Nice heavy duty set. This thing feels very sturdy and the set is nicely done. Plenty of options with a nice swivel bit in there too. I like how it comes with both shallow sockets and deep well sockets and the fact that they are all in one set. When you have two sets things can become a little unmanageable but not here. The case, considering the size of the sockets that are being held, could be a little more sturdy but in the end, it does what it needs to do and it does it well. Again, nice set and highly recommend.

The Gear Wrench 1/2 in. Drive 6-Point Socket Set (49-Piece) is great. It is the most complete I/2 inch 6 point socket set I own. It enables me to work on bigger projects that have larger diameter nuts and bolts such as working on my travel trailer. The off corner loading really helps in reducing rounding of nuts and bolts being worked on. It is easier to work with in tight corners. I have owned this set for a very short time and find it easy to work with.

As the name implies, this socket set is meant for gear heads - folks who work on their cars. Although great for advanced DIYers too, this is probably not the set for the average weekend warrior. The pieces are beautiful, heavy duty and well manufactured. The wrench/ratchet is solid and well balanced. They have included a nice selection of sockets - half metric and half SAE. Half of each are deep sockets. They also include two sizes of extenders and a wobble coupling. My only complaint is that the case doesn't have a handle. The set is relatively heavy, and a handle on the case would make it a lot easier to tote around. Perhaps their thought is that the set will be in mechanics tool chest and not carrier around. Overall, I'm very impressed with these tools and would recommend to gear heads or advanced DIYers that just love their tools.

Extremely nice set of 6 point 1/2 inch drive sockets. Metric and SAE sockets are included. Deep well as well as standard sockets. One swivel and 2 extensions included. Very nice case with all the sizes marked. Metric are gnarled on the bottom to help identify. Ratchet is fine tooth for resetting in tight places. Cannot say enough about this excellent set. Lifetime warranty.

As always, I am really impressed by the quality and craftsmanship of GearWrench products. This set comes in a heavy duty molded plastic case for durable storage. As shown in the pictures, each piece has its own designated storage position clearly marked with the size for both metric and SAE sockets. This set contains both deep well and shallow well sockets. Also included is a very nice ratchet that has a 3 inch and 5 inch extension bar and a half inch drive universal joint. Very well made and durable out of polished chrome. This ratchet set is built with the quality that will ensure it lasts for many years. This is going in my tool box along with my other GearWrench sets! I truly believe these to be top of the line tools.

Gearwrench 1/2 inch 6 point socket set is a very nice socket set metric and standard with all the basic tools you need in a socket set. I never realized that it makes a difference in in how many teeth or points in the ratchet this set comes with 84 points and it rotates better in tight places and this dose make a difference. The 6 point sockets are a must. you will not be disappointed in this 49 piece set. VERY GOOD QUALITY.

I'm becoming more familiar with the GEARWRENCH company and the first thing I've discovered is these folks do not make toys - they make industrial strength, heavy duty TOOLS! This half-inch drive socket set is no exception. Let's start with the impressive array of good sized sockets from 7/16th inch to 1 1/8th inch and 10mm to 24 mm. Those sizes show you this is not a small socket set, which is to be expected in a half inch drive collection. The GEARWRENCH people also were thoughtful enough to supply a hefty selection of deep well sockets from 1/2 to 15/16ths and 10mm to 19mm. All these sockets are designed with off-center loading which helps keep your nuts and bolts true to form. I've cranked a few of these up and I can attest these is a great idea for socket design. For your job convenience, they include a swivel and a couple extenders... just to make the job you're doing easier to do. When it comes right down to it, a socket set usually is only as good as the drive itself and here is where this GEARWRENCH product shines even brighter both figuratively and literally. This is a highly polished, professional grade 1/2 drive that is thin enough to get to the job and thick enough to fit really nice in your hand. You can crank this one up and it will not fail on you. To top it all off, they even included a heavy duty plastic case for the entire set. It's a great set sure to please any homeowner or even professionals.

I got this set yesterday and just took a few pictures and tried it on a lug nut of my car. First the plusses. All the pieces seem well finished and the surfaces are smooth for easy cleaning. I like the fact that the sockets are all six point since that minimizes the chance of rounding over a fastener. It is also a reasonably complete set with a short extension, wobble joint, and both SAE and Metric sockets in both regular and deep length. But I question the sizes provided. There is a 7/16 and a 10mm socket. I think those are too small for a 1/2 drive set. I would have much rather they skip everything below 5/8 or so and put in a few larger sockets - even if the piece count went down. I also would like the size engraving to be deeper for easier identification. It seems the "Gearwrench" is deeper than the size and I think that should be reversed. But it is a nice set of sockets and a ratchet. Worked fine on my lug nut (which had been torqued to about 90 ft lbs).

This is a nice ratchet set. The gearing allows for a reallly small ratcheting movement which is great when working in tight spaces where it is difficult to turn a wide radius. You only need turn a few degrees to engage a new tooth. The makings on the tools are large and easy to read, which I appreciate. My only complaint is the storage box. The sockets do no clip in and the plastic of the lid is flexible. All this means that is you carry on its side like a briefcase, the sockets spill out and when you open it, the sockets are a mess.

The set meets me needs and worked as expected.

Got the set & have used it a couple times with no problems. It seems durable & well made. I expect it to last for many more projects

Excellent quality sockets built to last. Used this set this week to do a complete tune up on my lawn tractor including mower blades. Bolts on the blades can be tough from all the wear and tare. These sockets gripped the bolts and made short work of getting them out. Very nice design to prevent or at least lessen the rounding off of nuts and bolts. 2 different ratchets with fine gears are perfect.

What an excellent value. This tool set comes with a ton of sockets, both metric and SAE. Even better, you get a variety of deep and shallow sockets to handle a wide range of nuts and bolts. The ratchet mechanism is fine-toothed which I love; in tight places with little wiggle room that can make a big difference. The hardware appears to be of excellent quality. My only criticism is that the case that it comes with doesn't fit tight enough over the sockets to keep them from getting loose inside of the case. I will fix that by cutting a sheet of foam rubber to stick inside of the case.

This is a good socket set. The ratchets are smooth moving and feel sturdy in your hand when turning. The only improvement would be a quick release to the ratchets, so the sockets would come off easier when changing out sockets. The sockets have large numbering on them for quick visual selection. The plastic case seems durable, but only time will tell on the plastic latches. It's a good buy.

I like this set. The larger of the two ratchets is longer which gives more leverage. Many times this is important. I also like the Surface Drive Technology. Removing and tightening a bolt and nut repeatedly wears them out. Ii have notice a difference in the longevity of lifespan of nuts and bolts. This saves me money on replacement as I do not have to replace bolts as often. The ratchet seems very tight which always seems to be the first part to fail with socket sets. Time will tell. Good product.

Great little socket set. It has every conceivable size to get things done! It comes with an extender and its own case too. I would suggest laying a thin piece of bubble wrap (the packing kind) in the inside of the case to prevent them from rolling around inside the case. It is a firm fit and that way nothing will move around in there. I like this set. I have already used it to change the oil on my lawn mower. So much easier than a wrench! Nice addition to my collection of multiple tool set sets.

Very nice set of tools for a DIY handyman or professional. I really like the fact that all the sockets are 6 point sockets. It comes with a 6 inch and a 3 inch extension and a universal to get into those hard reach spots. I really like the short stubby ratchet as it makes getting into smaller places much easier. My only complaint is that the lid does not capture the sockets and ratchets very well. Each time I shook the case the sockets would fall out of place. I fixed that with a piece of ½ inch foam cut to size and laid over the tools before closing

-- For a basic socket set, this one is pretty complete. 57 pieces. First impression is how good the chrome looks. The heft of the items is good and I really like the feel of the handles. They have a scalloped knob like tip which seems to guide your hand to a spot to put your hand, while most handles are straight back. It would be nicer to have a quick release button, but that might mean a thicker head—so there you go. It has a full set of standard sizes of ¼” to 1” SAE and 6mm to 19mm metric. Deep sockets are similar but with the two largest SAE not included. Also with the set is the 3” and 6” extension and a U-joint. The sockets are visibly different as the metric has ribs around the sides. The only negative here is the size stamping is barely visible and takes some sharp eyeballing. If you’re just using one or two sizes during a job, you won’t be looking at the stamping anyway. A couple of things one might not notice at first. The 3” is not tiny like a typical ¼” socket, but the same head as the larger 6” save for the handle. This means more strength plus that you can use all the same sockets the larger handle uses. Also, the advantage to a 6-point socket is less chance of rounding a bolt and even this has lessened that by the specially rounded corners such that there is more positive metal angle to metal contact between the socket and the bolt. While a 12-point is preferred since it has more choice of placement of the socket in a tight space, the 84 tooth gear gives closer moves per “click” and therefor makes this 6-point the best of both—strength and precision. There is one letdown, sorry to say. The case is not so well designed for carrying around. Parts inside bounce all around. This can be helped by putting a shop rag inside to give cushion when closed. That’s what I’ve been doing for 40 years with my old Craftsman set! The numbers on the box are hard to read, but if you touch them with some white paint, you can see the slots more easily. And no handle. A strap or Velcro strip can be useful here. Just these few mods and you’re all set for your 40 years. --

GREAT SET for USING in TIGHT SPACES — The Gearwrench 3/8 in. Drive 6-Point Ratchet and SAE/Metric Socket Set (57-Piece) is a high quality ratchet set with many advantages and a few disadvantages. The ratchets are 1/4" thinner than my previous set and have 84 teeth which allow turns when only 4.3 degrees of space are available. That is a significant plus when needed. The set has a large number of sockets. It includes 1/4-inch to 1-inch standard sockets,1/4-inch to 7/8-inch deep sockets, 6mm-to-19 mm standard and deep sockets. It also includes a universal joint. The sockets are 6 point with off-corner loading to minimize fastener rounding. The sockets have hard stamped engraving. I like that the SAE and metric sockets have different markings on the base so that is easy at a glance to tell what type of socket it is. The case is well designed for the deep sockets in that each socket has its own unique space so it is easy to get the sockets organized, but not so for the short sockets. The biggest disadvantage is that the ratchets do not have quick release. Other disadvantages are that the set does not include spark plug sockets nor does the case have a handle for easy carrying. The set has a lifetime warranty. The box does not say where it is made so I assume then that it was made in the USA.

I like gearwrench, although made in China, because the "cost" to "quality of product" ratio is the biggest reason for my loyalty. Sure, there is probably a better quality product out there, but u would end up paying twice or three times more. Better than "good enough" yet not the best.
