This portable air conditioner is very well made and attractive. I was very pleased with the fit and finish when I removed it from the package, Toshiba did a great job with their design and quality of finishes. It is on wheels and it moves very smoothly on hardwood floors. Everything is included in the box and all of the parts are well made and packed so that they won't be damaged in transit. The remote is easy to figure out and use and batteries for the remote are included. We placed it in the master bedroom to cool it off on warm evenings (the room is 308 square feet) it cools it off very well and is pretty quiet :).

Just what we needed to cool our large bedroom. Although our house has a new central air unit I guess the design of system was poor resulting in our bedroom always feeling hot. The bedroom is large (15'x20') and this 10,000 btu unit cools entire room quickly and maintains a nice temp with thermostat. The unit is a little loud after initial burst of cool and then settles into a nice enjoyable white noise.Top vent automatically cycles to full open and then down to help circulate cool air.Remote is user friendly and offers all needed options. Install was easy and comes with everything needed to vent hose in most windows. We have used 4 nights so far and have not had to empty collection tank but seems fairly simple. My plan is to just roll unit shower stall and drain it with supplied hose. Worthwhile investment.

Toshiba's 8,000 BTU (6000 BTU, DOE) Potable Air Conditioner is Perfect for our needs. Very Powerful Fan for Cooling even with out having the air on. Fully Automatic with a Remote Control to adjust as needed. The Dehumidifier is a Real Bonus. The Specs claim it will Cool 250 sq. ft. but I believe it would be closer to at least 400-500 sq. ft. Super Quiet and Stylish.

Great for keeping our servers cool - easy install! I use this to augment the building's A/C in our small business. On weekends, the building we rent cuts back our A/C to about 90 degrees F, which is too much of a change for our servers. This Toshiba unit, along with 2 others, does a great job keeping the room at a nice, cool, consistent 72 degrees F. We routed the vent hose up to our drop-ceiling, which is an open air-return system -- that means that all return air in the building just goes free-flow through the ceiling, so it's perfect for dumping the hot exhaust from this Toshiba A/C. In addition, the hot exhaust carries with it the humidity it has wrung out of the air. Here's the best part: this unit resumes its cooling if there's a loss of power. Other units I have tried just stay off after a power failure and restore. Fancier server room chillers sell from 3-5 times this price, so I am a happy customer!

I live in a one and a half story house. Even though we have central air, by design, these houses have poor ventilation to the upstairs. So to counter that, we run auxiliary air conditioners in the upstairs bedrooms to cool it down during the warm months. We recently installed new replacement windows in our house and did not want to put in window units for fear of damaging the new windows. A portable air conditioner like this one is a good solution for us since the only thing that goes in the window is the plastic vent. What I liked about this particular unit is that it operated quietly. The fan thing moves up and down while it is on which helps distribute the air evenly throughout the room. It was easy to set up. What I didn’t like about it, is I didn’t think the exhaust vent sat in the window very well, even with the included weather stripping, so I ended up putting some white duct tape around it to seal it better. I’ve found that’s pretty common among portable air conditioners and not anything unique to this one. So don’t let that deter you from this one. It works as well as any I have ever used.

I am sure it will work as a humidifier if used in a basement because the instructions say you must have a floor drain to drain to since there is no external bucket to catch the water or roll the thing to a drain whenever it needs to be drained out. And most basements below grade do not need an air conditioner. I needed this for a condo and the exhaust vent would have to be custom made to fit a sliding balcony door since the included window piece does not expand to the length needed and they do not make an accessory for this. Also if you need to drain to a sink you would need the unit that has the internal pump which this unit does not have and since the units drain requires you to roll to a floor drain to empty and again if you are using where there is no floor drain like upstairs you will need the unit with the internal pump unless you are going to use on a sliding balcony door and run the hose outside through a hole that would need to be drilled through what ever is used as a window or door filler. So I would just recommend the unit with the internal pump and forgo all the trouble this unit has with draining. I also was the recipient of a shipper that managed to beat up the box so I do not expect this unit to last very long, and since I received the unit for free I will keep it but if I had payed for it and the box was in this condition I would have returned it.

Shuts off, no code shown?
Worked fine in last summers heat wave, but this year, it keeps shutting down, whether it runs for 1hr or 5hrs straight, you never know when it’ll quit? (And yes its well maintained and correctly set up, it worked flawlessly last summer) It shows no codes, just all lights and the display blinks? Greatly dissappointed in a time of need.

$380 to cool living room 2.5 months last year
Rolled the unit down the hall from the back storage closet, plugged it in, cleaned the filters, and getting luke cool slightly moist air pushed around. Last year it cooled great. So much so we had to turn the unit off occasionally. And of course this is one month past the one year mark for warranty. I will not spend money on Toshiba products anymore. Do not waste your money.

            Would buy again
I live is south central Colorado, a semi arid ( very low humidity) region. Most years we just used the swamp cooler but during monsoon season and 2021 where the humidity has been well above the average 15٪ it has come in very handy. This year I have used it everyday since June and it works well in our 1000sq ft home. With fans also running it keeps our house liveable.

                Total waste of money
I'm so bummed. Was so looking forward to having what I thought would be a quality AC UNIT. unfortunately, I turned it on and within 20 minutes, I had a P1 code. How can a brand new, unused unit need to be drained after 20 minutes of TSU first ever use? The manual is absolutely no help. I don't wanna return this uni but, what choice do I have? Especially when you consider how much I spent. Very very disappointed.

                  Short term review
I've owned many Toshiba products over the years and always found them to be reliable and technology sound. I purchased the unit for my home office since my current airflow is limited. First impression, bulky, heavy, and definitely noisier than anticipated. Seems to cool well, so works as intended. Installation wasn't as easy as made out to be. To be fair, I will provide a more in-depth review after summer and see how it performs.

                    So Disappointed in Toshiba
I bought this product because my husband always believed that Toshiba stood for quality. I've had it about 2 weeks, but only needed to use it for 5 days and it's leaking water like a sieve. Unfortunately I don't have the receipt. But the other problem is that it's too heavy for me to get it back into the car to return it.

                      AWESOME Machine
I love my AC unit, easy to use, easy enough that my 83 yr old father can operate it. Being in a high humidity climate, it has a large reservoir for water, and it is light enough to pick up to carry over the step to drain it outside.

I wouldn't recommend this product. Error code prevents using
I bought this unit last summer because of ease of moving it. I can't lift window units anymore. I only used it a few hours last summer. When I set it up this year, it give the P1 error. I attempted to empty the water, but there really wasn't any. Restarted the unit, and it ran for a few minutes then gave the error again. What a waste of my money, and now I sit in the heat.

                            Bad Product - PR1
Worked great Last year around this time when I bought it for the summer! I drained it and put it away in a safe place. This year PR1 Left and Right I have to drain it every 30 minutes and so (as it did not come with a drainage hose - I had to improvise on the draining last year), leaks from somewhere. Now I have to put is on a small hand cart so I can drain it faster!! My husband has health issues and we need it working for more than30 minutes at a time. Feeling very unsatisfied with my purchase. Also I looked online for some way to contact you or even get replacement parts, I had to look at my manual more than once to find this web address!!

                              I. Am. Freezing.
Many older Seattle homes, including mine, don't have central air -- until recent years the temperature rarely even got to 85°F (Florida people are laughing). Now we get much higher summer temps and every predicted heat waves causes a run on window or portable air conditioners. It's almost 100 degrees and this was the only AC unit I could find anywhere. My expectations were low -- not enough BTUs for the space, negative reviews -- but it was better than moving into my van. I had to vent it through an awning window and put it on a table for the exhaust hose to reach (c'mon Toshiba, you couldn't make it two feet longer?), it's not exactly unobtrusive, but ohhhhh it's wonderful! It cooled the living room within minutes; it's set to 74°F now and I'm under a blanket on the couch, grinning. The living room is about 300 square feet, the kitchen next to it is about the same and there's no door between them, and the house is basically a basket with air leaks everywhere, so this one 8,000 BTU unit is working pretty hard. It's succeeding, though -- the living room is an icebox, the kitchen is better than tolerable, it's been running for 20 hours and I haven't had to drain it -- this may have been my only choice when I got it but it's a fantastic unit and I would absolutely choose it over everything else now that I've used it.

Needs to be drained continuously to work
Like many others, I bought this product last year and it worked fine for the season. When I needed it recently for a heat wave it ran for 45 minutes and needed to be drained because the water tray was full. In 45 minutes it had collected more water than in a whole season. This has repeated every time I've turned it on. Last night it was on for 20 minutes before we got the error. Essentially, if you can't continuously drain the unit it's unusable. Clearly this is a known issue (read every review) but Toshiba is not proactively reaching out to owners who have registered these devices with a fix or a solution. Stay away from this product.

Hello Jerry4kool. Thank you for reviewing the Toshiba 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner RAC-PD0812CRRU. We are sorry that your new AC is not cooling your space as you would like, and we can help. Check that the exhaust hose is installed correctly through the window and that doors, vents, and windows are closed. If this is the first AC used in that space this year, give it a few more days to equalize as it decreases the Relative Humidity. During this time, increase the temperature to warmer than the coldest setting. A newly-installed unit first removes ambient moisture from walls, ceiling, and fabrics. Also be sure to set up the Continuous Drain. For additional troubleshooting, reach us at ToshibaCustomerCare@hartehanks.com and reference case number 111291326. Have a great day! Not efficient at all!!!
This takes cool air out of the room from the floor area and draws hot air (unconditioned) in from outside the room under the door. I bought over size for my room size but it hardly shuts off. Has an exhaust hose that puts off heat in the room on its way out the window. A regular window unit is much more efficient because they do not pull in unconfirmed air from other rooms. Will never buy another.

                                          Nothing but trouble
We bought this unit last year and it was great for the first month or so. Then it started beeping and throwing the P1 code ALL the time. We would drain it and it would return to normal. About 10 minutes would go but and here comes the P1 code again. The only way we can keep it from showing that code is if we have the bottom drain plug out and let the water drain continuously while it runs. We've talked to customer service about how to fix it and can't get any real suggestions. I wish I it's weren't so pricey otherwise I'd just go get a new one and throw this one in the trash!

                                              P1 Error
Purchased less than a year ago and it has been stored properly since October of last year. Now, I install it and every couple of hours I have the P1 error. This error never occurred last year for the whole season.
