This ABS cement works great. I was sure to follow the directions and apply it to both the pipe and the fitting. It is easy to use and this can was plenty to cement all the pieces I had for my small project. It was cold out but this set in just a few minutes. Also, I was careful to hold the fittings together as they have a tendency to want to push out after the cement is applied. After everything was together, I tested it and there weren’t any leaks. Overall, I’m happy with this cement.

The Oatey 4 OZ. ABS Cement was perfect for connecting my original ABS pipe to the ABS/PVC adaptors, when installing the new bathroom vanities. It takes very little to form a strong, waterproof bond. This is important because there isn't a lot of space on the edge of the adaptor, where it needs to be applied. It also sets very quickly so we didn't have to wait to finish the installation. The only drawbacks were that I needed help taking off the cap when opening the can and there was a lot left over which was difficult to save. Other than that, the quality of the product is worth the effort.

We have an area that needs non-pressurized cement-a new sewer drain installation for the RV, which we have rarely worked with before. The instructions said it would "soften" the pipe and fittings to create a stronger bond which is one of the reasons we tried this for the particular system we were doing. The black stands out so you know where changes in pipe-style are, but to us it felt like a bit of a weaker bond. Only time will tell and again, the instructions did say the was a longer application for this cement. It's been 4 days now and everything appears to be OK so we covered it up with dirt.

This ABS cement is black in color and makes it easier to see after application. The cement softens the pipe or fitting to make a more secure bonding. The metal can and lid has a dauber attached to the lid to make the application easier. Oatey is a recognized brand in cement and other similar products. ABS pipe and fittings do not require the additional step of priming like other PCV.

Clean, apply, push, twist, count to 30, then move on. Only for non-pressurized applications, use this for DWV (drain, waste, vent) piping. Check your local code, especially for venting to make sure you’re allowed to use ABS, which would be a much better choice than a corrugated expandable vent pipe. Handy homeowners, this is for black plastic pipe to black plastic pipe. Don’t use this on white, grey, or off-white. Just black. The white, off-white, and grey plastic are PVC and this is not the cement for those applications. This is only for the black plastic (actually ABS) pipe. It can get overwhelming looking at all the different “plastic glues,” so just remember ABS = black ALWAYS. So, if you have black plastic pipe, look for a glue that says “ABS to ABS.” If your pipe is white, it is PVC, so use a glue that says PVC to PVC after using a different can called PVC Primer (it’s purple). If you have white AND black pipe, use a glue called “ABS to PVC Transition Cement” after using PVC Primer on the white plastic ONLY. If you’re needing specific drying times, here’s Oatey’s chart: https://images.homedepot-static.com/catalog/pdfImages/51/51d30559-9062-4746-88e0-757e714a9360.pdf These two pages are really helpful.

Plastic pipe come in a variety of grades and colors each one for a specific purpose. Black ABS is used for plumbing, vent pipes, sewer drains up to eight inches in size. I had a cracked drain line in ABS which had to be replaced so the proper glue for the job was black ABS cement. Oatly cement has always been the go to product in all my plastic pipe repairs.

Excellent cement for ABS. We've been using this for years and have never had an issue. It's easy to use, dries well, and easy to apply. I always wear gloves when I use it and have never had an issue with it sticking on anything other than what I need it to. Applicator can get a little messy but that's up to the user. Make sure you're using the right glue/cement for the right application. PVC, ABS, etc all differ so be sure to use the right one. I always like to dry fit it first, debur anything if needed, then apply the cement to both connections before joining them.

This review is for Oatey's Medium Black ABS Cement, item # 30999. This specific item comes in a 4 fl. ounce blue can and is specifically used on ABS connections up to 8 inches in diameter. This specific cement is not intended for PVC applications. Like most of these ABS/PVC cements, this is a very fast setting cement. When applied in a warm setting/climate, setting time can be seconds, setting time that period where the connection is solid and can no longer be removed or adjusted. When I used this cement, I had to be very sure of my connection before I applied this cement. This cement will dry secure in 2 hours at application temperatures above 60 degrees and up to 24 hours for applications below 60 degrees F. Pressure testing should not be attempted before these curing times have elapsed. Oatey is an American company having first started in 1916 and continues to make the best products related to plumbing. MADE IN THE USA, I would highly recommend all Oatey products as I have been using them for years.

I am unable to review this product as the lid of the can is pretty much sealed on. My cleverness and a very strong man tried many ways and times to get the lid off to no avail. Comically, this might be the products finest way of proving it is truly cement. I will not speak badly about the company nor the product for they have been in the business for years specializing in plumbing; it merely a fluke I got a can that is cemented shut.

32 oz Can of ABS Cement. I used it to connect my gutter drainage system which drains into a lake. The consistency is good for coating, thick enough not to drip but thin enough to easily spread the cement. Home Depot specifications state "NO" to applicator in lid but there is a round brush attached to the underside of the screw lid. Black color. Should be used on non-pressurized piping systems.

Anytime your working with PVC pipe you should always do all your fit up from beginning to end. For fit and positioning before cementing. Then once everything is fitted up you can start taking a section apart and start cementing for the final assembly. Myself when it comes to elbows and other bands I like to take a white paint marker and mark each piece to make sure when I glue and assemble they are in the same position as my original set up. Once you apply the cement to both piece and go to put them together you only have a short period of time to get them repositioned. Usually a twisting motion makes the final assembly easier to complete. So as I'm pushing and twisting I'm looking to bottom out the two pipes and end up with my markings lining back up. I'm going to be remodeling the bathroom in my trailer. This will mean moving the commode, the sink and replacing the tub with a glass doored corner shower. So the Oatly medium black ABS cement will play a major part in making the job successful .

Oatey 4oz ABS Cement is a fine product that can be used to connect two pipes together with a cement adhesive. It does not dry too quickly, so you can feel free to do the job correctly and not worry about it drying in a couple seconds, but it creates a great adhesive bond. This is for use in non pressure or very low pressure connections, so make sure not to use it for the wrong application. If you're connecting drainage pipes outside underground, this may be just the item you're looking for to create a solid and lasting bond between two pipes.

PVC cement is a critical component of connecting two pipes. I use this all the time. First I use a cleaner or primer to clean the porous plastic pipes, than I use the cement and the seal is good. The last thing I need is the pipe and joint disconnecting while underground and washing my topsoil away and making possible sinkholes. A good cement job is very important.

Oatley has been the standard in cement adhesives for years. This type is for use on non pressurized systems like drains or drainage runs. It gives you plenty of time before it dries and it is easy to work with. Wear gloves as this could Irritate the skin. I used it on connecting pieces of drainage pipe coming off my roof for a short run. For long runs I would use another of their products.
