This roller did work as promised providing the person uses uniform drywall mud (slow drying!) and an even pressure with no sliding. It is MUCH more dramatic than would be suggested by the design. Too bad I can't include a picture.

Be careful, the black from the roller will come off when you first start to use it, just a little bit at first. if you can get it to work its great, but it's very hard to get a consistent pattern, if you get the 'mud' or paint on too thick the roller just skids and it's hard to get the pattern even.

You will need two rollers. The first is a regular either a 1/2-3/4 inch nap roller and spread out enough to do a small area (one or two full rows from the corner)... or you can trowel it on and then secondly your texture roller. I actually preferred the trowel. It was more up and down on the ladder but it was easier to control how much spackle makes it to the ceiling, and the thickness throughout the ceiling. Since your look is based on uniformity it was easier for me and less work on my shoulders. Thin your spackle by adding water and mixing until it's a little thinner than peanut butter. You can get a mixer in the drywall department to put on the end of a cordless drill... for like 6 bucks. Use a tarp it's a little messy. If you like a smoother more defined look, trowel it flat and then roll in the texture. If you need to cover more flaws and want a slightly less defined look, use the roller followed by the texture roller. Start in the corner against the first wall of your choice, roll in one direction to the other wall. Over lap your rows by about a 1/2 inch with the texture roller. If you make a mistake roll it again with the thick nap roller or quickly trowel and then use the texture roller again. It's super forgiving if it's wet, don't try to do a large area, because the spackle will dry. Adding water to the spackle makes it seem like it will be wet forever, but it evaporates A LOT quicker than you would imagine. After you do a couple rows you will get a rhythm and it will go well. If you start to losing your texture you're starting to put it on to thinly.... stop add some more and re-texture so it matches. It took me a minute to notice some thin spots now I need to go back and touch up... but it was my first time. (So I wrote this to save other 1st timers some headaches. lol It's a easy project if you know what to expect and it's a really nice project when completed, looks great! This roller almost resembles fireworks or palm trees when it is finished. It's a lovely design.
