Z-WAVE CONTROLER FOR 300-WATT LED/CFL COMPATIBLE PLUG-IN DIMMING LAMP MODULE FOR AN ADT HOME SECURITY SYSTEM
An easy to install Z-WAVE plug in wall outlet . I found it almost too easy to install in an ADT Security Home System. The instructions may appear vague so knowledge of the Z-WAVE operation and setup can vary but in my case was straight forward and no issues were encountered. Instruction do explain how to handle issues including how to reset the Z-WAVE wall switch to factory defaults. Plugged it in and logged into the ADT control page on my home computer and selected "add a device". When the page asked I just pressed the "include" button on the module (actually the only button on the device so you can't go wrong) and within seconds it was operational. The light on the module went from green to amber. I had the lamp already plugged into the device and turned on to supply it with a load. As soon as it appeared as an added item I was able to turn the light on and off again from the ADT screen. Programming for off and on times are the same as used for any other Z-WAVE product in this system. Keep in mind that this is a dim-able switch so it should be used with a dim-able bulb up to 300 Watts when using a CFL or LED type bulb. Total time from opening the package to use of the product in the ADT system was under ten minutes.

Now this is HANDY!
Wow! I have about 35 Wink Smart Devices in the home. I have bulbs, switches, dimmers, receptacles, etc.. but this the first mobile wall plug-in and it has Dimming Capability. The flexibility of this item is great as I can easily move it to any location for such temporary needs as maybe a Christmas tree or even some patio accent strings of lights. No hardware required to install, simply program and link to your Wink account and you are off and running. Works great with Alexa also, just remember the name or make it something identifiable!

A great tool
This product allows you to convert an ordinary receptacle or even an extension cord into a dimmer switch to control a lamp. It works as described and requires no installation except including it into your Z-Wave network. Because there is no installation required there is not much to see. However, I did include a picture of it connected to a small lamp I am using to test with. The switch’s dimming range is excellent, all the way from 1% to 100%. I did not test it with a multiple bulb fixture or a 3-way bulb. But I am confident either or both would work if the total wattage remained under 300. My tests were with an LED so 300 watts would be enough to light a city. Based on the testing I have done to this point; I can not only recommend this switch for providing off/on and dimming control, but also as a tool for other home automation purposes. One unintended benefit of it requiring no physical installation is its portable. I do not have any way to meter the limits of my Z-Wave network. I can this plug-in switch anywhere I want to test to see if I have reception in an area before I go to all the trouble to hard wire in a smart device that might exceed my network limits. I doubt this is viewed as a best practice method but it seems to work. I am trying to upgrade my home into some level of smart home. But what I am finding is, that it is I who needs to become smarter. There are so many facets to what makes up a smart home. I started with a Wink Hub 2, a Wink Relay and a couple of switches. Subsequently, I have added a couple more relays, a bunch of smart switches, two receptacles and a Ring doorbell. This is the first plug-in switch I have had a chance to use and I don’t know why I waited so long to get one. Again, because of plug-in portability, it provides you additional flexibility in programming your network. You can easily try things that would have been difficult without it. There are two additional features I would like for it to have. Dimming control and load sensing. In some respects, they are the same thing. If you dim the light completely out, then there is no load. I would like to be able to control that and test for it. It’s not the fault of the switch. I may be mistaken on this point, but I don’t believe Wink software supports that type logic. I can live without it. But it would be nice to know that kind of sophistication is available if I can get smart enough to use it.

Upgraded model, ZWave Plus! Hub required.
Decora Smart plug In Dimmer, z-wave technology R51-DZPD3-1RW. First this is a new model of the DZPD3 3-17. With the addition of Z-Wave Plus. It is backwards compatible with regular Z-Wave technology but will not work with Leviton's new WIFI switches or its new app. It will work with older home hubs but you won't be able to utilize all the enhancements of the Plus! With the Z-Wave plus energy management, range and Mesh quality is improved . Transmission time to hub node are faster along with a smaller physical devise with lower energy draw are additional enhancements. Lastly it's capabilities allow for over air firmware updates. At writing the plus looks to be $5.00 more then the previous model without the plus status. Something to consider is that your hub control Older Smarthings , Wink hubs along with others manufactures that don't have Z-wave plus protocol will work but most of the enhancements will not. The Wink 2 and newer rev Smarthings do have the capabilities. For most the Mesh quality will be an important addition allowing more routes to a wider selection of other Nodes. In short it helps get signals get to places that might otherwise be weak signal areas by going from one to the other instead of from your hub to specific switch or plug. Set up is straight forward and pairs well with old and new Wink and Samsung hubs. Is seems faster reaction time with the newer versions hubs then the old . This product is much easier then hard wire in comparable products just plug it into a wall socket and pair with you hub and you now have a smart circuit . The DZPD3 is designed for lamps etc with 2 prong plugs, indoor use, dimming capable. 100W LED/CFL, 300w incandescent , Halogen 120v 60hz neutral required. You can also switch the product manually from the Z Wave plus unit. So if your just getting started in building a home automation network the newer switch above probably is your best bet as having the latest rev could be an advantage with newer home hubs protocol etc. if your adding to an existing older network there are still positives ,if your looking for a stand alone product you might want to look at the Leviton WI FI plugs and switches since they have access thru there free app however I haven't seen the Wi Fi available in portable plug in units.

Thank you for your purchase and review. As with most dimming products at default the DZPD3 does ramp up and down. If your objective is to have instant on, the DZPA1 is a plug-in switch that would turn on and off. In addition, the DZPD3 supports changing the ramp rate via a Z-Wave command as documented in the product manual. Please contact your hub manufacturer to determine if they offer the ability to send the appropriate command. Please reach out to our technical services via phone (800-824-3005 option 3) or e-mail (DSSupport@leviton.com), browse to our on-line support library (my.leviton.com), watch our on-line videos, or use the app articles and feedback options. We are here to assist you and look forward to helping you resolve your issue.

Benny,
Thank you for your purchase and review. The Ring security system does support lighting through the add security device section of the app. Ring support (800-656-1918) would be the best contact to walk you through the specific enrollment procedure. I purchased 3 of these from a Home Depot location near me. Once I got home with them I had difficult setting them up and had to call Leviton Tech Support. They were very helpful, but they informed me that the ones that I had purchased in the store were the original version 1 models that were only Z-Wave not Z-Wave Plus. I need the extended range for additional controllers, so these are going back. Perhaps if you purchase on-line you will get the newer version but the website indicated that there were 3 in the store under this item. The one that I purchased were model R02-DZPD3-1LW. I was told by the Leviton Tech Support guy that the newer model is DZPD3-2BW. If you need the Z-Wave Plus, make sure you check the model number near the barcode before purchasing.

Thank you for your purchase and review. We are sorry to hear that you received the older model in store, it was our understanding all product had sold through. That started, the original units will work fine as range extenders. They support all of the major commands including ‘beaming’ which is used for locks and other battery devices. If you have further questions please contract our technical services at DSSupport@leviton.com.

So far it has remained well connected to SmartThings and only rarely does not show as available. It has the same drawback as every switch of this type. If you turn it on/off with the app then it makes the lamp difficult to use manually because they may be out of synch.

These are easy to set up and fun to use! They paired easily with my SmartThings hub, and function well with Alexa voice commands! Also, since these are plugin, they work as 'repeaters' (might be the wrong terminology?), which has made several of my battery powered water sensors more stable (less apt to become 'unavailable' to the hub). I've had 4 of these for about a month now, and has been fun experimenting with different "Routines". Maybe the only down side is they don't have a ground plug!

The switches work great, I got a two pack and I have table lamps plugged into them. I then easily connected them to my Wink 2 Hub, there were two options of decora switches to connect to the hub, I just messed with it until one worked. Overall I would buy again.

I bought 2 of these hoping this would be a cheaper alternative to the Lutron Caseta Lamp plugin dimmers. Unfortunately, both stopped working after a couple weeks. Had trouble pairing initially before it stopped working. I have called Leviton support multiple times and now they are saying my dimmers are "out of range" from my Smartthings Hub. Now these dimmers only work in the same room that my hub is in which is totally NOT practical. The range of these z-wave dimmers seem to shorten over time I guess. I wish I could return these but I had already thrown away the packaging.

This outlet requires a compatible smart hub and once connected is usable. This module is great as you can plug in a light and control it from anywhere in the home. It can even be controlled when not home. In addition, it will dim the lighting as desired. A particularly nice feature is that the controlling hub will allow it to be programmed to dim at certain times of the day for example really dim in the morning when it's still dark out to being fully bright in the daytime when its bright outside - this is both easy on the eyes and conserves energy. Will definitely get more of these.

Great product that is easy to setup
I used this to plug my lamp into. I use the Z-wave function and have it hooked up to my vera home automation software. It paired up really easily as I just followed the manual for pairing. Total piece of cake. It dims unlike some of the other zwave outlets. I dont think you can plug a high amp item into it but if you are trying to do a a lamp or two , it should be no problem.
