Our shower walls are indeed designed to be installed over wallboard, as advertised. Only the shower base is intended for direct-to-stud installation. This is necessary to provide the required support and stability for the walls.

We apologize for any confusion in the product description. The QWALL acrylic backwalls that come with this kit are designed to be trimmed to fit your opening before they are glued to backer board. Thank you for your feedback. The DreamLine SlimLine shower base that you purchased is designed to work with a DreamLine Shower Door and is more than high enough to work with our doors. There should be a DreamLine sticker on the inside of the shower base, facing the inside of your shower. From what you describe, you may want to check with your contractor to make sure the correct type of adhesive was used to install the walls. There are very specific adhesives that must be used for the installation of the QWALL backwall products. If the adhesive that was used does not specifically state it is safe for use on acrylic/ABS, it is likely not going to stick and could cause chemical "burn through" damage to the panels.
