I recently got this fan about a week ago and I just love it so much. I have always liked the design of an Original, it never goes out of date. It's very quiet, moves a ton of air and you can just feel the quality built in the fan. I love that the blade arms are now cast iron to match the motor housing material. I also just really like this new motor tag. When I saw photos of this fan I wasn't too intrigued with the blade color but let me tell you that it looks better in person. I still think the light gray oak side is the worse of the two, only because I feel like the blades should give contrast to the fan. But over all I love this fan, I love how modular it can be and I just love how robust and high quality it feels. If you are thinking abut buying this fan or any Hunter Original, I encourage you to do it. It will last you a life time and you wont be disappointed.

Product comes with fan blades that fail to maintain their appearance as the laminate covering them becomes loose over time. (2.5 years in my case) Manufacturer warranty for blades is only good for one year. Reordering blades is difficult to impossible as they must be installed with brand new grommets, as the rubber grommets needed pulverize and cannot be reused. Manufacturer will not ship blades and grommets together as they may not be simultaneously available for reordering. Also, expect to pay for shipping for both blades and grommets.

Hunter never fails to meet my expectations. Replaced a Hunter fan I already had with this one, because this fan is just that solid. The fit and finish, performance, and aesthetic of this fan are nothing short of sublime. I have no doubt this unit will last me decades.

So, my 40 year old original Hunter fan bit the dust a few weeks ago. The main reason I decided to spend $500 for a new (original) hunter fan was because 1) I wanted it to match my other two original Hunter fans in my home and 2) I wanted to reuse the globe as I love the 70s/80s look. I knocked off a star because Hunter customer service was a complete waste of my time. I called them to ask if I could reuse the old lighting piece on my new fan and they couldn't answer me. As soon as I asked my electrician, he knew immediately (it helped he was over 40) what I was talking about. Hunter customer service had no clue. Just young female reps following a script. My master electrician installed the fan today and voila, the lighting piece worked perfectly in the new fan! There's still an ever so slight motor noise, but my electrician said that's typical of these motors. I can live with it. He said if you want zero motor noise to buy an electronic fan. Overall, I'm very satisfied and hopefully my review helps anyone inquiring if the old lighting will work in the new Hunter original fan...the answer is yes!

We love this fan. We are ordering three more as well as five of the four blade type. Quiet and powerful, you don't even know it is running.

I just purchased 2 23847 fans. Upon installation and opening the bottom of both fans the switch in both of them fell part

I would have given this a 5 star rating as I have only installed the fan a few weeks ago and wanted to see how it performs. This is an extremely heavy unit, make sure you have the proper box installed. So far the fan is working great pretty easy installation, very quiet unit. You can tell this is a solid unit. You get what you pay for. So I do recommend this model.

They are the best ceiling fan model made, and perfect fans for outdoor use! My relatives bought two for their porch, and they're still in good condition. They are installed with 4 blades for old fashioned look and for more air movement since 4 blades actually blow more air than 5 blades do when they don't cause as much drag and there are more space for air to flow since there are fewer blades in the way. They do much better than most outdoor ceiling fans, because most outdoor ceiling fans, like most ceiling fans in general, are not really made to cool the room without AC, but Hunter Original started back in early 1990s when there was no air conditioning, and airflow on those hadn't really decreased since then. Hunter Original production moved to China back in 2002, and the motor has downgraded. In 2015, the motor had old elements back while it still looks the same as ones from 2002 to 2015, so while it's still made in China, it's a return to USA style. And while you have to oil the fan when installing it, and check oil every 5 years under "normal use", and most ceiling fans have "sealed" bearings, bearings can't be 100% sealed since there is a gap between spinning part and non-spinning part, and "seal" makes it harder to repair bearings when they go bad. Oil-bath bearings can last very long time if oiled many times! Those 2 fans in porch also have Hunter 99179 remote kit specifically for Hunter Original, and remote makes good speeds, and canopy that came with remote kit are different but still look good. They also have Hunter bowl light kit. I was hoping for a little more airflow based on the specs but overall a significantly better fan than the other lower cost options from Hunter. It's worth the extra money.

The rugged build of the Hunter ‘Origina’ fan shows with the 50lb. electric motor and it’s oil bearing, allowing the fan to last decades. My friend and i found a wood beam under the ceiling drywall and fastened fan to supplied hook and grommet system. The 52” blades are well balanced with matching blade weight numbers, but have shims that balance blades in case of rare wobble. These fans have been made over a century and this fan will outlast me in my 60’s and in my will. When Energy Star certification was started, the Hunter ‘Original’ fans were the first appliances certified and with the highest efficiency rating for electricity used. This fan replaced its forerunner fan, put in the house when it was built in 1987. It costs more than more trendy models, but lasts much longer.

Great fans but horrible company. We bought 12 of the expensive originals due to the lifetime motor warranty 20+ years ago. One of them wasn't functioning and needed replacing according to an associate via their customer service. I don't have receipts from when I bought them but can prove I'm the only person to ever live in this house with 12 of them. They offered me a 30% discount on a new one but said they'd send a free replacement if I'd have kept the receipt. What a joke!

They won't honor warranty unless you have original receipt. Fake lifetime warranty.

With regard to the fan only, I have two other Hunter ceiling fans that seem to more efficient at moving the air. With the other, older fans one can feel the breeze they make, but not so much with this new fan. I don’t know what that would be. I have an old fan Hunter on my front porch and another Hunter fan in my living room. One can sit below them and feel the breeze generated. No so much with this new fan installed in my kitchen.

I have a Hunter Original Fan that is > 25 years old. It is the finest fan and continues to run 24/7 for the last 23 years. There is nothing like the Original Fan. There is nothing like this fan.

The original Hunter fan is perfect as a ceiling fan that blends perfectly with the surrounding walls and ceiling!

In my 30 years of home ownership Hunter Original fans are the only ceiling fans I have installed. And I have never had one fail. I changed oil in my fans once in those thirty years. This fan creates more air flow than any other fan I've seen. The Hunter Original will cost you, but you'll have a classic design in a cast iron housing that will last you the life of your home.
