Very happy with the floors!
The floors turned out better than expected! I really liked how the color turned out and the hand-scraped design really makes this floor stand out. The price is very reasonable for the quality of the product. The installation was easy, which the online video helped tremendously and each box came with detailed instructions. I would recommend this product to anyone!

Good looking product with flaws perhaps generic to these products
I put the flooring in my foyer, dinette, kitchen, and laundry room - 317 sq ft. That's 9.6 cartons at 33 sq ft/carton. I purchased 11 cartons - 10 plus one for possible unusable/bad/ugly boards. In my case, I found 290 boards (about 26/carton). Of these 62% were about 3.5 to 4 ft, 17% were 2.5-3.5 ft, and 21% were 1-2+ ft long. I found 17% were bowed (subjective but noticeable bowing) but they were all usable. 3% were starter boards (right or left side cut flat) mostly about 2 ft. This is described as "rustic" flooring and is wood so describing "blemishes" is very subjective. I found 7% with noticeable markings of which about 2% could be manufacturing errors (in my opinion). All were still useable by judicious use (starter boards usually). I put planks that seemed to me to not be "perfect" in a closet, pantry, hidden areas, and laundry (the floor still looked acceptable to me). I had 15 3-4 ft good boards remaining plus shorter pieces that could be starter boards - about 1/2+ of a carton. The rest is scrap from fitting the boards (I'm sure a professional would have less). I knew that water is the bane of wood floors but I still like the look of wood. If you spill water on this floor, wipe it up as soon as possible. You will probably get wrinkling of the surface after 15-30 min and sometimes less if on the edge (see pic). It is not repairable - the board has to be replaced (I tested with water damaging scrap and repairing them and did not get an acceptable fix). If you require water resistance, these type products are probably not suitable (not just this one). Small scratches can be easily fixed with a stain tube of some sort. Hickory is harder than many other woods but it will still dent if you drop things on it (think of it as being "distressed"). My impression is that the finish on these boards may not be as durable as a 55 year warranty implies (I'll let you know in 55 years!). You should get samples of floors you are considering and soak them in water if water could be a problem in your area and drop things on them. Installing the floor is not easy esp if you have to do many unusual cuts and get measurements very close but probably a lot easier than a nailed or glued floor. The bowed boards were a bit harder to install but fit well once you get the knack of putting them in. Even being off a 1/16 inch to meet an adjacent area to click/lock (as I did with a peninsula) will cause you a lot of grief but at worst requiring you to take up part of the floor and start again (a lot easier than with nails or glued floors). Thankfully, in my case, a bit of harder tapping on one side got the boards to fit. As another reviewer said, it is essential to tap each and every board in place (after it is properly fitted). They fit much better and lay flatter. I had no problems in that respect. But be sure to use the spacer blocks since all those taps could throw off your measurements. I have not noticed any noise I can attribute to the floor. In fact, some squeaks I couldn't get rid of completely in the subfloor seem quieter with the floor installed. For me the final look is good (see pic) and what I wanted and most of the boards were usable. I will also be doing the family room and use the excess boards from this project.

The method used to connect the 3/8 inch thick planks is much too tedious. The 5” X 1/2 inch planks were great but they don’t make them any longer. Too bad. I know I won’t be using the 3/8” planks ever again.

I installed over 1100 sg ft 7 years ago and it looks as great as it did the day it was installed. In fact I am going to put it in the two bedrooms we didn't do 7 years ago. Plus it is manufactured in the USA and Not China.

This was the 3rd time over the last several years that we have ordered this flooring. This time the wood did not match the wood of the first 2 time. I was very disappointed.

My Husband is a contractor and has installed many types of flooring. He said for the price is this the quality was not good. Many tabs broke and the installation took twice as long as it should have because the pieces didn’t properly fit together. It’s a gorgeous finished project but not w/o issues.

Final project looked good, but installation suggests at best average quality. The snap/lock mechanism did not result in a tight joint and few boards layed flat . I had to face nail intermittent boards to keep the flooring flat to the subfloor. In the six boxes I ordered, only one had a good mix of short, medium, and full length boards. The other 5 boxes had only full length and slightly less than full length boards. I had to rely on cut/scrap boards to provide staggered joints.

This flooring was very difficult to assemble. Had to use block and hammer to snap every single plank together properly. It almost seemed I was installing tongue and groove with all the hammering I did. Quality is not the best, too many shades of color and chipping. Once installed looks Ok.

Inconsistent warped pieces, avoid this flooring
I ordered 12 boxes of golden rustic hickory engineered flooring. I fought with installing 2 rows for nearly an hour and ended up returning the entire order. The boards were warped and would not go together. Some boards fit ok but none fit good. The short ends would twist and warp due to the amount of bow in the boards. I have installed similar flooring in three houses and never had the issues i found with this product. Do yourself a favor and avoid this floor unless you want to break out your four letter word dictionary.

        Great Floor
This floor is assume. I bought the 3/4 nail down for our family room and loved it, but I did not want to use 3/4 nail down for the Entry Way and Kitchen. When you get the boxes, it is important to let them get to room temperature for 3 days. The snap lock does take a few tries to get the hang of it but when you do, it goes down fast. There were few random length but this was good as you cut the size you needed and a lot less waste. We returned 3 boxes not needed. The floor looks expensive and beautiful. It cleans easy and hard to scratch. I have two dogs and they do not scratch the floor playing on it. This product turned out better than I dreamed and worth the money.

This flooring is beautiful, and made well. There are a few shorter pieces in each box to add some character. The reason for 3 stars is that there are 3 or 4 RIGHT hand starter pieces in each box. End pieces are pointless and a waste since you need to randomize the rows at the start to get the correct effect. ALL pieces should instead be beveled on each end. There were also several pieces that had no beveling at all. There is 1 or 2 sq. ft. of unusable planks in each box because of this.

            Beautiful Flooring
We purchased this flooring for our kitchen, dining room and living room. It is absolutely beautiful and quite easy to install. We had to order it online since HD no longer had it in the store. It arrived within the timeframe that was expected and even when a couple of the planks were damaged, HD.com rectified it quickly and fairly. I would recommend this flooring.

Photo color & actual is SO different.
I'm bummed because I got a very red floor when I wanted more of a honey color. I wanted the color in the photo on the website & it's so different. I'm even wondering if they sent me the right flooring. I was going thru the flooring again because for my bathroom I wanted to get more of a honey color, like in the picture & then I realized that that was what I had purchased! Lots of product $'s & labor later, I'm definitely disappointed. Not a bad idea in retrospect to order the samples, even though they overcharge for them. I would not recommend this as it's presented in the picture if you're really looking for a 'golden' color, this ain't it.

            Most attractive floor
These wood floors were put in three of our bedrooms, replacing carpet. They look and feel wonderful. The hand scraped look is just what we wanted. The instructions for installment could have been a little clearer. We called the manufacturer and they clarified any questions we had. Installation was relatively simple. Since each piece varies slightly in color it took some time to lay them out and arrange them so that the variation in color was evenly spread out. The wood seems to be quite durable and is easy to care for.

            Hickory Golden Rustic Flooring.
Good product. I installed in five large rooms no problems after reading the instruction, which you must read. You must also use the tapping block to make these click lock flooring lay flat, there is no short cuts.

Response from THD CSApr 3, 2013
csperson, We reached out to the brand about your review, and this is their response to you: "Engineered Click-Lock Hardwood Flooring is designed to insure a tight fit of the boards. A tight floor is a sign of a well milled floor. Experience has shown that loose fitting click-lock floors are prone to undesirable flexing and movement. Boards that do not lay flat during installation are not defective, they are just not fully engaged. A few hints for installing click wood floors follow: The first two rows are always the hardest--once this foundation has been established, the other rows will be much easier to install. Also, be sure the end joints in adjoining rows are properly staggered a minimum of 12" to insure the floor is flat and stable. A tapping block can be used to assist in installing the boards during installation including any slightly curved boards which can be installed successfully. Feel free to contact our Technical Services Dept at 1-800-258-5758 if you need any extra assistance."

Floating click lock engineered floor NOT recommended for DIY
The click lock design needs much improvement, very difficult to get planks in proper place and lay flat. Some of the planks still do not fit properly or lay flat. The instructions could provide better information and need improvement as well.
