Someone at Pavemaster Is Color Blind
I have not had the problems with rocks that so many customers have had because I have not bothered to open the bags. (No problem with the Vigaro pea stone though; those bags were already torn in multiple places.) I ordered gray pave base. What came was reddish brown. I'm not the only person who got the wrong color according to the reviews. The part number for gray is correct, so it's a Pavemaster problem, not a picking mistake by Home Depot. Trying to rectify the problem will take weeks. I don't recommend this product or Home Depot for still carrying it despite the multitude of complaints.

70 percent large stones 30 percent base
This is mostly large stones very little base. Huge waste of time. Picture included is the small stone. Much larger ones in bottom of bucket. Please change description to large stones most 2" and larger in size.

      Nice granules sets evenly
Mix granules are consistent and easy to set flat and ready to paver.

Just dirt and rocks difficult to work with.
I followed the ‘how to build a retaining wall video’ which recommended a product like this as a base. These are not real crusher fines or anything that can be tamped down. It’s basically very expensive packaged dirt. There are huge rocks mixed in making it very difficult to level. You would be better off saving your money and using just any dry dirt or soil you can find. This is a scam.

          Dirt and river rocks mix.
I bought same brand for other projects and the quality in the past was excellent, knowing this I went to HD to buy about 10 bags for a small project and surprise not paver base, instead the material was more like dirt mixed with river rocks, check the difference in the pic of real paver base and this product, stay away from this brand, I know I will.

Easy to install and level over dirt. 10x10ft area completed in afternoon. Transformed patio into livable space for relaxation.

            Not Paver Base
First let me say that Home Depot staff were excellent. They offered to help load it in my car. When I opened the bags at home I quickly realized that the bags were filled with big rocks. Since I was only doing a flower bed edging I picked the rocks out and moved on. Some base was white and other bags were gray. I would not buy again. Do not use for a patio. You’re better off buying from a stone yard that sells paver base. It may cost more but you can see what you’re buying.

              Weird
I ordered a bunch of these along with some pavers and spent the $80 on (unattended) delivery. What was delivered was a bunch of crushed rock from a completely different brand. I guess other people have had this problem too, so the in-store and online SKUs must be mixed up (it gets delivered by your local store). The return process has been a bit of a pain. Lots of back and forth on the phone with a sprinkling of attitude and being told it’s my fault for ordering the wrong item. I didnt know that by Pavestone sand you actually meant Mutual Materials rock, my bad y’all! I had to unload ~1k lbs of rock so I could recover my pavers from underneath then reload the rock onto the pallet. Obviously the pallet needed to be unwrapped in the process, but I was later informed that if I don’t find a way to rewrap the pallet myself, the return will be outright refused. I don’t get why they’d rather put the onus of rewrapping a pallet on the customer than bring some wrap and do a proper job. Isn’t that a safety concern? I prepared to do my best DIY wrap job, but they came by and wrapped the pallet for me after all without informing me that it was an option or that they were doing it. I sure appreciate the effort, but it all seemed kind of weird to me. I’m taking it as a nice cherry on top of this baffling shopping experience. This is why I go to the blue store whenever I can…

                not match the picture
Base material is full of large gravel and not in anyway matching what is shown on the picture. Its defintely not for paver concrete

A waste of time and money
You only need to look at the photos to see why I gave it 1 star. All rocks, no way you can level this for a paver base. The worst part is that once you open the bags you can't return the product so you have to clean up the mess and move on. I purchased 35 bags and opened 15 of them so goodbye to $67.00 plus tax. To make matters worse I paid Home Depot $79.00 for delivery so now you have to wait for them to come and get the unopened bags. Many similar reviews, why is HD selling this crap?

Full of 1 and 2 inch rocks and bricks
All of the 27 bags had large rocks over quarter of the bag. Had to spend ridiculous amount of time to remove since I could not tamper evenly with such large chunks. Was not going to deal with returns due to time and the peer hardship to move them again. First time buyer and I am unsure if this is how they come but no mention in the product details or photo. Covered area was 50 sq ft. If my expectation was wrong I will pull this review down.

I'm using it for a 9 ft. circular paver patio. It does the job, but it has a lot of loose larger stones in it that makes it harder to tamp flat and level. I plan to add a little paving sand and tamping it again before putting a final 1 inch layer of sand on top for the pavers to rest on. It's also a little pricey for what it is, but I guess you can say that about everything these days. Also, it's not like there are a lot of different options for paver base out there.

This was mostly rocks - All 5 bags
Bought what I expected to be something closer to decomposed granite. What I got was a bag of rocks with some dust in it. Checked a couple more bags, and they were all the same.

                        Waste of money
My husband and I bought several bags of this paver base weeks ago and it was fine. Went back last weekend and got several more bags and thought we bought the wrong item. That’s how different the product was. Quality control is horrible and the company should be ashamed for selling this garbage. How in the world can you call it a leveling base when it’s 90% chunky rocks??? If we hadn’t opened the bags it could have been returned. But even then, what a hassle. They know it too!

Creates a SOLID and DENSE base for you pavers
I had a walkway that needed to be redone because a bunch of chipmunks dug out holes under the concrete pavers, causing them to sink, making the walkway a tripping hazard. Over the winter, I also didn't want my shovel to catch on the uneven pavers when I clear the walkway of snow. This Pavestone paver base was exactly what I needed to create a solid footing for the pavers. It packs real well and very dense. I cut to size a 2x4 the width of the walkway and screeded the paver base to the height that I needed. I also made sure to grade it so that water runs away from the foundation. Once that was done, I used a 10” x 10” hand tamper and went back and forth packing down the base. I then laid the black panels and reinstalled the 450 concrete pavers above that. Laid down the edging and then packed the sides with soil and then added the polymeric joint sand and this project is now complete. This Pavestone paver base is so easy to use that I will go make a paver base under the BBQ grill as well as the generator with the leftover concrete pavers I have.

                              Too many rocks
I ran out of mason sand and only had like 2 sq ft area left to lay some papers so bought this and wasted my money and time. Atleast a third of the bag was rocks and definitely large enough to not allow for laying pavers

                                Rocks!
Bought 40 bags of Patio/Paver Base. All the bags were labeled exactly the same. Half the bags were sand and the other half of bags had a lot of rocks in them. I would not recommend if you do not want to chance getting rocks in your sand and do not want to pick them out.

WARNING!!!! DO NOT BUY!!!! NOT SAND!
5 dollars for 3/4 bag of rock. First and last buy from homedepot for not taking this seriously. You cannot trust this brand saying it's good for paver base unless you want to decorate your garden. I bought it just to end up with tons of rocks. And homedepot is not exactly responsive in regards to complaints like this. They should have better service and discuss with their source vendors. This is beyond ridiculous advertising incorrect products description!!

                                      Full of Rocks
The bags that I purchased were about 1/3 rock and 2/3 sand. The pictures of it on the web site do not show rock. The description on the bag does not say sand and rock mix. I have used paver base over the years and have never seen a bag so full of rocks. Usually, there are no large rocks and minimal pea gravel sized rocks. When I called HD about it they said that's how it comes and they cannot control their suppliers. Worst answer I've ever gotten. I had to use it as I was in the middle of a job with paid workers and could not stop to return it as the HD person said. This is ridiculous.

This is NOT stone dust. This is NOT paver base. This is construction debris run through some sort of grinder and put into these 50lb bags. You will find some debris dust, but mostly large chunks of brick, rocks, plastic, wood grade stakes, and some metal.... Seriously disappointed in this transaction. I bought 100 bags, and tried to work through appriximately 25 bags, before giving up and loading the other 75 bags of this GARBAGE ( two pick up truck liads ) back onto my truck. I was refunded for the 75 I returned, but was told "yeah that stinks, can't help with the other 25 bags" even after showing the service desk rep a couple pics of this junk... DO NOT buy this junk....

The contents don't look anything like the picture above. It's mostly a bag of rocks with some fine brown dirt mixed in. A lot of the rocks are over 2 inches in diameter so have to throw them away if you only want a 2-inch base.

Paver base contains silica sand, and safe handling requires an N95 mask. Very dusty! And also contains big stones
Well I learned something. This product is basically mine tailings from quartz production. Many workers die from working around this product without a proper N95 respirator mask. silica sand causes lung damage and cancer. It is not safe for do-it-yourself patio builders like me to go raking this stuff. I bought 25 bags for my pathway project, because I didn’t have enough DG (my backyard is closer to a hard slab of granite) to set some leftover flagstone onto a path. Not only was each bag full of large stones and unground mine bits making it unsuitable for its stated purpose, but just dumping the product from the bag sent up a cloud of fine gray dust. Alarmed, I read the bag for the first time, and learned an N95 mask is recommended and saw the printed warning to avoid inhaling this dust. Researching further, I decided to return the bags I hadn’t yet opened. Home Depot could have made this a lot more clear to customers. I’ll certainly be reading material specs more closely in future.
