Many mixed reviews but it has a warranty so I'll give it a try. I seen some came without a bar or a chain. I opened the box right at the counter and checked. I got a bar and a new chain in a Ryobi parts package. Mine was clean like new so off with it I went. I had a pretty good job ahead of me cutting up a large oak tree that had split and was already dying. Maybe it's just my climate but I didn't need nearly the priming and choking as the instructions suggest. Once I caught on to this it started with 2 or 3 pulls every time. About half a day for 8 days and it didn't let me down. The vibration isolation is a very nice feature. I did get a manual with mine and followed all the safe cutting suggestions. I don't run a chain saw for a living so I was careful. As for power it is only a 37cc (about 2.5 cu. in.) and it cut oak. Just for information I bought premixed fuel with no ethanol. Expensive yes but it ran great on that stuff and I just wanted to get that job done. I would say buy one as it does have a warranty and inspect it at pick up before you leave. Easily met my expectations.

My husband was so excited about getting a chainsaw , his old one broke years ago . We like having the safety feature at the end . Once he figured out how to use it , it was great for a little while . But now the stupid won't stay running .; or we get it started and the chain doesn't move . This makes it very hard to cut wood . We have had it for about three weeks . So no it does not meet our expectations at all .

Chainsaw was in great reconditioned condition. Came with a new owners manual and all the tools you need. My only complaint is it does not come with a case.

  • Great little saw!

I was hesitant about purchasing a reconditioned but figured I'd give one a try so as to be able to judge in the future. I've used it to cut several branches of an Elm tree in the yard and it works great. It started very easily, per directions, and was even easier to start while warm. There were no deviations from the choke, prime and pull directions. I've more trimming on the same tree to do and will add to this review if possible in the future!!!

Pros Cuts Well, Easy to Use, Good Size & Weight, Light Weight Cons no case like advertised in "features".

  • Good saw for the homeowner.

This is a good value in a saw for the occasional user/homeowner. Lightweight, vibration dampening system, easy to start and operate. I purchased for use as a companion saw to my larger primary felling saw. I use the saw for limbing and pruning.

This saw starts easy but takes a while to warm up to speed. The saw does not cut straight causing the bar & chain to heat up and smoke. I ended up putting a new bar and chain on the saw and now it cuts much better. The bar seems to be warped when I put it on a flat surface. Other that that it has been a good saw.

The Ryobi 16 " was purchased from Home Depot as a refurbished Chainsaw. I used It the first to cut down a dead tree that was about 35 feet tall and had a 10 inch diameter near the base of the trunk. The saw started right up the first time after I followed the start up procedure on the saw handle. The saw was not as heavy as one might imagine for a saw of that size. I don't think the saw was as loud as some other chain saws. I expected that it would be very load even with the dual protective ear inserts and ear muffs I had one. During that first use, it cut through the wood with ease. The chain remained tight until the very end where the last 16 inch log was cut and all the brush was cut through. I cannot vouch how the saw will start up, or perform after several more tries, or even how it will perform with live wood. But, I do feel that I will get many more cuts from this saw as long as the Bar Oil is supplied and the chain and saw are routinely maintained.

I notice that there are some reviews that knock down the rating because all you get is the saw and a chain. Well that works just fine for me, I don't need the carrying case. I bought this saw partly because it was a Ryobi, and partly because it uses the same chain that I have a bunch of - 56 teeth/.5 16 inch. This saw starts easily and has plenty of power. My old saw was a 23cc and so the extra power is wonderful. If I had a single complaint, it is that the chain brake is part of the cover that you remove to change the chain, and so it makes switching chains slightly harder. Not alot, but you have to make sure the brake is fully disengaged to easily pull the cover off. Then the brake mechanism is large so you have to mess around with getting the chain around it, again, not a big deal, just different from what I am used to doing. My saws often sit 6 months without being used, so I have to see how it lasts after a few years (my last saw ran 10 years...) But this weekend I cut down 8 trees, the largest being about 20 inches in diameter and the saw was a champ, no problem at all with the work I needed. Highly recommended.
