Well worth the money it helped out with the installation

This tread template worked great not just for the treads but for the risers as well. Super easy to use. You do need to cut or use a strip of wood because this kit just has the olastic end pieces. Reason for a 4 star and not a 5 is that the description states to use a 3 inch piece of wood bit that wobt fit. I had to cut a 2” wide piece. Do reccomend

a little flimsy because its plastic but if not use everyday its fine. it adjusts fine to kick boards for layout of the treads. I can see it for the risers as well if not painting them and using a stain and not caulk if needed.

This is an inexpensive alternative to accurately measure stair treads. Results are almost perfect. We had almost a one inch difference between our top step and the bottom in our 73 year-old house!

Great tool, can't imagine the time and mistakes we saved by using this tool. It is made of plastic and comes with the warning to hand tighten only, if you over tighten it will crack!

Made my cuts on the retrotreads that I installed the closest I've ever done. A few gaps, but nothing like past installs. No need for trim or quarter round on the ends to hide the gaps.

It worked well for my stair project. Certainly for the price it can't be beat. Other similar products that are ready to go cost 2-3 times more.

While reading on websites about installing stair treads and risers, I noticed several references to a "tread template". This was my first stair tread/riser installation - replacing the carpeted stairs with red oak. It would have been next to impossible without this tool to get the treads and risers cut correctly. NEVER assume the sides of a stairway are plumb/straight/parallel! (they are NOT.) This tool is simple to use, very inexpensive (other sites sell this for 2x or more HD's price), and gets the job done - correctly and professionally. Suggestion: don't even TRY to get your cuts correct without this tool.

Made the job of laying flooring on stairs much easier and more accurate! If this wasn’t already a product I would have to invent it - saved hours of time on the install.

Did the job! Made installing vinyl plank stair risers and treads much easier and accurate. No need to measure to get an exact fit!

These are okay. The plastic edges were not perfectly straight, possible a bit warped. If I had to do it again, would invest in a metal option for a true straight edge.

These tread templates make the job so much easier and way more accurate than trying to measure with a tape. Also once the length is set you may find you can use them for multiple steps without stopping to re-adjust. At $30 they aren't too expensive and they'll last a long time if you take care of them. Overall construction seems robust and thumb screws are easy to loosen/tighten.

the edge of the templates were not straight. and the templates were warped. It made marking tread and risers challenging.

Really handy tool. Seems like stairs are never completely square so this is an easy way to measure angles for treads, risers and trim. Worth it!

If your doing stair treads it’s the best and easiest way to make them look professional

This was horrible. Very cheaply made. It never gets a tight enough fit before the screws strip out. Then you have to be SUPER careful taking it to tread to mark your cut. We got the stairs done but it was a pain. Could’ve saved a lot more time and frustration if this was made better.

If I knew I had to do a couple sets of stairs, I would not buy these. They're cheap plastic and you need to be careful not to strip the wing nuts. They don't feel like they get tight enough before the nuts strip out, but if you're careful they get tight enough to work. You also would need to make sure you have a safe place to store them because they will get bent or broken if not stored nicely. If you plan on using them more than once I'd recommend getting something higher quality.
