I used this stain to bring an old desk back to life. The desk was machine sanded then beautifully stained using this product. Dried quickly as described. I then hand sanded all the drawer fronts and applied a removable peacock wallpaper to give it a nice contrast.Also cleaned and painted all hardware with gold foil and added gold corners to the desktop for a bit of a baroque feel. I just love it!

Used this on our red oak stair treads and the result was awesome! Love, love, the color!

Did tounge and groove ceiling under our new deck and decided to go with white pine. Tested 15 stains and colonial maple premium came on top, I had an old bottle from long time ago and ordered new and it had improved the color and also did not need to use wood conditioner and came out perfect no blotchy spots, I stained and coated bothsides with Helmsman Oil Based Spar Urethane in Satin finish and it came out gorgeous!

This stain color was the closest color we could get to match the rest of our mid century furniture. We are so pleased.

I have used 3 quarts of the weathered gray stain for all of my cabinets, from dining room built ins, kitchen, bath vanity, to fireplace mantle. It comes out a deep gray, a little darker than i wanted, so i wait a couple of hours and cut it back with golden pecan. It leaves a warm oak look, with the open grains showing the dark tones. It does have a strong odor, so working in the shop or garage (or outdoors-weather permitting) is desred.

I was looking for a black -ish semi-transparent stain that would be solid consistent color but allow the texture of the wood to be visible. This was the only one I could find and it coated perfectly and completely in just one coat. Works great and finishes very well.

Good wood stain fast dry

This stain on cedar planks adds a rich natural finish to my cabinets.

I have been using these for so many years and I love the quality. I have been always happy with the quality however i will say in no way does this ever dry before 6 -12 hours. Sometimes if its humid it will take way more time. No matter what it is worth the wait.

This is my new favorite brown stain. Has a good grey undertone. I love the premium stains. They go on smooth and easy and are a bit thicker. I have not been disappointed yet.

This product is incredible. I've used it to refinish an old table and an antique rocking chair. Both projects turned out great. The Varathane goes on easily and covers well. For large blemishes and wood filler multiple coats are necessary for best coverage. I like Varathane much more than the Minwax varnish stain.

Gave us just the look we were looking for. Had pretty good coverage. 10×8 wall got two coats with a little bit left over

Needed a small amount of black stain and this was perfect. Covered very well.

I chose Traditional Cherry and it is MUCH darker and brighter than the label shows. I've used it on several projects now and it produces a vibrant finish after covering it with a little poly. It's easy to use and covers nicely. I have found it advisable to use a sealer first. I've been using a homemade black tea wash and I think the results are spectacular.

I bought this because of a Pinterest post about stable and this is he stain they used. I couldn’t find it anywhere local so I was forced to order it. I only had a choice o buy two quarts at a time, so I did. I applied the stain and it looked nothing liked the pictures from the table on Pinterest. So what did I do, I improvised and put two coats of the honey maple and then did one light stain of carrington (dark stain) and wiped it off immediately & got an awesome color! I just used it on some stills and came out beautiful! Thanks

Love the color! Took me a while to match a trim with this color but this color is amazing after I brushed some poly on it!

Product looks great easy to apply and I’m glad I bought Tolbert two pack because I had to crack into the second on the last few boards. If you know you are going to use both cans I suggest combining them in a clean container for a uniform color. I didn’t see a difference in the two cans but others have complained about a color difference.

We had some wood paneling that had dried out. We were going to just paint it white. We bought this on a whim and the results were outstanding. We wiped the wall with a damp rag and applied the stain with a foam brush. Looks brand new!

I used it on common pine boards to trim out a garage conversion I am working on. Love the way it pulls the grain and knots out. Looks great!

Easy to apply and produced a nice warm tone to the plywood cabinets i am building ( see images)

I used this on sanded wood floors. I used a throw away brush to put on, let sit a couple minutes then wiped off excess with a soft rag. The sanded floors really soaked it up so I figured out to not wipe too much off. The picture is one coat and no finish coat yet.

Easy to use, color is beautiful. A little goes a long way. We are very happy with this product.

Never used any type of wood stain, wanted to go for a more modern look. Stained a Home Depot Birchwood “74” countertop. Applied Varathane Premium Wood Stain in BRIARSMOKE. Pictures doesn’t show the finish coat (polyurethane)

The color is so nice. Application was easy, one coat. Smooth. Will be using again!!

Easy to use. I tried a brush first but after reading the reviews went out and purchased a sponge. What a difference. The sponge cut my paint time in half and made the paint less drippy. I used Antique White first, then the Vintage Aqua on top of that. After sanding the edges to give it an "old, worn look" I finished with Varathane Wax.

I used this briarsmoke “stain” on a DIY day bed made from douglas fir. I applied a bit to the bottom to test it out, but upon opening, I immediately was confused why this brownish-gray wood stain just looked like a can of gray paint. I stupidly covered my entire bed in this stain, only a thin layer, thinking it would appear the way it is supposed to when it dried. NOPE. I just completely ruined this entire project.

This is paint. I think we all know what stain is, but these guys want to say it's a "wiping stain." In other words it is paint that you wipe back off. Goes on thick and gooey like a heavy paint. And wiping it back off is a big extra mess. Get a stain. You know what stain is.

Well...ruined 6 pieces of wood with this garbage. In the store they show it on pine, which is what i have, and it was no where near as bright red as it turned out. Thanks Varathane for giving me a bunch more work to do sanding it all back down and doing the shelves all over again. Never buying this product again...ever.
