Cheap, overpriced garbage
This blower is three months old. Has not been use much has always been hard to start. There's no place to grab the unit and pull the cord except for the handle on top of the back harness well that finally broke today cheap flimsy, plastic material not a fan of Ryobi anymore.

2 cycle leaf blower
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this leaf blower about a year ago and the flex bellows split on me. The leaf blower itself is great but the bellow splitting is causing me to rate this a two.

Relatively good blower but not the best RYOBI has. The Blower Bellows Flex Tube broke within a year and forced me to buy a replacement.

Junk with no support
ok for 1 year before the lower frame (the plastic at the bottom that holds the blower) broke off in 2 places beside 2 of the 3 screws that hold it together. Ryobi CS for outdoor said contact local repair place. They charge $40 to look which RYOBI may not cover and they take weeks to evaluate, part takes weeks, then more to install. Spending the rest of the summer waiting for my leaf blower to be evaluated and maybe repaired is not adequate. RYOBI lost my business. DEWALT is next.

Great when it worked, but cheap plastic breaks
The unit was great when it worked.
I went to use it for the first time this spring and as other reviewers have stated the plastic clips that connect the backpack to the engine completely snapped off when pulling the pull cord. It's kept indoors, no reason plastic should be that brittle so soon!
I contacted the nearest service center and they said they didn't want to do anymore Ryobi warranty work for the foreseeable future because Ryobi is being a pain to work with.

Pull Cable Breaks
If you are going to buy this, just be prepared to have to take it apart to replace the pull cable. I’ve had two of these and I’ve replaced the cable multiple times on each. I have lots of gas powered tools and this is the only one that breaks like this. At this point I’m just going to throw it away.

Buyer Beware...They Catch Fire
I have this exact model. It caught fire where the muffler exhausts. The shroud in that area heats up and ignites.

Disappointed
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was gifted this about a year ago as a birthday present and used it for one season. The blower was stored in a garage during the off-season. During my use this past fall, the unit caught fire. The fire was not due to a gasoline leak but rather occurred on the opposite side of the unit than the gas ‘tank’. I have no idea what caused the fire. The blower is now trash. It was a good unit while it worked. I’m very disappointed in this product due to the short life. Not sure I’d get another.

Broken right out of the box
I just assembled this unit out of the box, purchased today. Filled with premixed fuel and ready to start for the FIRST time. First pull and the string does not retract. Stuck out and no way to start. Very disappointed and will be getting my money back for both the unit and the fuel. Don’t waste your money on this piece of junk. Spend the extra $ and get a reputable brand

Fire
Mine caught on fire today. I honestly have only used it a few times since I bought it in 2020. Today I noticed it losing power but it was still running. I took it off to make sure I was not out of gas and the system was primed. Noticed a fire inside the plastic. I put it out with a hose laying around but not before it burned part of the housing. I could have gotten quite hurt if it were still on my back while the fire got larger.

Blows my leaves very well!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Prior to using this gas leaf blower, I was using an electric leaf blower that did just an OK job with blowing my leaves, and it hurt my arms to carry around the yard. As a result, I purchased this Ryobi gas backpack leaf blower.
This tool was my first one that is gas-powered, so initially my husband and I felt a little scared about fire hazards, but my first use of this product eased our minds. The instruction manual was easy to follow, so I was able to easily assemble the leaf blower in a few steps. I then poured a pre-mixed 50:1 gas/oil (purchased separately) into the tank, and I figured out how to turn on the leaf blower and use the throttle. The box contained all necessary parts except for sufficient gas/oil, safety glasses, and ear protection.
I feel very happy that this gas backpack leaf blower blows my leaves with much airflow, and it very quickly clears a large area of my yard. Furthermore, the shoulder straps are padded and adjustable, so they are comfortable for me as a small woman to wear, and the strap and clasp around the chest helps the shoulder straps to stay on. I expect the shoulder and chest straps to fit my large husband as well. After using this leaf blower for a couple of hours, I had no back pain.
The only advantage that my electric leaf blower has is its vacuum that sucks up leaves, which this gas leaf blower does not have, but I can always use the two together.

Flex bellow cracked after 3rd use
A great blower.
Too bad there is a major design flaw.
The flex bellow is made of a cheap and brittle plastic.
Not actually a failure in design, but in the choice to use a cheap material.
This part should be made of a durable, rubber like material.

WASTE of money and the warrant is a JOKE
AVOID! Dead after a year! HD charged $30 for estimation and then ask $170 for repairing. Has been following the instructions and using the mixed fuel but once it is dead they will tell you it is your bad! Worst experience ever!

Huge Time Saver
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Let me first say, our front yard area is a " catcher's mit " for the enormous Maple trees on the opposite side of the street. The amount of leaves would drain two to three batteries from my previous leaf blower. Use a rake you say, my entire front yard is a rock garden theme. In short, the first use of the " Hurricane " velocity generated from the agile beast of a back pack style blower cut down the actual time so dramaticly I chose to clear my neighbor's front yards as well, still had fuel left over in the tank.
Most gracious for the incredible engineered tool from Ryobie. Price is exceptional for the time saved and results. Greatly appreciated, thank you Ryobi.

Flex Tube Tore Apart so soon
I Bought this blower about 4 months ago and the flex tube already ripped. Cheap plastic? It’s my first back pack blower and I was really excited at first until it started to rip. Overall, it’s a power blower. Odd design to it though.

Flex hose ripped twice
So far this has worked well with the exception of the flex hose. It tore once so I cut it and refit the hose. It has now torn a second time. I plan to see if the warranty will cover a replacement of that part. Otherwise, I will try to find my own solution/replacement. The blower itself seems to work fine.

Great for the money
I bought this blower well over a year ago and decided to wait to do my review. It’s easy to love something when you first get it and haven’t tested it. However after years worth of use I LOVE my blower! It starts up easy and has a ton of power!

Power to Spare
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] You could not wipe the smile off my face. I have been content these last 27 years with my PB-200 handheld 2 cycle blower. Only because I did not know any better. It blew the large Oak Tree leaves at my homes in CT and ME. I thought 3 hours twice a week for a clean yard was not bad. I have since moved to South Carolina and I know have 2-1/2 acres with 31 trees including 2 Pin Oaks, 1 Water Oak and 3 Persimmon trees. Pin Oak leaves and small narrow little buggers that get trapped deep in the grass. Now It is easily 3 or 4 hours every day. But it needs to be done if you want a clean yard and healthy grass next spring. My wife said, “enough is enough all you do is blow leaves everyday”. She did her research and knows I own [and like] Ryobi tools. She picked the RY38BP Backpack Blower as a gift for me this Christmas. I gave a big smile and was grateful she thought a more powerful blower would make my job easier. I was skeptical that it would be heavy to blow leaves for 3 or 4 hours. It is surprisingly light, and the shoulder harness is well padded. I’m 6”1” and 210 pounds so I wish the lower wings were a little bit longer, but they are still comfortable. The real joy is the power and the variable speed I can control with the trigger. Sometimes you don’t want or need full power. A pile of large fluffy leaves blows almost as fast as I can walk, and those Pin Oak leaves jump right out of the grass. I use to have to wait 2 or 3 days after the rain so the leaves would be dry enough to blow. Now the wet leaves stuck to the ground under a pile are no problem. The best I can tell you is buy it you won’t be dissapointed

Ryobi products are bad .
Bought this two years ago ,and returned first one ,do to bad carburetor . Only use it in the fall . Well so far had to change pull cord twice . This week ,It just stopped running , tried to start it ,and pull cord would not move . Took off the top to check it , noticed fan was sagged a little . So I took of the bottom ,and the plastic was cracked around the fan . I have also purchased the gas trimmer a few years ago,and returned it because of oil leaking through carburator ( reviews had stated the same problem ) . Last year bought the battery trimmer ,works good ,but the spool edges keep wearing out ,so you cannot use the wrench to do fast refill . This is shame that this company sellls these products .I will not buy another Ryobi.

Pretty Surprised
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a lot of Maples, Sycamore, White Pine in my yard. I enjoy them Spring, Summer and Fall, but when its time to clean them up it can be a daunting task. But after purchasing this blower it was a quick and efficient project this year! It worked like a champ and gave me more time for other things. It has been the fastest clean up ever since buying my home 28 years ago. Should have gotten this sooner!

Good power
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was very pleased with my Ryobo leaf blower. I had used an electric blower for years and found this had had a good deal more power. It wasn’t as noisy as I was led to believe in some other reviews and was much quieter than my lawn mower for example. It also had adjustments to the bottom and top of the back straps so I was able to get a comfortable fit. I am not a large person but the weight was not hard to handle. Good product at an affordable price. I would definitely recommend.

Good at first!
I have a one acre lot with 91 huge hardwoods that drop tons of leaves in the fall. Plus a 90’ cement driveway with adjoining flower beds. Plus 400 sf deck. So I keep a blower going year round.
Bought my first Ryobi backpack BP42 six years ago. I was impressed by the power...but not the endurance. It lasted 3 years and blew the PAPER carburetor gasket. Would have cost $139 to fix, so I opted for a new one, same model. Same experience. Exactly. After 3 years, blown gasket.
Will be buying something else this time.
