[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Char-Griller Side Box is the ideal addition to my 50-50 dual fuel grill/smoker. An easy upgrade. Well designed, heavy duty construction. Looking for multiple years of use.

My husband and I live in our RV and have been to a plethora of campgrounds where the grills they provided were straight up sketchy. Rusty, dusty, dirty, nasty grills that no one in their right mind would ever want to cook on. That ruined our dinner plans UNTIL we got our hands on the Chargriller Portable Charcoal Grill. Our favorite features are that it’s lightweight, easy to assemble, and has plenty of cooking area. Everything we have made on it tastes fantastic. We can grill with a high heat to sear steaks or adjust the air vents to decrease the temps and create a smoker for pulled pork. I even put my Dutch oven in it one time to make a chicken pot pie. It’s stows away in the bed of our truck when we travel. We drove 3,000 miles from California to Florida and it didn’t rattle apart or take any damage from weather. This portable grill not only met our cooking and traveling expectations, it also beat the other competitors prices by literally hundreds of dollars. 10/10 would recommend to a friend.

One of the most versatile, portable grills on the market! I just got my 3rd one, 2 are used as fireboxes on bigger barrels and one lives in the camping trailer. As a firebox they are incredibly easy to mount and hold heat extremely well, the easy dump ash pan is a game changer! As a grill I have done everything from burgers, chicken, steaks and have even done pork butts low and slow using it as a offset smoker. Highly, highly recommend!!

I have this on my Super Pro 2.0 and it transforms it into one of the most versatile grills you will ever have. You can do long smokes with indirect heat and also use the same fire in the box for searing if you like the reverse sear method. This can also be used as a stand alone portable grill if you wish.

These little grills are great! You will want more than one. Get one for the beach or tailgating trip. Get another one to add to your Char-Griller barrel style grill to make an offset smoker. My family’s favorite meal is a Tri Tip that is smoked to 125° internal, then I sear it in the Side Fire Box. Perfect every time !

I have had one for over a year and recently got a 2nd one to use as a firebox for my wrangler. You’re not gonna find a more versatile unit on the market! The one I use for camping can do burgers one night and I can do 8lb pork butt low and slow the next day!! It took my 12 yr old all of a 1/2 hr to mount the 2nd one as a firebox, turning our wrangler into an awesome little offset! Well built and a great value for the money!!

Purchased on November 2, 2022 to add to my dual Char Griller. Installed November 3, 2022. Used ONCE November 6th for a 2 hour smoke. Already risk and damage. Before use and after cooling it has been covered by a Char Griller cover. Very disappointing.

As a single dad with a 6yr old daughter that's just starting to get serious about grilling, this Side Fire Box meets all of our needs. And I love the fact that it can fit right in the trunk if we want to take it for a ride to the park or on an all day fishing trip. The portability does it for me!!

This grill is what I needed to learn how to smoke meat. Also it was easy to add on to an existing Char-Grill Combo. Great product and would recommend this to all who wants to learn to smoke meat.

Serves my purpose well, so far. I've attached it as a fire box to a custom homemade smoker and it's just what I needed. Some of the paint has burt off due to my burning live fire wood. I have not use as a grill but imagine it would work well.

I don't have burn wood in this, only lump coal and wood chips, and haven't had a problem with warping or paint peel. (I feel that's where others may have gone wrong) and a little spray of water from a squirter bottle of any flare ups do occur also helps. Great for doing low and slow or any type of smoked foods, I even made smoked salt and liquid smoke as gifts for friends and family.

I bought this as an addition to my super pro for the reason of indirect heating source when I smoke ribs. A minor setback was the broken spot welds on the ash pan but nothing major. Attached easily to my grill & I will get more use of this little gem from now on.

Side Fire box was easy to attach to the grill. It is the perfect size and makes the grill look awesome. My husband was very pleased with it!

The set up as a firebox was a little complicated. We also realize a couple of the weld spots have come apart. It had to be re-welded before it could be installed. But once it was fixed it worked fine.

This thing is garbage. The paint burned off during the first use. Char-Griller claims that temperature cannot exceed 400 degrees. If you are using this as a side firebox, that is unreasonable. A wood fire will exceed those temps often. You may not be cooking at those temps, but the fire will certainly reach that. Also, I would think that someone using it as a grill would also see temps exceeding that. Additionally, it kind of hangs off the side of the Doubleplay grill. Doesn't look solid or sturdy at all. You are better off buying a separate smoker.

Good added to my grill to make it a smoker

I bought this side smoker box for my big dual fuel Char Griller. Assembly was easy, but the two spacers that keep the smoker away from the grill were too short, the smoker did not sit level. A call to the fine folks at Char Griller got the right part to me most riki tik I used the side smoker for the first time this Easter whippin' up some baby backs. I am so glad that I sprung for this side smoker. I have used other smokers and wasnt near as happy as I am with this side smoker. I recommend this Char Griller side smoker to anyone that needs a smoker for your Char Griller grill. Don't miss out, get one of your own

The firebox does not attach very well. It sags when installed. Additional hardware is needed for proper and secure installation. Very disappointed with this product.

I'm using this as a side fire box. It was easy to install. The spacers provided were not the correct size so I made some myself from copper piping and painted them black. It works great, but I'm still figuring out how to use it to get the best results.

My friend told me about one of his friends that cooked a lot with charcoal and he died. The optopsy proved this (chemicals that charcoal puts out or something)So I will use the propane side the most and this smoker once in a while ! You have to use charcoal and wood chips to get your smoke on.I kinda wish I bought the Treager BBQ instead because you set it and don't have to baby sit it as much. I've only had it about a month and only used the smoker twice. I really didn't notice a difference with it or the propane side which this smoker bolts up to on the right side and it looks like it's not in line it hangs down on the right side. It looks like I did a bad job mounting it. I called the guy at home depot that helps the guy that puts the BBQ's together and they both said they had the same problem.They even called the manufacture and they said that's the way it's suppose to be.Oh well I installed 4 washers on each side of the smoker when I installed it to the main BBQ which is propane on the left side and charcoal on the right (now middle) because the smoker goes on the right side ( so it wouldn't hang so crooked or look as stupid). Another friend told me i have to have a BBQ so i went online to www.consumerreports.com and looked for the best rated BBQ's. I WENT to my favorite store near me the home depot a few different days and desided to buy the Double Char-Griller (professional grills and smokers with this smoker attachment). Now my friends can come over and have a choice of PROPANE,CHARCOAL OR CHARCOAL WITH THE WOOD CHIPS ANY FLAVOR THEY SELL. So when I was looking at them they had the Treagers on a different isle not with all the rest of the BBQ's. Anyway it was like twice the price and you would only have the one choice with it to cook so I guess I'm a happy camper with what I bought.

This product is made from very thin metal that warps when heated. There is no way to seal the fire box to choke the flame and cause it to smoke. The metal is so thin that they can "Stamp" their name in it instead of using the same logo as on the grills like before.

I love this, I use it as a side fire box I put it on chargrilled duo 5050, super easy to install and works great, I just start with some charcoal and when it turns to ash I throw a couple in some hickory once it starts burning good I start cooking. I have cooked whole chickens , country and baby back Ribs so easy and so good,

Easy to attach and excellent Smoking ability

Easy to assemble. Attached to my bbq as a,fire box. The first time i used it the black paint blistered and came off.

I purchased this grill/smoker for a Thanksgiving Turkey (breast). I added a thermostat myself. It is well made, uses solid material and I expect it last many years. Heat can be controlled and it's size make it easy to travel with. I will be using it this year in Yosemite at Thanksgiving. Assembly is not difficult but does take 30 to 40 minutes. Directions suggest/require the cast iron grill to be seasoned.

Paint bubbles up and falls off after one use

Used the Side fire box only once while smoking brisket and the paint has peeled off and started to rust already.

When used as an attachment firebox for the larger Char-Griller product in a Smoker configuration the paint doesn't hold up at all to the heat generated by open flame. In addition the spacers were way too short and I had to go purchase longer ones.
