were expecting from our paint; we assure you this is not the experience we want our customers to have with our products.

To get your project back on track, we recommend scuff sanding your doors, cleaning them and allowing them to completely dry, and priming them with a primer such as our Kitchen, Bath & Trim Stain-Blocking Primer & Sealer No. 75 before recoating them. When recoating, we'd recommend using a high quality 100% nylon brush or a high quality 1/4" nap roller. An airless sprayer with a .011" - .015" tip and 60 mesh filter can also be used to apply your paint. Our Cabinet & Trim is self-leveling. However, light sanding can be done in between coats with 320-400 grit sand paper to provide an even smoother finish.

Customer satisfaction is very important to us. Please feel free to directly reach out to our Customer Care team with any questions you may have or for assistance, as we'd like to help. Have a great day. -Joanna Behr

Stay away! We had to give up after doing the same board 5 times! switched paint, perfect first coat
The advertising makes this stuff sound great, well that is advertising for you! We sanded a small flat easy to paint, easy to sand board down to the bare wood, made sure it was really smooth, even using filler primer after the sealant primer and sanded down again for each attempt in between. keep in mind this is with a top quality brush, not a sprayer. We tried: light coats, 2 then 3 coats, bad brush lines and ridges (maybe mountain ranges is more appropriate here, clearly from the brush lines not the wood grain) heavy coats, 1 thick coat, then 2 and 3 were attempted, again got bad brush lines and ridges at every step and on every side of the board again. Okay, a sprayer might not give the same results, but my takeaway first out is that this stuff does not have "excellent flow & leveling", actually the opposite, it has horrible flow and leveling. I chatted with the BEHR customer service and all they could do was blame the primer and specifically said not to add any conditioners. They would send me a replacement quart and a quart of their recommended primer in about 15 business days, yes, it takes 3 weeks to get a quart of paint. Not going to delay the project that long, contractor will be here before then. After chatting with the sales rep, I was curious and ran the back of my finger nail on the board to check its scratch resistance, well it left a permanent mark that was akin to chalk on a chalk board, big and obvious. Clearly not scratch resistant enough to be in a kitchen on cabinet doors. There goes the claim about "dries to a hard, durable finish" Okay, giving up on that, went back to HD to get some outdoor paint. In talking with the sales rep, he told me a few days prior he had a customer come in and complain that the doors had bonded to the cabinet frames as the paint finished curing. Doesn't sound like the "Doors won't stick after 2 hours" claim is accurate either! All in all, I would say this paint has failed to meet every one of its claims on the label. I went with the Marquee outdoor paint, and first coat already turned out perfectly. Save yourself the headache and just get a good paint to start with!

      Great for cabinets
Painted our cabinets about one month ago and paint is holding up very well. So far no chips. I will say the paint is fairly thin and we did have issues with the paint running when painting the frames of the cabinets. Would recommend hand painting the inner frames where the doors go and using a spray gun only on the outsides and the doors. Otherwise, dries quick and minimal smell.

        Great Product
Cabinets were chipping and peeling. Cut and sanded then rolled on the enamel. Covered the old chipped area really nicely. Purchased a quart and didn't use a fourth of the can. A little goes a long way!

This color is absolutely gorgeous it’s even better than expected! Covered nicely in just two coats with a great finish. Got the same paint in but of sugar and it took 5 coats to completely cover and now I need to buy more to finish my upper cabinets. Not completely done yet as this is a huge job but almost!

Bad finish, Gouges/scratches easily, Bad Paint!
I used their other enamel and liked it. Paint and primer in one interior semigloss enamel. Then I saw this cabinet paint and thought, wow, even better! (NOT SO) Very bad. The finish is almost flat for a semi gloss. It was thin. Worst though is that it gouges and scratches easily. I followed recs online for Zinser BIN Primer. I thought maybe that was the issue. I primed 2 pieces of trim. 1) zinser BIN and 2) Kilz. In both cases, this cabinet paint lacked good adhesion. It scratches FAR more easily than their regular enamel. Gouges easily too. This stuff is not better for cabinets. It is crap.

Hi Peter - Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that the paint scratches and gouges easily! Once the finish has completely cured, it will provide a hard, durable finish. To fix, we recommend lightly sanding the scratched spots, spot priming (if necessary), then touching up with more paint. For further assistance with this, please feel free to reach out to us directly. We'd be happy to help. - Sara Behr

            Smooth clean paint
Few things about this paint based on my trial and error. I used this paint on new wood wainscoating and dark painted trim we painted white. You need a Minimum 3 coats needed for a great finish. You could probably do 2 primes and 2 paints but i didn't try that. We primed then painted 3 coats on painted trim and 4 on the wood after priming. Dont use a paint conditioner because this paint will self smooth as it dries. It does NOT have primer in it so it needs primer first. Does not need to be thinned to spray with hvlp sprayer. Note with the hvlp i got 3 coats in one day because it dried quickly 2-3h. Either way I will be using behr ultra or marquee for the rest of the trim because it covers over dark paint with less coats. Ended up costing more for this paint needing extra coats but it does look great. $0.02...ps I worked for a painter in high school and college. Not a pro myself but more experience than your average DIY painter.

quick dry time abd minimal coats needed
I was looking to repaint the bathroom vanity and a house I recently purchased. I went back-and-forth between the best option that would hold up over time. I webt with White Mocha This paint is very thick and adhered to the wood nicely. The vanity was a dark brown stain prior and I was able to completely cover the vanity with less than three coats. Overall happy with the results.

Hi Leomard706 - Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that this color had a bluish tint! I recommend making sure the color was mixed correctly by comparing the paper swatch for Tin Foil N500-3 to the dried paint dab on the lid of your can. If they match, the color is correct, and you may want to choose a warm toned gray to recoat your project with. If they don't match, the color may have been mixed incorrectly, and we would recommend continuing your project with the right color. So we can assist you with this further, please feel free to reach out to us directly. We hope to hear from you! – Sara Behr

                    Dries evenly, looks great
Overall, I'm happy with the results. It dries evenly and smooth. I got better results using a roller than a paint brush. Covering a really dark brown required three coats, but I anticipated that, going from really dark to white.

I used this paint on some out of date cabinets in my laundry room, and I'm very happy with the finished product. I used brushes and rollers and had good coverage on the cabinets after only 2 coats (brushed on first coat and rolled on second coat using brush for features/tight spots) after a good sanding of the cabinets. The finish is durable after curing, which can take a few weeks. As I live in a dry climate, the cabinets were dry to the touch after only 2 house. I put my freshly painted cabinets to use after just 2 days by putting a little rubber bumper on the corner of each cabinet door, so the painted surfaces do not stick to one another. The cured paint is stain resistant and has been easy to clean with a damp rag. The leveling feature of the paint was also exceptional and resulted in a quality final coat. If I was painting kitchen cabinets, I would probably put a couple coats of poly over the final coat but not necessary for laundry room cabinets.

I sprayed my kitchen cabinet doors and drawers with this, and the finish looked like it came from the factory. The Alkyd is the only way to go if you're doing this type of finish work, no brush or roller marks. I'll never buy anything else.

                        Great Paint
First time I have used this paint. It is relatively thin, so ideal for spray from my Homeright electric sprayer. Went on flawlessly and dried fast!. Two coats over a tinted primer covered great. I will use this again.

                          Horrible finish!
I bought this paint due to good reviews and wanted something specifically for my mothers kitchen cabinets. What a disappointment! I use a paint sprayer for these projects to get things done quicker since I work at the hospital and limited on extra time! I usually thin out according to manufacturer and this stated not to thin. I tried it BOTH ways, with and without just because it's pretty thick. This paint left thick spots in areas and just very dull looking! Another issues clogged up my paint sprayer tip and splattered everywhere! I'm now at a standstill for now. I've primed and thought quick spray no biggie and boy was I WRONG! Never again!

The paint covered my kitchen cabinets well but when they started to dry, the white pain started yellowing. I'm going to have to resand them and repaint them with a different brand paint.

I bought this paint thinking that it would be a good durable finish. It was mixed to the espresso bean color I used zinser 123 primer under recommendation of Homedepot associates but the finish turned out looking like leather as you can see in the pic. My customer is not happy about it. I used a 1/4" Knapp roller as suggested by the info on the can. Expensive failure now I have to fix it. Signed help!!

Hi Bill, thank you for your review, and I am sorry to hear you didn't get a smooth finish as expected. For best results it would be best to apply paint with a high quality 100% Nylon brush. Also, you may want to lightly sand in between coats to help give a smoother finish using a 320-400 grit sandpaper. To help with this, please don't hesitate to reach out to us directly; we'd love to help make things right. -Edith Behr

This paint makes my kitchen cabinets look lovely. Today, it's very humid and a bit cold, and it's been raining since last night. The paint is not even slightly tacky, as some finishes are when the humidity is high. This is a high quality, enamel paint that, while expensive, is worth the money. The lighter colored upper cabinets and pantry doors are done with one coat, brushed on - not rolled. I liked the way they looked, so I did only one coat, so far, on purpose. I just love how it all turned out. The only issue I had was, first of all, that it was just under $40 a gallon (!!! Yikes). Also, once the liquid color mixer was added for the dark green, the paint was rather runny and I had to be careful not to let it drip. It took two coats, but the finish is beautiful. It dried to a hard, durable finish - one that doesn't chip when my nails slide over it when opening drawers. The light color was thicker, and went on easily, with a brush. Both were totally dry within a half hour, and it dried to durable hard finish by evening. Cleanup with water was easy, as long as I got it quickly. If I let it go the next day, I had to work hard to get it cleaned up...a good sign as to how hard it will be to damage the paint on the cabinets. I had to use a straight razor to remove the big blob I dropped inside my stainless steel sink, but it came off quite easily with the razor. I did not prime my cabinets. some were bare, unfinished wood, and some were painted a medium gray color, which chipped when I would accidentally slide my nails into it as I opened my cabinet drawers. There is no difference in the durable finish, despite the different conditions of the cabinets. I'm totally pleased and would buy this again.

I loved the paint but I fought removing lump's in the paint the whole quart. I figured out the lump's came from inside the lid rim paint had dried for some reason, maybe the lid wasn't properly tightened from the processor. I was repainting a baby's dressing table and crib. I wanted paint that was water based and durable so I chose the Behr Cabinet and Trim white. I also was using a Graco X5 Trueairless sprayer that I had purchased from Home Depot. Both pieces of furniture turned out great and the airless sprayer worked beautifully. Bottom line, paint was great, the sprayer was great and the furniture turned out great. I would highly recommend both products.

We used it to white wash kitchen cabinets with the paint on a rag over sanded worn pickled finish. Worked awesome and was easy to blend. It drys a bit quick, so work with a little speed or it starts getting sticky. If you re-wet the paint with fresh paint if it gets a little dry it will soften up, but don't wait too long.

This is a high quality paint and the perfect alternative to oil based paints. It is very easy to work with low odor and water cleanup, and no need for special brushes, equipment or disposal requirements. I used brushes and rollers and had good coverage after 2 coats. The finish is durable after curing, which can take a few weeks (although it drys in only a few hours, the paint is not fully cured or at full strength). I put my freshly painted cabinets to use after just 2 days by putting a little plastic, or felt circle on the corner of each cabinet door, so the painted surfaces do not stick to one another. I use this paint on a cabinet in my laundry area and it has withstood damp clothes on it and other damp conditions. The cured paint is stain resistant, but also cleans easy with a damp rag. This paint would work good for baseboards, doors and other areas where a durable paint is needed.

Very nice paint. Very low odor if anything at all. The only reason for the four stars is that the coverage is average. I’ve used many paints and painted thousands of square feet over the years. Even when top coating over natural white color, you’re most likely going to need two coats with this. Other than that, the leveling and sheen is wonderful. Dries to touch within minutes and clean up is super easy since it is water-based, which is a plus. So far I’ve painted an interior door with this and it came out very nice.

Normally I use Behr Paint, and just realized they had Semi-gloss Interior "Cabinet and Trim". Now my camera isn't the greatest, and the lighting is lousy down there. But I thought it might be something new and improved from the last time I did my cabinets, also by Behr... I don't think this paint was exceptional in any sense, but all the same, when the job is done, I believe Behr Paint will be most durable, cleanable and easy care. That has been my experience to date. I was quite conscientious about stirring in between coats. My photos show the first coat applied, the second, third and even fourth coat, and I'm still not certain that a fifth coat will really cover it! I guess that it's approximately the same as any Behr alkyd latex. It's still good paint, but it requires a lot of coats!
