DeWalt Atomic Max Oscillating Multi-Tool
I never had/used a multi-tool before this week, when I had to open up the back of my kitchen cabinet wall under the sink. It was a tight area to work in, but my son suggested I get a multi-tool. Made cutting in that tight space a breeze! Thought back about all the projects this would have helped on, instead of using a jig saw or plunging a circular saw. I chose DeWalt because that's what all my tools are, and I have always been extremely happy with the quality & durability. Highly recommend!

solid little ergonomic multi
I received this multi tool in an Atomic package deal. This is the only tool I choose not replace with a Milwaukee Fuel tool, because it does exactly what a multi tool should do & not compromising speed. My partner and I were installing lighting fixtures and had to trim out the acoustic fiberglass ceiling panels. His arms were tired after using his fat Makita, meanwhile I was good to go for more with this super light DeWalt Atomic.

Great Sander
Have used this alot and does a great job. Pros and cons to having it battery operated. I like the flexabilty of not messing around with a power cord, but I go through batterys really quickly... I dont know if the sander drains the battery really quickly or if i need to buy new batterys! I like the setting to change power output from low to more powerful.

Be careful when purchasing this battery. I purchased with the Dewalt DCD791P1 (Brushless XR 20v drill/driver). This battery was listed on HD's site as option. The battery has the same model number as the battery that came with the drill, but did not seat properly on the charger and lock in place. The pin design on this battery was different than the battery that came with the drill. It would not charge at all because the design differences. Date codes on both drill battery and this battery were both 2020. The drill battery has a set of 6 independent slots for the pins in the middle (picture). The battery that HD had for this one has 5 taller slots like the 2 outer ones in my picture. Another indicator is the black piece in the grooved area. Battery supplied with drill is as shown, but the battery I received was all yellow.

This will be a handy tool to own.
I had $150 worth of Home Depot gift cards from last Christmas and my birthday in May (my family knows what to get me). I held off using them until I figured out what I really wanted. I decided to spend them on this DeWalt oscillating tool as I will be helping my son renovate a 1930s house this fall/winter and I know sometimes there are oddball times when we'll need something like this. I liked that it was brushless, which should save on battery life and that you don't need a special tool to change blades. I already had 2 batteries for my DeWalt cordless drill, so I saved some money buying the tool only. It came with 2 blades, a bi-metal blade and an HSC blade (?) apparently good for wood. I wanted to repair the brick moulding trim on my garage door by cutting out the rotten area and cutting a new piece to fit instead of replacing the whole piece. So I cut out the bottom 10" with this oscillating tool without removing the trim on each side of the door (see photo). It cut right thru and it was nice to be able to control the speed with the trigger. It has a lot of power if you really squeeze the trigger! It was easy to control, too, and I got a nice clean even cut along my pencil line. The only neg I had was that the handle that you squeeze to change the blade is right where you want to hold onto the tool to make your cut. This might cause problems (broken blade maybe?) if you accidentally squeeze it too hard while you're cutting. I realized what I was doing and put my hand beneath the lever after that. Just something to be aware of. Maybe DeWalt could possibly come up with another way to keep the release out of the way when you're using the tool. All in all, though, despite its cost, I think I have added a good tool to my arsenal.

SUPER TOOL
I use this oscillating tool for everything! It's light, doesn't use too much battery, and is easy to use. The only con is that you will wear through blades pretty quickly so buy extra. I love this tool though and am kicking myself for not getting one sooner.

The Walt pulls it out of the hat!!!
"20volt Magic" is what they should call this puppy. Tyler said the corded version would work better, but then he tripped over the cord. So, battery power it is.
I use this to sand down small projects around the house and even have a photo to show some of the work it does. Not bad and yes it even hammers in the nails. Good multi-tool and no cords to trip you up. Also works great with other lithium batteries from the Walt.
The dust bag is really small tho and doesn't hold a lot. So I just take it off and complain to myself about how much saw dust there is.

I just got my Atomic oscilating tool 2 days early from estimated. Which is great. A little dissapointed with the spec’s section however. OPM under spec’s saids “ 0-20,000 OPM. When i check it in the actual tool its only 0-18,000. Something like that wouldnof made me switch it up and just go for the XR. Reguardless the tool is still brushless. I will see how it does out in the field....Dewalt always 5 stars. Home Depot, ya get 4 stars. Still love yall tho.

Atomic 20 Volt MAX Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless Oscillating Tool
I found changing the blades on this 20 Volt Max Compact Series Atomic Oscillating Tool to be very simple and quick. With just a squeeze of the lever I was able to quickly insert a blade without any additional tools. It is so much easier than an older model that I have by a different manufacturer. I then used the oscillating tool to trim a Locust Tree log that I was making into a garden sign. The angle cut was originally cut using a chain saw which left a large bur that had to be trimmed off. The DeWalt tool cut through the Locust wood easily and was able to match the angle perfectly. The tool had plenty of power and being cordless made it very convenient. No need for an extension cord or outlet. (Bring the tool to the work piece instead of the work piece to the tool.)
There is nothing about this tool that I did not like. I would highly recommend this tool to anyone looking for a high quality oscillating tool.

I am not familiar with the oscillating tools but have an idea how they work and have seen others use them. I carefully read the instructions for this one and they seemed clear, well written and well illustrated. There is a clever clamping mechanism to hold the bit, blade, accessory or.attachment you're using. I think this clamping mechanism is exclusive to DeWalt. I think on other oscillating tools the blade must be mounted on an arbor. This also includes a screw and clamping washer for use with blades from other companies. It is surprisingly light and the brushless motor minimizes the vibration transferred to your hand when using it. DeWalt is a quality brand used by the pros and you'll take pleasure using them as a hobbyist or DIYer. Because working on your own house feels good.
Careful reading of the instructions might make one think a depth guide and cutting guide is included but some research revealed that quite a few other people also wondered why it is "missing". The answer is that it is not included when purchasing "tool-only". If you buy the kit with batteries, charger and case, I think it is included. Some more research shows if you want the depth and cutting guide there are three separate parts you can purchase, singly for about $30. If you want a depth gauge put a piece of tape on the blade at the depth you desire.

I love these types of tools I now have three of them. My first one was real cheap and my second one is a very nice one but it's corded. I like cordless tools. I am trying to as much cordless as possible. So I got this Dewalt it is really nice a friend of mine has one and I have used his many times and really liked it. So when I had the chance to get one I jumped on it. I don't have a battery or charger yet but on job sites there is always a dewalt battery I can use. has an led light. Comes with 2 blades and instruction book. Great tool I highly recommend it.

The familiar yellow and black tool is distinguish as one of the best in the power tool industry. This is the trademark for DeWalt power tools and accessories. DeWalt is known to make commercial grade tools to stand up to the toughest jobs. This is the new DeWalt ATOMIC compact series. This oscillating tool is one of the most versatile saws ever developed. It truly is a multi-use saw especially when used in tight quarters. I use the oscillating multi-tool for a number of reasons, but two of the best uses is cutting on the base of door frames allowing for perfect fit when installing laminate flooring or ceramic tile for a professional look. No need for the cumbersome flush cut saw. The other is repairing soffit at corners where rain gutters leak and rotten the soffit. You just can't get a circular saw to cut exactly. The oscillating saw utilizes a 20 volt lithium ion battery which does not come with the tool. Comes with a built-in LED light for illuminating the work area. The new Atomic series boosts a brushless motor, a tool free blade change, comes with a universal adapter to adapt for non-DeWalt cutting blades. Comes with two cutting Dewalt blades a bi-metal cutting blade and a wood cutting blade.Has a 3 year limited warranty. Dewalt will maintain the tool and replace parts caused by normal use, anytime during the first year of purchase. Has a 90 day money-back guarantee if your not happy with the tool. Dewalt's backs their tools stating "GUARANTEED TOUGH" nothing can be farther from the truth. I'm a professional at my trade and I use the only professional tools that I recognize ............... DeWalt.

This rotary tool is a really nice quality. I have many Dewalt power tools and have never been disappointed in their performance and durability. I have used it for many things like facing off shims, trimming drywall and even cutting a small section of a 2x4 so I did not have to set up my table saw. The best feature by far is the variable speeds which helps when cutting variable thicknesses.
Been wanting this since it came out. Finally got it and glad i did. I mainly make stuff for my kids out of wood. Wagons, signs for their walls, their names, toys, team logos etc etc. This makes it so easy to just whip out and sand away. Has plenty of power and uses 8 hole orbital sandpaper. I bought the bare tool for 119.99. Comes with nice dust catcher that easily goes on and off.Has variable speed which is nice. Happy i picked it up. Grab one you wont be disapointed

I love this new cordless sander. As a woodworker and weekend carpenter I have used my fair share of different Sanders and dewalt has always produced quality products. This sander is no exception. It has plenty of power and the fact that it is cordless makes it a powerful weapon in my tool arsenal. The only drawback I have with this product is its ergonomics. My previous dewalt palm Sanders fit the hand very well and are comfortable in multiple handling positions. This sander however is a little on the heavy side (even without the battery) and it is larger than dewalts previous palm Sanders. This makes for an awkward fit in the hand in comparison to other models. I'm sure that with time I will adjust to its size. Overall it's a great product, worth every penny!

This is the best cordless sander on the market
This sander is extremely well balanced and has power. It has a variable speed option which is really nice to have it also has a brake built in that stops the sanding pad extremely fast that way as soon as you set it down it wont take off on you. The only thing I do not like about this sander is that if you want to hook this up to your shop vac you will need to buy a special dewalt adaptor that allows you to do so.

Highly recommended
A genuine game changer. This has essentially the same power as the corded version (with speed adjustment) but no cord. Seems like a simple difference but this will be the one you reach for every time. I have a dozen handheld power sanders but this is the one I keep in my truck, for wherever I go. I couldn't be happier with a sander, and I could not recommend this more highly.

We do lots of woodworking DIY and also build items (ie Wine Carriers) for sale. We have made the decision to invest in cordless replacement tools as that is definitely the way of the future woodworker. This is far better than any of the corded models we have , it lasts forever, even on hard woods and plastics and it is so easy because you are not fighting the cord. You don't have to take your project to the electrical outlets for these tools, just take the tools to the projects. Try just one and you will be amazed at how well they work. We are saving to buy the cordless router and will let you know how that works also.

this sander is FANTASTIC !. I have been looking for this for the past two years. I am tired of tripping over electrical cords. I saw this in the store ad on Oct. 31, and waited in line while they unpacked them, and bought one !.
It is well balanced. for the best balance, i recommend the 2AH battery. it will handle the larger batteries, but is slightly off-balance for me with them, and heavier. That is not a FAULT of the machine, htat is just because of battery weight. so I bought a couple 2AH batteries on sale, and i use these for my one-handed dewalt tools - the cordless nailer, the orbital sander, and the brushless drill, make it easier to operate.
actually the 2AH battery lasts for a while; for longer sanding, the bigger batteries are fine.
it sands very well.
the power switch is easy-on easy-off (prior cordless one was harder to operate, under the rubber protector.
The BATTERY slot is a cool design, it has a rubber gasket in it to prevent dust from entering the contacts.
i adapted my shop vacuum system to this.
1 1/4 x 1 1/4 flexible pvc coupling, FENCO, home depot model P1056-125 plumbing adapter fits onto this unit very nicely. it ALSO fits onto the dewalt 7 1/4 inch circular saw dust collector port;, AND it fits (loosely) onto the dewalt biscuit cutter. for the Biscuit cutter, you can add material to the tool port, small rubber overlay, or something, electrical tape wound around, to build it up, and then this adapter fits perfectly. THEN, you can take the other end of this adapter, and fit it onto any of your dust collection hoses, make custom size adapters, etc.
the dust bag attaches Ok, and is fair at collecting dust; same as other corded/cordless uints, but an attached vacuum is much better.
variable speed works very well. Power is more than adequate.
the finish (with 220 grit) is very smooth
even with a dust collection tube on it (I use 1 1/2 inch sump pump tubing, about 6 feet, and this connects to my actual vacuum tube. This sump tubing is very flexible, allows easy mobility of the sander while working.
this same tubing can be slipped onto your dewalt portable vacuum; you can come up with some type of flexible adaptation to match the tubes
overall VERY nice, and very flexible ! Dewalt, you did a great job !
