This is a beautiful toilet that I installed solo in a tiny bathroom without any major issues. While awaiting the toilet and contemplating the install, I read all of the bad reviews here and got a bit worried that I was in over my head and the quality of this toilet may be poor, but all turned out well in the end. It's so good looking that I'm here drinking my second cup of coffee, after having just used it, leaving a review. Arrived very well packaged and without any damage. I inspected it very closely for any damage or imperfections. This included laying it on its side and checking the underneath. It appears that SM has made some updates in the last few years, including making the access holes larger. They're still small, but manageable. To install this, I first traced the outline of the toilet base and bolt holes on cardboard and cut it out. I took this to the bathroom, aligned with my flange, and verified that it would fit in place. Importantly, it cleared my water supply line coming out from the wall. In prep for the install, I replaced a longer threaded nipple and valve coming out of the wall with a 2.5" nipple and shorter 1/4-turn valve. This extends 3" out of the wall, leaving enough clearance for the back of the toilet. Warning: the toilet is both wide and sits close to the wall, so there's a good chance of interference with your water supply line. Look at the detailed dimensions in the specifications PDF here to get an idea of whether you may run into clearance issues. An alternative, similar-looking, but skinnier and deeper back toilet is the Swiss Madison Ivy. You may want to look into that if you have clearance concerns. Once the fit was verified, I used painters tape to mark the toilet outline (using the cardboard cutout) on the floor. I was hoping this would make alignment and install a breeze, and it certainly helped, but after two attempts, I was hitting and pushing over the flange bolts when lowering. Back to the drawing board, I stacked three 1-by scraps on the back and front of toilet and set it down on it. This allowed me to very carefully align the flange bolts and remove I piece of scrap wood at a time to make sure the bolts went through the holes. This took some patience, but it worked just fine. I had to use a small mirror to see the far side bolt. Once fully lowered, I hand tightened the nuts and then used an offset 11 mm wrench to further tighten. I used a Fluidmaster "better than wax" rubber flange seal. For me, this was critical and the install wouldn't have been possible without given it took me three "plops" to get the toilet bolts aligned. Seat install was easy, but did take some trial/error rotation of the brackets to make the seat sit flush with the front of the toilet. Only complaint with the whole process is that a single washer was missing from one of the brackets. The access ports for the bolts were just large enough for me to contort my hands and offset wrench to tighten the bolts. The covers snapped into place no problem. No leaks, no issues, and the toilet looks *chefs kiss* great. The "vortex" flush is nice and swirls around the bowl nicely. I imagine some larger deuces could "hit dry land" and would require cleaning after use, but this is true of most/all new water efficient toilets. My flange and floor were not level, so I did have to shim the front of my toilet. You can see that in my photo. This is temporary and will later be shimmed with plastic shims and concealed with caulk. To conclude, if you're worried about install, don't be. Just bring some patience and flexibility and you'll get it. This is a heavy toilet (I only weigh about 40 lbs more than it!), but was able to lift and install solo by holding one of the access ports and behind the tank. With two people, it'd be even easier to maneuver into place.

This is undeniably a beautiful toilet, like you can see from my picture and from other reviews. It has clean lines and is very easy to clean. I am overall satisfied. My only nit pick is on the bowl design - the internal curve of the bowl is designed in a way that makes it slightly more prone to splash compared with other toilets.

A real pain to install, trying to get flange bolts that you can't see, to align with toilet mounting holes. Then I found that the toilet seat bolt covers are brushed nickel and the flush buttons are chrome. I contacted Swiss Madison and they replied - "All of the toilets come with one brushed nickel and the other one chrome. Unfortunately, we can not change that. We apologize for the inconvenience." I was very disappointed with this answer and wouldn't buy another Swiss Madison toilet.

Im happy with the purchase. It looks modern and does the job as expected. I installed it myself and it was easy for me. I’m not a plumber but an experienced construction worker. Do not forget to do flush adjustments after the installation (go on youtube and search for “swiss madison toilet flush adjustment”). Do not forget to tighten flush button and lid cover screws because if you don’t they will get destroyed and non functional very soon. Nothing should be flimsy, same when you buy a bicycle. Tips for installation: 1. Attach the toilet hose to the toilet before placing it on the bolts. 2. Do not put sealant on the base before placing it on the bolts. Use it for a day and see if the toilet doesn’t leak. If everything is good, apply a white exterior caulking around the base. Use a soapy water for caulking finish. I used Quad snow white caulking.

I bought two of these for my home renovation. Unfortunately the renovation took a very long time so I had these delivery and sitting in the garage for months before they were finally installed. Not even two week later I discovered a long horizontal crack inside the bowl of one in the master bathroom. This is a bowl that I inspected thoroughly before it was installed and had cleaned a few times. Now I have to spend money to get a new toilet and pay to have it installed. The design allows for urine to get inside the lid every use and if the water pressure is normal the bowl doesn't get clean with one flush.

We purchased several of these for our condo project, which had “Pullman style” bathrooms to maximize small space. These toilets were perfect and I’m now ordering them for my own home. Bonus that they are easy to clean!

The toilet tank cover is not flushed with the toilet. Also, it’s not completely painted. You can see the unpainted finishes around the ceramic lid. Love the toliet.. disappointed about the finish. For the price.. I expected a better finish/quality.

It’s good to put inside the small bathroom

It’s a great looking toilet, BUT it does NOT flush at all. We just updated our bathroom and had the toilet professionally installed and adjusted and still it does not work. I would not recommend this product, it’s a waste of money.

Awesome toilet looks great easy to clean Need a little bit patience to attach Johnny bolts takes a little time I think they have to invent a tool for screwing down the bolts then it would make it much much easier

I want to love this toilet so much but is just hard. This toilet fits wonderfully in my bathroom, is very small but yet very comfortable. Flushes nice and doesn’t clogs that often. The easy of clean is priceless. The sleek modern clean lines amazing. But the freaking water level is just ridiculous, I can’t …… The water inside the toilet bowl is so low that anything other than liquids will land on dry land and stay there no matter how much you flush. The toilet bowl is always stain and dirty. In order to use we press the flush just a little to let water flow to the toilet and fill the bowl, then proceed to drop your package and then flush. When you forget the process or you are in a hurry, we’ll…… good luck cleaning that.

I puchased 5 toilets to update for my 30 years old house. It is beautiful as it looks just like a hotel bathroom. I have a plumber installed and only complain he had was that he has to put his big hands in a small hole on the side bottom of the toilet. Other than that, I am very happy how it turned out in our new bathrooms.

A lot of folks say they cant tell if the two different flush options make a difference on water use. All it takes is recording the two flushes with audio or video and you can tell the different. Contractor installed this for me. Love the toilet. Modern look. No issues so far

I had wanted a one piece to cut down on areas where cleaning would be a hassle given all the teenagers in my home. This toilet superceded my expectations and I was completed surprised at its beauty and function. You definitely need 2 people to move it around (I know, I tried myself). It can be tricky getting your hand inside to bolt it down so just make sure your helper has a smaller hand than you. The soft close lid are especially great.

We were excited to update our bathroom and replace our old toilet with this more modern new one. Although we are mostly happy with this item, the biggest flaw is that’s the tank lid is not a good fit, there’s quite a large gap at the front of the lid. It’s very obvious and detracts from the overall look. Unfortunately it was completely installed before we saw this issue, so we’re stuck with it. If I could go back, I’d buy a different toilet.

Very modern, great quality and my bathroom looks more like a European style

Some people complain that its hard to install well im a 20+ year maintenance man it took me and the wife only 45 min in total to replace and install and it works perfect i love it plus it only uses 1.2 gallons of water for solids and paper to flush away

One year ago today we celebrated Christmas by installing our new Swiss Madison St. Tropez toilet. The memories! It's outside the scope of this review to mention how we celebrated its first birthday. This toilet has performed perfectly from the very first flush. There is no challenge too great for our Swiss Madison. Without going into too much detail... We're two guys who love to cook and eat, and there are times you want to know that *certain things* will go away without any fuss and never be seen again. This toilet doesn't disappoint. We have never *ever* needed to flush twice, ever. We love the sleek design, without the ugly, clinical gooseneck visible on the sides of most toilets. Who needs to know the actual path things take after we push the "big flush" button? No kidding, we've even tried disposing of large jobs using the "little flush," and this toilet is still all over it! Mission accomplished! The quick-detach seat feels so grown-up. Easy cleaning! In fact, this toilet doesn't seem to need the frequent bowl cleaning most other toilets require. The sitting height happens to be just right for two average-height men. We recommend this toilet to anyone who will listen, and they probably think we're weird. I think we would have paid twice the price for it, if we'd known in advance it was this great.

The package was perfect and there is no damage. I like the modern design feature. After I used one month after install, there are a few things I can address. 1. hard to install because of small hole. No adult hand can reach the bolt. My little boy help me. 2. the white color is not consist, bottom of 1/3 is little yellowish. 3. Water level on the bowl is too low, so your poop is always hit the surface and remain after flush which means you need clean almost every day. if you don't worry about installation too much and lightly use, I recommend this product.

I bought this toilet because I loved the way it looked, and that it would be easier to clean. I can no longer get on my hands and knees to clean, and this one can be wiped down from standing. However, I thought toilets were either standard height, or the new slightly taller height that is popular for aging people. This one is SHORT! It is sized like it should be in a motor home with a tiny bathroom. Since we had it installed by a contractor, it was already in before I saw it. I would have never bought one this height. We are so disappointed, but we're stuck with it. It looks just like the picture, so I gave it 3 stars. I still like the design, but it should be taller.

Clean modern style, but some noticeable imperfections. Finish is a consistent, attractive glossy white, but geometrical symmetry is poor. The rear cistern panel is not perfectly perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the bowl, which means that you can have it at an equi-distance from the wall, or have the bowl axis perpendicular to the wall, but not both. The molding of the one piece ceramic is flawed by an approximate 1-2 degree error. Also the curvature of the cistern lid does not match that of the cistern front flange - this is highlighted when assembled as another cosmetic flaw in the moldings. Lastly the plastic soft-close seat is of lower quality, and is a poor match for the geometry of the toilet. Other that these mostly visual flaws, it functions well with no flush splashing that I have seen mentioned in other reviews. It is heavier than the average toilet, which makes installation a little more difficult than normal, but that's a one time struggle which is soon forgotten. Overall, a clean modern design, which is slightly let down by manufacturing flaws.

You would think that if you spend close to $300 on a toilet, you're getting the ultimate "throne of porcelain thrones". Unfortunately that is not the case with this toilet. We installed 1 in each bathroom less than 1 month ago. During the last month, they have both clogged at least 5 times each. In the past 5 years since we bought our house, our old toilets clogged *maybe* 1 time each. Before anyone asks: YES, we are using the correct flush buttons, depending on what type of waste is being flushed and nothing has gotten flushed that shouldn't be flushed-no wipes, no feminine products, etc. If it were possible for me to return them, I would. Don't waste your money. I'm including a picture of our current situation.

I bought this toilet for my daughter’s newly renovated bathroom. She loves it. It is well designed and fits perfectly in a small bathroom.

great toilet, quiet close, sleek and modern looking I like the 2 flush options I just wish it had more water in it...

My wife was so pleased with this toilet that she insisted that I replace the toilet upstairs with the same unit. My young daughter would only use the new toilet downstairs until I installed the new one upstairs. The design is great and it changes the way the bathroom looks. I was able to do a one man install (not recommended) so it can be done. I only wished that I had ordered them at the same time!

The metal portion of this toilet (the part that attaches the plastic seat to the actual toilet) completely rusted after less than a month of installation. We bought three of these toilets. Now I’m trying to figure out how to contact the manufacturer to send me those round metal pieces. Yay! More work for me!

Great toilet, but loud flushing.

Sleek looking product and high quality craftmanship

If you install this next to a wall, getting the bolts on the hold down pegs is quite challenging. No matter how much you struggle though, it will be worth it. This item is expensive compared to other normal toilets, don't worry its worth it. This product is amazing, it uses very little water and flushes 10 times better than my old toilet that used somewhere between double or triple the water. It's beautiful (never thought I'd say that about a toilet) and it transformed my bathroom. I simply can't recommend this product enough, it's truly great.
