3 issues within 2 weeks of owning
1 issue was after install the water warning alarm went off because the lower heating element was leaking due to a bad seal around the element. Replaced that. Then the shutoff valve wouldn't work, finally figured out the valve was installed incorrectly at the factory. I also fixed that. Now I have an alarm for lower heating element relay stuck open. After hours of trying to reach Rheem they will ship the part to me in 4-5 days. So no hot water for a week. Great

    Bought heater had problems for six months before rheem just replaced with non gladiator style heater
    Had issue after issue and problem after problem. Rheem came out and paid to install a new one thatbisnt even the same smart wifi technology one.

      It's a complete lemon. Constant alerts and for different issues since the first day. First it was problems with the automatic shutoff valve. Next it was faulting due to it exceeding temperature safety thresholds - tech support said to lower the temp, and now the lower element relay is faulting. I have to constantly reset it to get hot water. I am returning it and would advise anyone considering this model to reconsider.

      I had the absolute worst experience!! i ordered this hot water tank and paid in full!! It never arrived on the date it was supposed to, i had to call home depot every single day for 2 weeks straight to find out when & where the hot water tank is at! Turns out they lost it!! No one could find out where and what happened to it! Customer Service department was no great either, they kept saying different things and said would call me back and never did! Worst experience iv ever had!!!

        Very nice water heater. Ordered it because it had the leak detection and a 12 year warranty. Have installed Rheem water heaters in the past and they have always been a great product. Would definitely recommend them. Home depot called and told me it came in damaged. When I looked at the tank it had a dent on outside. Agreed to accept the hot water heater because I didn't feel the dent in the casing would cause it to not work properly. The manager at the store was great and credited some money back due to the damage.

        You can't say you haven't been warned...
        installed the 55 gallon heater May, 2021. I got the 4 flash error which supposedly means a problem with one of the elements or the ECO. No problems found and power cycling the heater cleared the warning. Next the temp of the water went way up even though set to 120 always. Now getting the 4 flash code again and set to 110 degrees and the water measures 146 degrees. This heater replaced a 21 year old GE heater that NEVER had any problems and was only replaced because of age. I HATE this.

          The exterior skin on the tank was dented and creased multiple places but the box it came in showed no damage. Once installed by a certified plumber, the tank filled, then the electric water heater turned on, it repeatedly threw the 30 amp breaker in our house. It was determined that BOTH heating elements were incorrectly functioning at the same time thus drawing too many amps. I contacted Rheem directly at that time. It took 8 days to receive two new thermostats which did fix the issue. Terrible experience.

          No issues after 2 weeks
          All of the boxes had damage but inspected unit before I bought it and did not find any damage on the unit itself. Laid unit on its side to transport. I know this is not recommended but I did not have far to go and went slow. No issues on install. Took a couple of tries to get connected to internet but got it. Replaced factory drain and built a new on which is pictured (old/new). Will update if I have issues in the future.

            Installation Rip Off
            I don't like writing bad reviews, but the initial estimate for the water heater was $1200 plus it could go up to $1900 if they need to bring it up to code. It was 95% up to code and the cost ended up being $2424.62. It took them under an hour and the only thing new was a pan and sensor that was not even attached properly. Sorry, Home Depot, get a new service. Get ethical contractors. Sheesh.

              Motherboard bad after 5 days...
              Rheem needs to conduct quality control on their products before sending them to the retail big box store. Beeping started on the fifth day, Rheem's fancy water htr told me it was Code A108, Lower Element Relay Stuck Open Error. After my plumber comes out, he speaks to Rheem C.S. & told him that the part on the motherboard is on back order until mid-June. Well, that's not going to work!!! I am buying another model without the fancy motherboard & get a credit. Do NOT purchase this fancy Gladiator water heater!!!! I am a G.C. & don't need this headache from a simple product. Too many service calls that I will end up paying for out of my pocket.

                It is a very good water heater but the operating manual mentions replacing the anoide rod. Was going to replace with a electric anoide but you can't remove because it so thight . Contracted Rheem but not even a reply from the company as how I was suppose to get it out. RHEEM customer service is not existent.

They did send the replacement part quickly and a tech did come within a day but seriously, how can u sell something that breaks within hours.
