This light is intended for a troffer ceiling grid system and not flush mount without needing alterations of your building structure. I wish this style of install was more clearly mentioned in the name of the product other than "integrated" but that's where my negatives end. Once I was came across the suspension mounting system from the same company I was able to install the light pretty easily. The electrical driver box and hanging clips protrude from the back of the light which are no issue whatsoever for a ceiling grid but prevent flush mounting unless you want to cut out portions of your ceiling. With the suspension system I was able to "float" the light just below the ceiling which at 11 feet up isn't noticeable. Electrical is a basic three wire system (black, white, ground) with optional wires for dimming and an extraneous wire not required for installations in North America. With having the light on the suspension cables, it allowed me to have free hands for the wire connections. Of course with a troffer there is no issue other than needing access above the light. The light itself has a quick response to the switch when turned on and provides bright cool light that lights up a large area. The best characteristic is the even light distribution across its entire length. Bottom line, this is a great light for a troffer system. If you want a suspension system or other modification it can be used without a ceiling grid as well.

A completely new experience
We are remodeling our home and the term “remodeling” is used in the literally sense. Doors, windows, walls are being moved or replaced and all the infrastructure is being redesigned. Part of the project includes a new kitchen. The old kitchen was 55 years old and featured a drop ceiling with egg crate light defusing panels. Four-foot-long fluorescent fixtures, spaced evenly in rows, were flat mounted to the ceiling. As hokey as it must sound, we became very accustom to that style which was the "in thing" back in the 60’s when the house was built. Looking for ideas to use in the new kitchen I ran across LED light panels. I was not familiar with them, in fact until I got this one, I had never seen one. Not knowing what to expect, I temporarily hung this panel in the middle of the area that will grow into the new kitchen. My goal was just to see what effect it would have and how much light it would produce. Initially, I was concerned about it being too commercial looking for a house. Leviton advertises it that way and the cool white color temperature is consistent with an office or shop environment. But all of that skepticism went away after I saw what it could do . If you haven't already guessed, I really like this light. It provides good coverage for its size and the cooler temperature also goes well in a kitchen. The light is like no other fixture I have seen. It is very thin and the illumination it produces is completely even and without any glare. It creates a modern somewhat space age feeling, in that, you are in a lighted environment but have no real awareness of where the light is coming from. It installs like any ordinary light with the conventional three wire connection. It can be dimmed but I don’t think it is necessary. The feeling the light gives off is to my taste and does not need to be alternated. Even if energy savings are your thing dimming a 30-watt fixture is not going to do much for the bottom line. I do have a bit of an issue with the way it must be mounted. Because it is designed to mount in a t-grid system, I had to use the z-hangers and hanger wire to temporally attach it to the ceiling. That was easy; but we do not plan on using a drop grid ceiling so I must figure out how to permanently mount it. It does not accept a mounting bracket or a round ceiling mount. My only alternative is to build it in. Fortunately, that Idea appeals to me. There are several attractive ways to do it that will fit in well with the look we want for the kitchen. But I see that as a problem if you want to do something quick and easy. I have one other issue which was of my own making. Because I got the 1 x 4 foot 3400 lumens model when I should have gotten the 2 x 4 foot 4500 lumens version. I will need to l get a second unit to get the needed coverage. That too may work out better in the long run. I included a couple of pictures of the temporary installation so you can get some feel for what I am basing my comments on. I am anxious to see the net effect when so much of the light isn't absorbed by the unfinished background. From what i have been able to tell so far it should have less effect than you would expect from another type of light source. Now that I know about light panels I intend to use them a lot more often on other projects. If you have not looked into them I strongly suggest you do so. Especially if you are into modern styling.

Outstanding
Another great Leviton product. Was going to install in 2x2 lay-in ceiling but would have to rebuilt to much as was not way to install a 4 foot tee and would have to order parts. So I had wanted a light over my desk so built a frame and made a surface mounted lay-in box. Ok from pictures need to paint frame and touch up drywall. Easy to install normally would just unwire existing fixture and hook up this new one install a few hanger wires and would be all done. Have this on a Lutron Diva C-L 250 watt dimmer and it dims from full to very low even lower the low end as far as it would go, Just love Lutron dimmers always work great. Try this light you will love it nice and bright more white not the blue most think of with LED's

UBER COOL !!! MY FAVORITE LED LIGHT OF ALL TIME !!!
BACKGROUND: I've got dozens of LED bulbs and fixtures in my home and shop. So when I got the opportunity to review the Skytile fixture I jumped on it. My first thought was to put it over my workbench as a diffuse light source. But when I unpacked it I realized it was way to pretty to put in the shop. I've been looking for a better light for my office and decided this would be perfect. UNBOXING: The box for the light is a GREAT example of informative packaging...5 stars for info-graphics! This fixture is much heavier than it appears. It weighs as much as an equivalent full-size Troffer light. When I read the initial description of the light I was really excited that is is only 1 inch thick. However I was disappointed to find that the electrical driver is in a metal enclosure on the back/top of the fixture which is about 1 1/2 inches thick. My plans to flat mount it on the ceiling in my office were dashed. INSTALLATION: The advertising says it is a direct replacement for existing lighting. By that I assume they mean existing troffer lighting. I knew I was going to do an alternative mount so I won't address replacement. The back of the light has 6 offset mounting tabs. They are fairly sturdy and I felt that using 3 of them for my installation would be more than sufficient. I decided to install the fixture as a hanging at the ceiling and wall junction, tilted 45 degrees to thrown the light into my office. I used an old 3-conductor (grounded) power cord from a deceased work light as the electrical supply and used a strain relief to enter the junction box. I put 3 cup hooks into the crown molding and used suspension wire to "hang" the fixture into position. The power cord plugs into a tap with a switch in the receptacle. OPERATION: The receptacle tap is within reach from my office chair so it is easy to control the light without even getting out of the chair. I prefer daylight LEDs but the Cool White of this fixture is very nice as well. Unlike some other LED fixtures where you can see the individual LEDs the diffuser in this light produces an even light from the entire surface of the diffuser. SUMMARY: Again, my favorite LED light of all time. Highly recommended.

Installed three of these to replace old, ugly fluorescents in a basement workspace. Great improvement! The light is brighter and warmer, and they don’t buzz or flicker.

AN excellent product. It was used to replace a fluorescent bathroom fixture and was a little challenging as there wasn't attic access so had to improvise. A unit like this with more install options would be great.

This Skytile Light is the BEST!
Finally I have ditched my flickering, buzzing headache of fluorescent lighting in my office! The hardest part was taking out the old fluorescent fixture. Then the installation was simple and fast, instructions are simple and easy to follow. Lighting is much better, brighter and reaches farther than the old lights. I plan to replace all the fluorescents over time. Rated to be 45% more efficient than fluorescent lights and operates for 50,000 hours! Looks great! I love this Skytile 30-Watt Brushed Aluminum 1 x 4 Integrated LED Flat Panel Light, in Cool White!

Attractive LED panel light with good engineering.
This is a light panel designed to be used in drop in mounting style. This is not what you want for surface mount, unless you can recess the wiring box up into the ceiling. Having a separate box for voltage conversion moves the heat away from the panel itself and should offer longer life. This is also the reason why I will try to replace whole fixtures like this, rather than LED tube conversions or LED bulb conversions. This have the issue of sharing voltage conversion heat along with lighting heat. It supports standard 0-10V dimming, which allows chaining of lights for common dimming in a larger room and also work with normal Leviton dimming, which is easier for the average DIY'er to put in place. It doesn't seem as bright as fluorescent tubes at first, but what you learn is that it is just more even. There is an even light across the surface from all the surface mount LEDs making up the panel. The light temperature is just a little lower than I would like, at 4000K. Since you cannot change bulbs, it is important to match the color temperatures of your fixtures. Color Rendering Index is 80. While many lights are getting far past 90, they are not doing it in this price range. The CRI is respectable when the cost is factored in. Leviton has been putting out some good LED fixtures and this is another good one. There is no more reason to install another tube based fixture. LED has truly arrived.

This is a very good replacement for existing florecents.
It took me a while to finally get this thing wired up and in place for some reason the instructions didn't come with mine. I was assured that this unusual. To be honest the wiring is rather straight forward. If you have ever installed a standard ceiling florescent light box, then you can install this without issue. Firstly, no ballast box to worry about. It is more similar to wiring a normal ceiling light. I used this to replace an existing florescent light box. It looks great. It was easy to install. It is quite bright (bright then what it replaced), but you will notice that it has a shorter throw. So the area under the light will be seen better, but the amount of area that the light actually covers is not quite as large. You will never notice this in a bright room but in a room that it is the only light source it will be very noticeable. I think this is because it uses flat surface mounted LED's so there light actually just points down.

LED lighting at its finest
Awesome fixture the brilliance of the light produced puts just about any flourecent fixture to shame..it would be a little tough to hang on a regular hard lid ceiling...I believe it was designed for a drop type ceiling...it is a very well constructed fixture ..awesome lighting just a little tough to hang...from what I understand ther is a hanger kit available...all in all a great addition to any kitchen or work area where extra lighting is required

Best drop in light ever
My laundry room was a dingy miserable place to go because of the awful fluorescent lighting. They buzzed, the blinked, they took time to "warm up" and the tubes were a hassle to intsall. NEVER AGAIN! The Skytile lighting drops right in where my antique lighting was, looks AMAZING and gives off flawless lighting. No dark spots, no goofy lenses to clean and adjust and replace all the time. The Skytile is also thinner than the old drop ins so I can put it in areas where the old fixtures were way to tall. I've reviewed alot of home improvement products but the Skytile is at the very top of the list. No question about it!
