Works great! One coat and done. Warning! When it says to scrub the floor with the etching and make sure it's all off...REALLY DO THAT!! If you leave any behind, it will adhere, but it will look cloudy.

Worst product
I applied this paint 1 year ago. Before the application I sanded and pressure washed the floor. It only lasted 1 winter and it peels all off. I don’t have an oil leak either. Very disappointed.

That's not what we like to hear, John! If applying Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage Floor Coating to bare concrete, the surface needs to be degreased and etched or grinded to ensure full adhesion. The surface also needs to be tested for moisture and for a sealer. If the surface was previously painted, then it would still need to be degreased, but sanding would be done to create a surface profile.

Does not cover as much as advertised and I used it on top of a new epoxyshield professional coat. I used 2 coats of this. First coat looked great. The 2nd coat I added the antiskid additive and it ruined the look.

Thanks for the feedback! Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Premium Clear Top Coating Kit covers up to 200-250 sq. ft. over bare concrete and 450-500 sq. ft. per kit over coated concrete. Coverage varies depending on application method and porosity of bare concrete. The Anti-Skid Additive that is included in each kit (use is optional) should be mixed into the last coat of clear before application.

    Don’t be intimidated!
I am a 50 year old woman, but I do love painting. I researched many floor paints, epoxyshield, granites, etc and decided to use this product, gray. I also used 3 clear coats for a 2 1/2 car garage. After watching many videos on tricks, tips, and knowledge accumulation, I started my project! I filled concrete cracks, concrete cleaned (with a concrete cleaner), etched with citric acids and applied the epoxy. I love this product, the ease, the packaging and the outcome. We used 6 extra bags of chips and mixed with the metallic silver. Be careful not to re-roll the clear coat. My floor is beautiful and my garage is transformed. Don’t be intimidated, just go for it.

We followed the instructions to the tee, washed the floor, etched, drying time, applied epoxy at the right temperature. The first hot day we got the tires of my car ripped off 4 large chunks of epoxy. We were so excited to have a nice clean looking floor and now we had huge chunks missing. Very disappointing for the amount of money this product costs.

We understand your frustration. Peeling with the Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage Floor Coating can be attributed to either surface contamination or due to a very thin layer of weakened concrete (called ‘laitance’) on the surface. Laitance originates from the pour/application of the concrete itself, but this weakened layer can also be attributed to exposure to traffic or chemicals over time (including road salts). Generally the acid etching in the kit should be sufficient to remove this, but depending on the strength of the concrete some of this weakened concrete may remain. We want to hear more about your experience and try to make things right with you. Please feel free to call us at 888-683-5667 to talk about this more and make sure to have the product handy! – Rust-Oleum Product Support 5 Rustoleum

        EpoxyShield Gray
My garage is 285 sq. ft. It is a broom finish concrete, which means it is not smooth. So I decided to use the 2 1/2 car garage kit (I had enough to do another garage slightly smaller than mine). I used the recommended cleaners. I spent two days cleaning the concrete clearing anything that might impact the application. I allowed several days to dry (used fans). The application was simple. After the epoxy was applied I applied the clear coat finish. I waited 4 days before I put my garage back together. Although it was dry after 24 hours. The car will go on after 7 days. Looks great !!

          1 kit two colors
Have a 2 car garage and used 1 package to do one side and the trim work, and then 3 days later i did the other side. Second package was darker than the first. You can tell exactly where I trimmed, started the second side, and also where I touched up a few spots on the first side with the second package. I should have been smart enough to mix both packages together like you do when you do a big paint job, but I had a heavy tool chest I could not leave outside, so I just did one side and then the other. If I were to do a second coat i would have needed to do it within 24 hours. Now would have to scuff up the whole thing once the latest side has dried, find a place to store the tool chest, and come back and do a second coat, which by the way the manufacturer really doesn't recommend. Not happy as I am somewhat of a perfectionist. I hope it last better than it looks.

We appreciate your feedback! Since this is a 2-part epoxy, temperature and humidity can affect the final color of Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage Floor Coating. When doing two separate applications, if the conditions are different it can affect the color. If wanting to box or intermix the two pouches, you will want to box the bases only and measure out the amount for each prior to mixing the activator. We do not recommend mixing all the bases and activators together at the same time as this will drastically shorten the pot life. If needing further assistance, please give us a call at 888-683-5667 to talk with us.

Did a lot of research and this is the most highly recommended without lift. Did two garages. There are plenty of flakes. I was worried we would run out of paint so put it on too thin on the first garage and had to do a second coat. The square footage shown on the box is a generous single coat. I did up the wall about 12" also ... there is enough. Don't be afraid to put on a nice thick coat and then you only have to do a single coat. It has a great sheen... you don't need to buy an additional top gloss. The second coat made the garage floor look absolutely perfect since we did the first coat too thin. I liked it better when I sprinkled more flakes compared to the other garage where we did less flakes. The single box I bought to do the second coat had a plastic pouch which made the job 1000 times less messy than the double kit which had cans. Its hard to mix the cans (part A and B) completely and I think it contributed to our first coat not looking the best. The pouch is SOOO easy and neat its a dream. They should make all kits this way and get rid of the cans! Make sure you etch the floor and rinse thoroughly and allow to dry for a few days before applying the paint and frog tape your edges. The prep work is the hardest part. If you plan to paint your walls do it before you do the floor. (Once you see the floor painted you may want to paint the walls too... that happened to us. Its way easier to paint the walls first). By the time you get to painting the floor and sprinkling the paint chips its the rewarding part. You must sprinkle the floor chips immediately.... work in 4 foot by 4 foot sections and sprinkle right away. Dries quickly and they won't adhere well after ten mins or so. Make sure you read the directions beforehand because there is a pot life (amount of time the paint is good for) depending on the temperature. Maximum is two hours so best to do with two people if possible and work fast. Also read about temperature requirements.. can't be colder than 55 degrees at night, etc. Def wait at least 3 full days (3 days for full cure). I'd wait longer if you can. I wouldn't drive on for a week. Complete transformation and worth the effort... so much cleaner now. Highly recommend.

            Dissapointed
2 1/2 car garage kit. Concrete floor nearly 30 years old. Cleaned, scrubbed, power washed, etched SEVERAL times. Completely dried over 2 days. Hired a professional painter to apply who has done this before. Temperature was 65 to 75. Humidity was around 50%. *What I Expected - A consistently glossy, smooth and even finish with the exception from any scratches in the concrete. *What I Got - Blotchy covering. Some areas are more glossy than others. Outlines of the cleaned stains show through when light is reflected off floor. The slightest original defects and remnants of stains (shadows) show through but are now simply gray. *Opinion - There is not enough product provided to adequately cover a 2 1/2 car garage floor with a sufficient mil thickness to achieve the results depicted by the packaging photos. My results using this product were not nearly worth the time, effort and cost of this project. NOTE - I haven't even tried to park my vehicles on this yet and based on other reviews, I don't expect good results. For whatever it's worth, ALL the directions were followed (cleaning, prepping, applying, curing time and there's nothing wrong with the concrete).

We need to know more to get to the bottom of this Joe! Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage Floor Coating does result in a glossy smooth even finish. Etching concrete multiple times (we only recommend etching once) significantly opens the pores of the concrete, this will result in a lot of EpoxyShield being absorbed into the floor, reducing kit coverage. If EpoxyShield is applied too thin, gloss and coverage issues will result. Give us a call at 888-683-5667 so we can try to make things right.

Great Product, You Can Do It!
So there's a lot of negative reviews for this product. But I believe if you follow the EXACT instructions provided, namely application temperature and cure times you will be OK. Purchased one of these kits for my garage, it's a standard two car garage about 400-450 sq ft and i had about a little less than half a bag left over. Here were my steps and at the bottom of the steps, I put in some lessons learned where I screwed up. My Steps: 1. Clear out your garage. Like many have said, the prep work is the most time consumed. I removed everything off the floor. Including a GE water softener which wasn't too bad, although it was a little tricky figuring out where to disconnect the water softener (see LL#1). 2. Once the garage cleared, I swept it out. Then checked to see if it was sealed. Since rustoleam warns the epoxy may not adhere properly to a sealed floor. My garage is about <4 years old and had no existing coating. However the builder did "seal" it. There's youtube videos on how to check if your garage floor is sealed, you basically put a drop of water on the concrete and if it beads up and doesn't get sucked into the concrete after 1-2 min, then you know it's sealed. Didn't seem like my floor was that sealed when I did this test but i decided to power wash it anyways. 3. Borrowed a Subaru 3100 psi powerwasher from a friend. And using the GREEN nozzle (25 degrees) powerwashed out the floor (see LL#2). Then I applied the Rustoleam Concrete Etch and Cleaner (sold seperately in one gallon containers) to 10'x10' sections at a time (see LL#3) and scrubbed HARD with a good stiff bristled deck scrubber (see LL #4). Then I hose rinsed each 10'x10' section at a time (you don't want the etcher to dry on the concrete). Then I powerwashed the garage floor again. Then I squeegeed the garage. Highly recommended you get a squeegee so you get the most water out and it doesn't extend your dry time. They are sold at HD too. So to summarize this process was: powerwash>scrub>rinse>powerwash>squeegee 4. Prep the garage. One user had a tip to make sure you crack open your garage slightly open before applying epoxy to be able to apply epoxy to the part of the garage floor under the garage door seal. AND to prevent the garage door from pulling off the epoxy afterward. I put two golf balls in the tracks on either side of the garage door to give me about a 1” clearance. Then on the outside of the garage I duct taped some plastic sheets (trash bags) over the gaps to prevent debris and bugs from getting into the garage while it dried out. 5. Waited 24 hours for the garage to dry (per instructions). The garage floor should feel like low grit sandpaper after you powerwash and it dries. 6. Applied the epoxy kit. The kit comes with two bags (see LL #5). Do one bag at a time. Reason is the epoxy cure time. Make sure you have a good roller, at 3/8" nap. A good synthetic poly one. Don't go cheap on the roller, get a good one. After combining the first bag I waited a few minutes for the mixture to activate per the instructions. Then I cut the corner of the bag and added to a Solo cup (see LL #6). Take the bag and put it in a bucket or back in the box (see LL #7). From there I did the trim of the first half of garage with a brush. You may want to consider using a friend for this part of it. Doing the trim by yourself takes up time you could be using to roll. After finishing the trim, pour the contents of the bag in a paint roller and started rolling. Try your best to do 4'x4' sections at a time using a W and M methods to ensure the epoxy goes on evenly and you maintain a wet edge. If you go longer the edge will start to dry and pull up the epoxy and not give you an even finish. After each 4’x’4’ section apply the chips (see LL #8). Yes it is OK, if your chips fall on unpainted floor sections as your roller will get them on the floor elsewhere. I did buy an extra bag of chips since I wanted a heavy chip look. Glad I did. I got through the first half of the garage in a about an hour. Then I repeated everything above for the second half of the garage. Was able to get a good coat down with some left over. 7. Waited 24 hours for the epoxy to dry and cure. 8. Applied the EpoxyShield Clear Finish Floor coating kit (sold separately). Glad I did. Left a nice wet-look finish. Also added some of the anti skid stuff too. Follow the same precautions like Step #6. Make sure your pouches are in good shape. There’s been a lot of negative reviews on that product for sq ft. coverage. But I truly believe if you make sure to apply properly, not too much, can see what you are doing (see LL #9) and get some help from a friend with the trim, you can knock out a two car garage in an hour (my cure time) with just a single kit under the right ambient temperature conditions. Personally, because I knew I was going to be moving slower by myself, I bought two kits and did one garage half at a time. Also important you get a good 3/8” nap roller. For mixing I used a gallon container to mix in the anti skid stuff. Did that each time I had to refill the paint tray. 9. Waited at least 72 hours and voila, you are done and your wife can stop asking you when she can park in the garage!! Lessons Learned: 1. If you are disconnecting a water softner that's in your garage, make sure you run it to discharge all of the water from it before trying to move it. Will make it much lighter to move. Also it is MUCH easier to move a water softener with a dolly then by hand, even with two people. 2. Make when washing our your garage, you ducttape/tiewrap a ziplock bag around your garage door sensors near the floor to keep them from getting wet. 3. I don't think you need to buy the Concrete Etch and Cleaner. The epoxy kit comes with two little bags of etcher that you can mix with water. It's the same thing. 4. Buy a good stiff bristled deck scrubber when washing/cleaning your garage floor. Recommend the Quickie Heavy Duty Jobsite Deck Scrub Brush from HD. 5. When you open the box, double check to make sure the bags are still seperated in their respective A and B pouches. They should be stored in the box in an upside down "V" to ensure they didn't combine during shipping/stocking. Also gently squeeze/push both A and B ends so you know they haven't hardened at all. You want to make sure that everything mixes properly before you apply the epoxy. 6. The moment you cut open the bag, your clock starts. I took an Ipad, propped it up in the garage and ran a stop watch on the screen so I could keep track of my time without having to pull my phone out constantly. Application time will vary depending on ambient temps. Basically, you have MUCH less time to apply if it is warmer. 7. I made the mistake of letting the bag "sit" on the floor without putting it in a bucket or box. And when I say put in a bucket or box, I don't mean pour I just mean set. Reason is with the bag sitting on the floor it fell over on mean and spilled a good amount of epoxy everywhere so that was fun to work around. Putting the bag in a bucket or box will keep the bag and epoxy inside from tipping over! 8. Saw one user recommended using an old empty parmesan cheese container to apply the chips evenly. I did this. Worked pretty well, recommend it! 9. Found it very challenging to see where I was applying the clear coat. You may want to consider adding additional lighting to garage to help you with them. A small headlamp might do just fine. Or apply the clear coat with the garage door open. Either way, it’s important to see what you are doing so that you don’t miss any spots or use too much and run out. I actually missed several spots. The cool thing is I called RustOleam about it, and they are sending me a free clear touch up kit to fix my spots!! 10. This is more of a pro-tip, but I took some time while waiting for the clear coat to fully cure to drive ready to touch up my garage walls and baseboards. And also re-caulk some areas along the baseboards to seal up any cracks that had opened up. Glad I did this, gave the garage a nice fresh look!

                Great garage floor option
Been wanting to paint the garage floor for a while. It was great with this product. I followed the instructions and etched the floor the day before and let completely dry. Next morning I mixed as instructed and only poured out as much as needed for the current section. Paint the border of the current section the roll the area. I did 5x5 sections then threw speckles. Repeat for the next section. Work fast because within 90 minutes the paint starts to clot.

Garage Renew Project - Fantastic product but...
First to say that this product is EXCELLENT! Application on a properly primed surface using Rustoleum Concrete and Garage Recoat Primer went very well. Product is THICK to apply. Here is my ‘beef’... With a 500 sf surface to coat, I bought the 2.5 garage (2 roll packs) based upon Rustoleum’s recommendation. I followed directions for mixing and applications, popped and mixed the first pack, waited the appropriate time, and began to apply the product. Just before starting application, I popped and mixed the second pack in anticipation of applying this within the time frame. The first pack DID THE WHOLE 500 sf with some leftover (this is good)! What was bad was that I never needed to use the second pack, and now have a very large Mylar paperweight - More that half of the product wasted. The finished surface is excellent and more than satisfactory but I’m out of half the price of this product. I would love to hear from Rust-Oleum about this... While I LOVE the product, I HATE being out half of $114.00 plus tax... I gave a low rating for this alone - the product is FANTASTIC! I would be very very glad to change the rating...

That's odd! Each pouch of Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage Floor Coating has a recommended coverage of 200-250 square feet. To ensure full durability and protection, we recommend applying this product at wet mil thickness of 6.0-7.0. Applying thinner or trying to stretch the product to coat the surface, can affect the performance of the coating. We need to gather more details to get to the bottom of this. Please give us a call at 888-683-5667 to talk with us.

The product appears to be easy to apply that gives decent look for a reasonable price. Prepping the floor is a bigger part. It took me 5 days to make sure the floor was ready including patching, power washing, degreasing, and etching. The product was applied when the ambient temp and the outside temp were 75 for 4 straight days. It turned out to be a good looking floor after all the hardwork except for 1 Issue. The product is marketed as NO HOT TIRE PICKUP and per instruction, we need to wait for 3 days before we can park cars on it. Well, we waited for 5 days to make sure the floor cured. We finally parked our car on the beautiful looking floor at the end of day 5 after walking on it to make sure there was no footprint or imprint. The next morning, we discovered tire marks/imprints on the floor where the cars were parked. My heart was broken after all the hardwork, time, and effort we put in including moving all the stuffs out and in to make it happened. It is such a waste of everything. Losing money is one thing, but the bigger part is losing time, effort, and trust. I would not recommend this product as everytime we park our cars, there are new marks/imprints where the tires sit. Attached are pictures after the floor was completed and the permanent tire marks/imprints.

This is a very good product but two coats are necessary to achieve a uniform glossy shine. I used only one coat because the instructions state only one coat is necessary but the shine was spotty and uneven. I couldn’t do a second coat because I used the decorative paint chips, which are awesome by the way. I contacted Rustoleum to see what I could do and they recommended using the clear coat epoxy over the gray gloss epoxy. This turned out very nice! Use the paint chips sparingly or you will run out before you have finished painting the floor. The hardest part of this project was prepping the floor. After that, the rest was a breeze. I am very pleased with the results. Check out my before and after pics.

So mad! $480 later after purchasing every item needed, 4 people and many hours invested performing every step as described, and exactly one week later it can not handle hot tires as it said it can. We returned home from a one hour drive, parked in the garage, and the next morning pulled out and it peeled up under 3 out of 4 of the tires. We had been driving in and out, parking, turning tires on it and everything for 4 days prior with no problems so it has to be due to the hot tires. I haven't even begun to research what the best way is to fix it now and the thought of spending more money and time to do so is incredibly frustrating!

Rust-Oleum RockSolid Polylcuramine Garage Floor Coating is not intended for use on unsound previous coatings or floors that have a moisture problem. For previously coated floors, make sure the floor is clean and dry. Use a wire brush to remove any loose or peeling paint or stain. If the floor is sealed, the sealer will have to be removed by grinding or shot blasting and to ensure proper adhesion, scuff sand the entire surface. We want a chance to make this right with you. I purchased this product two years ago and recently painted my floor which is well within the manufactures shelf life of 5 years for the product. I had paint chips in my epoxy when I rolled out the coating. I called tech support and was told I had a pinhole leak in my epoxy bag. I requested a refund from the manufacturer and supplied proof of my purchase and repurchased the product to complete my job. I never heard back from Rust-oleum.

Good product. Be sure to use it within a few months of buying it and clean the garage floor very well. Only disappointment is that the kit doesn't come with any degreaser.

I used this on a concrete basement floor that was not level enough for the floating flooring I wanted to do. It worked out really well. I will be doing the garage floor in the future.

That’s not what we like to hear! Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield 2.5 Garage Floor Coating Kit has recommended coverage up to 450 – 500 square feet. Coverage is heavily dependent on the porosity and age of the concrete. More porous concrete will absorb more of the coating when being applied, which will reduce coverage. You also want to ensure the coating is being applied at the recommended mil thickness, applying the coating heavier will reduce the recommended coverage.
