Work with old master switch ,5yr. Old

Just what we needed to go with other switches we purchased, was not told we need a companion switch, one like this so the lights would work from all areas with all functions. All is great now!

Was able to dim down where no longer experiencing “disco” lights.

Downsides:Lack of store availability, and long wait.Not compatible if each switch box connected to light and breaker with only one wire between.No mention of master dimmer misconfiguration causing issues in instructions.Great for dimming LED fixtures!

Have used Maestro dimmers for years. There was nothing wrong with the five Maestros I just changed-out. I simply wanted to change to new Maestor dimmers designed to handle CFL's (Never in my house), LEDs and incandescent Halogen bulbs's in the same dimmer. I did have a need to call Lutron's Technical Support, just to be certain I was doing something correctly. As with the other times I have called over the years, I'd rate their work an 11 out of 10.

These are pricey for what they do. They seem to work well dimming with some LED BR60 lamps but not all. I had one LED lamp that now hums with a high pitch (that's right like the old fluorescent ballasts). This happens even at full power. With traditional switch, I did not have this problem. Before spending the money, make sure your LEDs have the same color once dimmed. Different brands may all say 3500K and at full output appear to have the same color, but when you dim them down, their apparant color may range from 1500k to 2500K. Some look a dim white while others sort of amber and some look pinkish. LED lights aren't all that cheap but when you do buy them, you should buy enough of the same brand and model for all lights in a room if you intend on using a dimmer - even this expensive one.

The Lutron product is excellent however the product documentation is terrible. I spent an extra 90 minutes troubleshooting my 3-way switch circuit due to an undocumented programming mode setting configured on the dimmer.

Instructions a little hard to understand programming takes a little effort

Over time, I have replaced over thirty canned incandescent light bulbs with replacement LED canned lights in my house. All lights were installed with Lutron dimmers so I needed to replace the respective dimmers with Lutron LED compatible dimmers. I have a multi-location dimmer (two–way switch) in my hallway and upon installation, I realized the two MACL-153MH dimmers weren’t working. I called Lutron Technical Support and in less than two-minutes of waiting, the Technical Specialist stated I needed the MACL-153MH Dimmer paired with the MA-R Dimmer. I checked the online store inventory and realized the MA-R Dimmer was a “special order” item so placed the order online. I had the order shipped to my local store and the dimmer arrived within four business days. I have since installed one (1) MACL-153MH Dimmer along with one (1) MA-R Dimmer and both dimmers work perfectly. Thank you Lutron Technical Support! I understand that the MA-R (SKU # 1000520038) may not sell as often, but I would recommend that every Home Depot store keep a minimum inventory of MA-R Dimmers in stock.

Did not work for LEDs . Returned it.

This companion dimmer is necessary in order to dim the lights from two or more locations. It is not available in stores, and the instructions for the Maestro master dimmer are so voluminous it is easy to not realize the companion is needed. We first used a regular dimmer with the master and it only worked "independently" when the master was turned on. Nearly useless. While the companion is worth the cost and time to have it shipped, it would have been great to have it available in the store. Note, the store does carry a set of master and companion as well as master switches, though it was not on the shelves when we shopped. Not being master electricians, we bought the master and the regular dimmer as the box the master came in made no mention of a dedicated companion.

This is a replacement of the existing one. The trim of the old one cracked.

Works well with the led lights and the master unit. It would be nice if Home Depot carried this product in the store instead of online only.

Worked perfectly for three- and four-way switching circuits. Only way to provide functionality for four-way switching/dimming circuits. Make sure you read the Lutron website PDF on how the Maestro dimmers work. There is a ton of additional capability within the Master Maestro CPU.
