Renovating/updating this space and bought one of these to test it out. It was expensive and other, less expensive options are available. Additional patching will be needed to make this light work (before painting) but easy to install and light has adjustable settings including a very bright setting which we have chosen for now. Changing light setting requires removing light.

I love these lights. They are easy to install, have plenty of light color options and so far have lasted years without an issue. They are a little pricier than some options, but come with better LEDs and have integrated clamps to hold the Romex in place. They can also be easily removed if needed, just watch your fingers for when the spring clips go to snap closed.

Works as described and easy to install. Haven’t had it long enough to give it an excellent rating.

You need a good hole cutter as tolerances are close for the trim. Easy wire termination, j-box install and fix mounting. Having light color selection is a big plus.

Replaced a dim fan/light combo with three of these in our 5x9 foot bathroom and they are a game changer. Light output is excellent. They have a nice wide light pattern so it doesn’t feel like a spotlight. Dimming is nice and quiet. Light temperature adjustment is terrific to let us get the feel we want. We have ours set to 3000K. Easy to install. Wafer thin meant we could placed them where we wanted without worrying about hitting joists. Very happy with this upgrade!

As others have said these make a loud popping noise when turning on and turning off they install easily enough and the light is very bright, but the popping noise is very annoying and I wish I had purchased another brand. It’s not the wiring it’s the lighting element and the housing unit making the noise when it heats up and cools down. Ranch home with attic above with insulation and a gap for these so it shouldn’t happen. Bad product design.

Installed 25 of these in my basement using Halo frames. Installation was easy. No junction box was necessary since a junction box comes with the lights. Works well with a Lutron dimmer.

I love this light. Canless, LED, super slim, quick connect wiring, and I can even install it directly under a joist. Plus it looks great and it has selectable color temp. Its perfect for adding or relocating light in any room.

The good: they’re very thin and easily fit flush with 1/2” drywall even with a ceiling joist over the hole. They install super quickly and easily, work perfectly with dimmers, etc. The bad: the trim ring on these lights is very small. They also make a loud “pop” when turned on or off, or when the room temp. changes. It happens even with the lights powered off, so it’s not an electrical issue but related to temperature. I ended up replacing them with a different brand that doesn’t pop.

I found these to be easy to install in a Hardie Plank patio ceiling. Drilling the holes was a bit messy. At first I tried to use the screw on handles for mounting, but those screws pop out too easily. That is the reason for 4 stars. I gave up on the mounting wings and used the two internal holes instead and that worked fine. Be careful when removing them, the spring loaded tabs will snap your fingers once they clear the hole. They provide a lot of light and good clearance for a low ceiling patio.

These are awesome lights. Very well-made much better than the other garbage that they sell. You can select different light temperatures. You can have a traditional amber looking incandescent lock or you can switch it all the way up to a very bright white 5000 K hospital operating room color.

These are great! Very easy to install and love the option to change the light temp. These were recommended by an interior design blogger ChrisLovesJulia and they did not disappoint. We installed new lights in the living room and the. Went back for more to replace older can lights in the kitchen.

Easy to install, however the Commercial Electric model from HD is much brighter. Both are the same lumes. I removed this and repaced with a Commerial Electric model.

Fantastic for a small room such as a laundry room or a utility room. The compact feature makes a great. Within the box you get the light fixture and the junction box which can be connected to any existing wiring. If you’re not comfortable with electricity please make sure to reach out to a licensed electrician. Overall great product. I love the clamps that allow you to drill a hole and not worry about electrical boxes. The fixture comes with 5 different lighting options which is great if you have a lot of other light bulbs and just want to add this small fixture.

I selected this to add some light to a room with a drop ceiling because the light fixture is lightweight and self supporting and the connection box is separate and can be attached to the side of a joist. The light is very compact - just 3 5/8" diameter, requiring a hole of 3 1/4" and is attached to the connection box with a cable that is approx 16" long. The connection box is also compact at 6.5" x 2.87" x 1.25" and can be slipped through the hole in the ceiling and attached to a support member using the included bracket. Its compact size means it can be used for a retrofit on a finished ceiling BUT you will either need to connect the supply cable to the box after passing it through the 3 1/4" hole you made in the ceiling (which is very fiddly considering the size of the hole) or connect the cable to the box and bend it flat enough against the side of the box that you can slip the connection box through the hole (which is barely bigger than the box). Either way, you will not be able to anchor the connection box if installing this as a retrofit unless you have access above the ceiling, which is not necessarily a big deal as long as the cable is securely anchored somewhere close to where you are installing the light. None of this is an issue on a new install/remodel because you can install the box prior to installing the drywall. Setting the light color is easy enough using the selector on the side of the connection box, but you will want to set the color before installing the box on the ceiling by connecting it to the supply and the light and testing the light in the install location since it will be a lot harder to change once the light is installed. The light also claims to be airtight but there is no gasket around the underside of the light bezel and although the springs will hold it firmly against drywall, this does not seem like it would suffice to form a seal on a textured ceiling. You might therefore want to add a ring of thin foam if you are installing this on a ceiling below unconditioned space so you don't have warm air going out or dirt marks forming around the light from air coming in. For instance there is no light in the middle of the kitchen/dining room. We use ZOOM and the one light we have casts shadows on us. The Halo LED light has a lot of features that make it super easy to install. Unlike other lights, this has a very small profile junction box and it is separate from the light making it even easier. Only requires a 3-1/4" hole to mount both the junction box and the LED light in the ceiling. The push-in-connectors allowed me to just stab the wire in, no wire nuts or tape. See photos. I connected my new light to an existing light over the sink, through the ceiling. This LED light is wet location rated which means it can be used in a wet areas like the bathroom and kitchens. I didn't realize I could choose the color temperature by toggling a switch on the lamp. I want as much light as I can get so I selected "daylight". I forgot to mention that in a modular home, they blow in insulation which makes it next to impossible to use other recessed lights but Halo is IC rated, for direct contact with insulation. The Future of Ceiling Lighting ... and a great example! Interesting thing here, this one is smaller than most. The HandyManiacs have been installing 4" LEDs and 6" LEDs ... but a 3" version is unusual and very much appreciated. There are hallways and bathrooms where a smaller version is looks great. Of course, a tunable light is really a nice feature. These are great.

I have used Halo products for years. These new canless LED lights without a housing or a j-box are awesome. Super easy to install and with such a minimal footprint you can pretty much install them anywhere. The spring loaded tabs hold the light securely. This 3 inch light only needs a 1/2 inch for the depth. The light has five temperature controls which are easy to adjust with the switch.

This integrated LED recessed light does not need a housing or junction box. Because of very small thickness, it can be installed in places with very limited clearance. A switch on the light can be used to change the color temperature, ranging from very warm to daylight. This has to be done before it is put into the final location. The LED driver is in a box. The driver is compatible with dimmers. This light is bright and shines evenly on a large area. Since it is made to withstand moisture, it can be used in places such as a bathroom with no problem.

Having purchased and installed a number of ultra-thin canless recessed LED lights in a variety of sizes and brands, this light by Halo is by far the highest quality I have seen so far. While the other brands are functionally equivalent, the J-Box on this downlight is well-designed and made out of metal, and features quick connectors that eliminate the need for wire nuts. The LEDs feature heavy spring clips to hold the installed light firmly in place. The spring clips adjust automatically to hold the fixture in a ceiling, ceiling tile, or wall from 1/16-inch to 1-1/14-inch thick. This fixture, and especially the J-Box, is heavier weight than others I have installed, so if installing in a very thin suspended ceiling tile rather than a thick mineral fiber ceiling tile, you will likely need to mount the J-Box to a nearby joist, rather than to place the unsecured box on top of the ceiling tile. A mounting bracket and a couple of small screws, which use is optional, are included. Each quick connector will accept up to 3 additional wires (no larger than 12 gauge), which is sufficient for any wiring situation. The knock-outs for electrical wiring being on the narrow end of the box, rather than on the long end as many other J-Boxes are manufactures, makes for a much easier install, especially when installing these 3-inch lights and J-Box that narrowly fit into a 3-inch hole cutout. 3-inches refers to the size hole needed to mount the fixture. The lamp or lens measures 2-3/16-inch while the fixture is 3-5/8-inches in diameter (from one side of the bezel trim ring to the other). Since the cutout needs to be fairly precise, and there isn’t much margin for error, I would recommend using a 3-inch hole saw to make the cuts rather than a keyhole type saw which can tear at the drywall. Also, wire cable connectors are not included, so you’ll need to purchase those separately. You can use any 3/8-inch non-metal or nylon push-in type cable connector. You can purchase a hole saw and cable connectors at The Home Depot. The included multilingual instructions are detailed, and provide information for installing round and square lights in 3, 4 and 6 inch sizes. This particular light features a selectable switch to change the color from a yellowish 2700k all the way up to a bright white 5000k, to match existing lighting, and is also dimmable. The product description says these lights are for new construction, but you can certainly use these lights in existing old work construction, so long as you can get power to the fixture, such as tapping off a nearby existing lighting fixture. From there, you can run as many lights as you want or need, looping in and out of each J-Box. Since each light only uses 8.6 watts to produce the output of a 60 watt light bulb, you can install dozens of these lights on a single circuit. Price wise, these Halo lights are more costly than other 3-inch ultra-thin LED downlights, but the quality of these lights is better than the lower price brands, and these lights feature a selectable color, which you realistically will set once and probably never change, but the option to change the color in the future is there if you have the need to change it. All things considered, this is a very nice ultra-thin LED light fixture and I highly recommend it.

Halo HLB3059FS1EMWR Ultra Thin Down light 3 inch Direct Ceiling Mount. This light fixture does not require a traditional light can. It is designed to be direct mounted in the ceiling and comes with beefy spring arms with rubber coated tips to help hold the fixture in place. This down light comes with five color presets 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K, and 5000K. This light is easy to install in Sheetrock or other materials with a 3.25 inch diameter opening. The driver unit comes with a mounting bracket and is tethered to the light with a screw coupling connector for ease of installation. This is a nice recessed LED light kit where you do not need can installed. The product is built well. The parts are mostly preassembled. There's a wall bracket and two screws along with the assembled lighting unit and electronic housing unit, so all you need to do is cut a hole in the ceiling, punch a hole out of the electronic housing, connect wires through the punch out, lock the romex wire with a wire clamp, attach the electronic housing to the bracket, attach the bracket to a ceiling stud, and insert the lighting unit into the hole. There is a switch on the electronic bracket to adjust the color of the light. You cannot use this in an existing can; there are other light kits that can do that. The diameter of the lighting unit is 3.5 inches and the LED light is around 2 1/8" wide. Installation is easy and the wires are inserted into a plastic wire connector instead of using wire caps. You can see through the clear plastic to ensure the wire is inserted deep enough. The entire unit has a low profile so you can install it into dropped ceiling sections. Looks great. Illumination is good. My expectations have been met.

These lights are so easy to install and look amazing. Very modern. We installed 8 lights in my 250 sq ft basement which is overkill but ultimately more aesthetically pleasing. On the larger side we could have gotten away with 4 or even 3 vs the 6 we installed but I ran them all to a dimmer switch and have absolutely no regrets. On the smaller side we installed 2 which I find to be perfect for the space. Absolutely beautiful lights and would 200% buy again.

I being an electrician have installed thousands in past. It’s amazing in all senses “but” I am sensing it is losing quality “somewhere it was” when it was launched. Still it’s too good. 5 stars..

Very easy lights to install. The enclosed template is exact size and the wiring is push in connectors. The light choices between daylight etc. are very dramatic.

This is the 3rd light this has happened to. Home Depot has been great about replacing them, but this is getting old. Since installing them 6 months ago, the tabs randomly break and they fall out.

Installed twelve Halo 4” LED lights in way of the soffit area. Very easy to install. Springs hold the light firmly against the vinyl soffit. Had to remove them in order to change the light output from 5000K to 3000K. The lights are easily removable and easily returned to their original position. Lights can be daisy chained to expedite installation. If installing in way of vinyl soffit I would recommend using an oscillating saw to cut the mounting hole.

Installs easily and casts good light with a nice spectral balance. The only shortcoming compared to a can is that the light source is not recessed, so a bit bright when looked towards directly.
