This Hunter Ceiling fan looks great on my screened-in second-floor back porch. It is continuously exposed to Florida humidity/moisture and occasionally receives indirect rain spray. (See "FYI" below.) The plastic blades are definitely necessary for outdoor installation. I keep my garage door closed most of the time, but those ceiling fans have composite blades that have separated and drooped over the years. Installation was pretty straight-forward. The light kit is sold separately because the fan can be installed indoors or outdoors, and the location will dictate the type of light kit. I have not yet selected a light. There is no remote, but the ceiling fan is wired so that the light can be connected to a wall switch. This fan is perfect for my needs. It's the right fan for the right place. [FYI: A little research for the term "wet rated" showed that this fan can be installed in "an interior or exterior location in which water or other liquids may drip, splash or flow on or against the electrical components," which gives it more versatility than a "damp location" ceiling fan, which is only "designed for covered outdoor areas that do not receive direct water."]

I received my Hunter Sea Air 52 inch indoor-outdoor white ceiling fan today, it came well packed. This is a wet rated fan with plastic blades and stainless steel hardware which makes it perfect for outdoors. The fan can be mounted three ways, close to the ceiling, or with the included 2 1/2 inch down rod. You can also purchase a 36 inch down rod for either a high ceiling or a sloped ceiling. The fan is light kit adaptable (must purchase separately). It puts out quite a bit of air (3448 CFM). If after you install it if their is a slight wobble just move a couple of blades around and that will usually fix the problem.

This is a Hunter ceiling fan. The name speaks for itself in reference to quality. That being said, this fan is quite a bit more complicated in installation than your average ceiling fan. The blades are isolated with rubber shock absorbers. This reduces the fans vibrations. The fan is very quiet. It had a 3 point hanging lock vs the slot lock found on most ceiling fans. Everything on this fan is geared toward waterproofing as well. Plenty of rubber gaskets and sealed compartments. Just take your time with the installation and have an assistant. You should be fine.

The fans were returned, not because they were not great fans. My builder said I needed to get fans with a light kit and these did not come with a light kit. Otherwise, I would have loved them.

Fan seems fine so far still to early to evaluate fully, only PROBLEM I had was some screws were missing from the covers the last parts you put on, they need to list al parts on a separate list so you can check packages before you start installing, had to delay finishing project till I went and got screws for cover.

I've had this fan for 2 yrs on a 3rd floor balcony in Florida. I bought 3 fans at Home Depot. Irene took out at least one blade on each fan. So I had to take off all the blades since there was a bunch of screws attaching the fan bracket to the motor were missing. These screws tended to fall out before Irene, I had to keep replacing them. They just don't hold under normal operation and I made sure that they were tight. Now that I had the blades off, I noticed that they were all yellow and the white bushings between the blade and bracket were all worn and all need to be replaced (a total of 45 bushings). Also, the white paint is peeling on all the fan brackets. We are in Orlando away from water. I suspect that the "Sea Air" wouldn't survive salt mist near the ocean. Also, the Hunter web site is horrible for ordering parts, no pictures and not all the parts are listed--not even the blades. And Hunter email is a black hole for response. On the plus side the motors still work. These are expensive fans compared to the others at the store. I would expect screws to stay put and no paint peeling. The paint is just ordinary spray paint. I wonder if Hunter even knows about powder coat paint. The tiny screws holding on the canopy are impossible to use. The are too small and up 10 feet in the air they are impossible to assembly. I had to get dog point screws to get the canopy in place. I suspect Hunter doesn't have their designers up a 10 ft ladder assembling these fans or they would know how impossible this is.

This was the first ceiling fan I have ever installed on my own and I think it went very well. I would not describe it as being easy, but the instructions were very clear and I got loads of helpful advice from the guy at Home Depot who works in the fan area. Fan works perfectly, soundlessly.
