Hi there - We apologize for the inconvenience you've encountered with your dishwasher. We understand the importance of a reliable appliance, especially for your family. Please know that your dishwasher tub is wrapped in bitumen. Bitumen is a combination of asphalt and rubber that is heat-bonded to the door and/or sides of the stainless-steel tub/door. This heat-bonded application reduces noise vibration on the tub and is one of the best sound deadening materials used not only in dishwashers but, in cars, roofing, and flooring materials. This should not cause any odors inside the unit; however, it is normal for a new dishwasher to have odors. The processes used during manufacturing often may leave a "newness" odor that may not dissipate until after several washing cycles. This condition is completely normal. You can alleviate this condition by running the dishwasher through several cycles using detergent. If the odors do not go away, please take advantage of your warranty once more by calling our GE Appliances Consumer Service at 1-800-432-2737. Your feedback means a lot to us and we're more than glad to provide some clarity. This unit has what we call a condensate dry feature. This means that while the dishes are hot, condensation forms on the tub walls, providing natural air-drying of the dish load. We recommend referring to the troubleshooting tips on page 17 of the owner's manual (Dishes don't dry) for guidance. However, we are happy to hear that the dishwasher is quiet during operation. Odors associated with new appliances are normal. The processes used during manufacturing often may leave a "newness" odor that may not dissipate until after several washing cycles. This condition is completely normal. You can alleviate this condition by running the dishwasher through several cycles using detergent. A dishwasher will not normally retain odors.
