I just used these to build some stairs for our porch. They went in easily without pilot holes. They didn't split the wood. They have a nice tight grip on the wood.

DECKMATE SCREWS SNAP IN HALF
NOTHING LIKE OLD FASHIONED NAILS...THESE SCREWS WILL SNAP IN HALF IF YOU TORQUE THEM TOO MUCH. OR, OVER TIME, THEY WILL JUST SNAP IN HALF DUE TO AGE. I HAVE 6 SCREWS THAT HAVE SNAPPED THUS FAR. ONE SCREW CAME NOT THREADED, AND SEVERAL CAME WITH BAD HAD...TORX WOULD NOT FIT IN HEAD. HOW DOES ONE GET THE LIFETIME WARRANTLY ON THESE SCREWS? THAT IS ANOTHER BURDEN
