Used this as a base for a paver patio. There were a lot of larger rocks in excess of 3-4 inches in the mix which made getting the base somewhat level before and during compacting difficult. Once compacted with a place compactor, it seemed to do it's job and made a really nice base. Finished the project with landscaping fabric, leveling sand, and polypropylene paver base panels before adding bricks. So far everything is holding together. Other than the size of some of the rocks, the paver base is working as it should. I'm not sure I could have hand tampered this stuff.

Full of big rocks
This stuff is terrible if you're trying to put down a layer and actually somewhat level it. I bought decomposed granite in bulk for the base and then a few bag of this stuff to fill in some areas that were still lacking some depth. These bag are full of large rocks, making leveling impossible. I can understand a few getting through here and there, but the bags are full of them!

I was on the fence about using bagged paver base for my recent patio work. But after laying the retaining wall and using this as leveling base I found it really locked together nicely as a base. I priced delivery of a few 3rd party dirt companies and this was priced similarly. So I ended up going with this. It packs easily. Don't try to compact it when wet as it will stick to the tamper.

This product worked as described. It is important to follow the detailed instructions provided in the on-line videos about how to install pavers. I used it for the installation of a wall around the base of an ornamental maple and the advanced prep work (as described in the videos) is essential to a nice, level job. Learn, prepare, have fun, and enjoy the finished product!

I started a paving project with 13 bags of paver base. The rocks and debris were so inconsistent (causing tiles not to settle level even with a layer of paving sand) that I had to stop grading to rake out the rocks into a wheelbarrow. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with this load of rocks I’m in possession of now. I can stand a few rocks but found a bolt, Laffy Taffy wrappers, and rocks around 4 inches round. Needless to say, this paver base labor cost me more time and money (in extra sand) than I had originally bargained for. If I had to do all over again, I would have tested one bag before opening them all and went with another brand with better (or any) quality control.
