Cheap and won't last in a permanent installation. Chrome plating peels. Replacment is costly.

The installation wasn't any harder than any other drains. However, included screws rusted less than a year later. I expected screws to be stainless steel or chrome plated brass. However, it is regular steel screw with chrome plating. And the plating was not even thick enough. Now I will have to search for stainless screws to replace. :(

The screws are rusting causing the strainer to stain also. It has been less than 1 year of usage of my newly remodeled shower. We have only used recommended bathroom cleaners. The installation was easy. The shower drain looks great - except foe the rusty screws. I will have to see if I can find new screws.

The rim plastic broke when it was installed tot he new drain.

Worked as needed but the one I purchased was square.

This drain has standard PVC body for tiled shower base system built with "mud bed" and waterproofing membrane (a layer of mud bed to give pitch towards the drain + waterproofing membrane + mud bed for tile application + tile). I personally prefer round drains over square ones because I have developed a cutting method for round ones and it seems to be easier for me to, just because I can adjust the height of the drain against finished floor, with square one I have to install it and make sure that it will align property with finished surface - not a big deal, just my personal preference. Obviously square drain looks better and goes better with square mosaic tile, that's why in most cases my customers pick square drains for tiled shower floor. The finish part of the drain is made of nice thick metal, it feels good and durable, grate is removable for cleaning and service. Great product, been using it for a long time, totally recommend. Professional installation is recommended because it requires advanced set of skills and knowledge, and experienceas as well.

The OATEY 4-3/16 IN. PVC SHOWER DRAIN WITH CHROME BARREL AND SQUARE CHROME STRAINER is used with tile shower bases. The components are well made from a heavy gauge PVC. The strainer is not flimsy and looks nice. The drain body solvent welds over 2 in. or inside 3 in. schedule 40 pipe. So be sure to pick up primer and solvent to do the welds. The threaded strainer is adjustable to allow for easy height adjustment.

The Oatey 4 3/16 PVC shower drain with chrome Harrell and square chrome strainer in white is a heavy duty and well made shower drain that comes in a square top piece to fit nicely with tile in a shower. This particular shower drain fits either 2” or 3” pipes and either goes inside or outside. It comes with a reversible collar to clamp and secure via heavy duty bolts. The strainer itself is chrome plated and should stand up over time- the holes are small enough to let water pass through but to catch/prevent larger objects from going down the pipes/drain...

I can trust the Oaty 4-3/16 IN. PVC shower drain wit chrome barrel and square chrome strainer in white. Best of both worlds quick and easy install with the plastic and has the wonderful metal that is the look and feel of the drain. Easy install and looks great. Simple design. Compliments many bathroom styles. The down pipe from the drain will fit both 2" and 3" piping, the materials all feel well made. The grate can also be removed via two screws for cleaning if needed.

This drain looks very high end when installed. Installation is the same as almost any shower drain. The easiest way is to use a stub on the drain and a Fernco connector if you have the space and access to connect in that manner. I have the drain set to the correct level and am ready to tile. The level adjustment is easy without tile already in place but, the square drain seems almost impossible to use with existing tile (without damaging tile in the immediate drain area). The actual strainer (decorative top) can be removed for replacement in the future and seems extremely easy to switch out.

This is a heavy gauge of chrome used for the drain the components that fit into the drain are plastic as most plumbing is now. However I was impressed by the chrome drain itself being constructed of heavy gauge metal. The drain we are replacing is poor quality! Definitely this Oatey 4 3/16 shower drain is definitely going to be an upgrade. We used an Oatey round drain in our guest bath replaced an old one was impressed so had no qualms getting another for Master bathroom shower. Easy to install however no instructions come with drain but you can go to HD website and find details on how to replace your old drain.

This is a premium, high quality Shower drain. everything on it is heavy duty and solid. The the insert for the floor that you glue into the existing Plumbing is nice and thick and it should last forever. The flange that you bolt in is well made with good tolerances. The Chrome grate is solid and free of defects. It will be a couple of months before I can install this as I am working on a remodel. I don't foresee any issues getting it installed. And I expect it to last longer than any of the components.

I ordered this shower drain to go with the shower door that I recently ordered, for a up coming bathroom remodel that I will be starting this fall. I can say that I have installed this drain on a previous bathroom remodel, and was happy with the turn out. I like the square look better that the round it makes it much easier for installing tile than the round drain. All in all I recommend this product!

My Title installer Person just inspected my Chrome Shower Drain . And he said it look like a very good quality. that will last . Here are some pictures of my Shower strainer W/ chrome WITH CHROME Barrel & With a 4-3/16 IN. top chrome strainer. Also take a look at the top Chrome Straine. It has a lot of threads to adjust in the drain Hole on the floor. So as long as you set this strainer close to the top you can screw the top strainer down to the top of the tile get that perfect look. And am very happy with the Quality of this strainer and i know its going to last Years. Now only of i can get the title guy to start working on my shower.

Very affordable compared to other brands and is compatible with other 2" drains.

I had recently noticed that the shower drain in my master bathroom shower stall was leaking. I selected this item as a replacement, not knowing that this is actually for installation of a new shower floor or pan. Unfortunately I’m not an expert in plumbing so I was not aware at the time I selected this. A few years ago I did a complete bathroom remodel replacing everything with the exception of the shower pan. Now I wish I had included that as well. This is a nice heavy duty shower drain and it would have looked great in the shower. The portion that mounts on the floor is a nice heavy duty plastic and the drain itself is a chrome metal drain, not a cheap plastic. I gave the quality of the item 5 stars, but gave the ease of installation 3 stars only because I wasn’t able to actually install this in my shower. If you are installing a new shower floor or shower pan, I would definitely recommend this product. It is high-quality, heavy duty, and I’m sure would last for years.

Contractor installed. The picture shows corrosion after 8 years. Very disappointed in the chrome longevity.
